Hence when the discuss turned to why these new platforms were or were not directors and how they were something more, it reminded me of where we were in the industry about seven years ago when the director vs. switch debates raged. So with that in mind, when I was asked as to what I thought a director was vs. a switch, my answer is this:

After heated meetings and many warnings to clean up the community group's problems, the director was finally fired. While cleaning out his office, he met his eager new successor. "There are three sealed and numbered letters in the top drawer of this desk," he told the new director. "I left them there as my parting advice to you.
