Build Prosperity and Strong Relationships With L.O.V.E
| |
| I had the honour recently of interviewing Evelyn Tian. Evelyn is a Singaporean woman living in Australia. She shared a story that started with volunteering to pack and send envelopes for the 2000 Olympics Committee here in Australia 10 years ago. That simple act of giving lead to an amazing trail of events that lead to her becoming the African Attache for the Olympics and Para-Olympics. This started Evelyn on an incredible journey to Africa for 6 months where she worked with disabled women and children, introducing wheelchair sports and fund raising for home made wheelchairs. She is now working toward helping disabled orphans in Africa. |

7.3.4 Labour market reform: Mainstreaming skills development for the poor
| |
| Training for the poor must also be part of a coherent set of active labour market policies. Without concerted government interventions to eliminate key impediments that prevent women, disabled persons and other discriminated groups from gaining equitable access to formal sector jobs, efforts to equalise training entitlements will ultimately fail. |

Old Mutual and South Africa’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Launch $12.9m Microfinance Initiative, Isivande Women’s Fund (IWF)
| |
| The Department of Trade and Industry of South Africa has teamed with Old Mutual Group’s Masisizane Fund to launch the Isivande Women’s Fund (IWF), financing women-run enterprises in the country. The new fund is the result of a 2006 study conducted by the DTI’s Gender and Women Empowerment Unit, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and FinMark. The study found that although women are more responsible managers of credit than men, they only receive 30 percent of loans, with black women receiving the least funding. |

Women and Men are Different: Financially Speaking
| |
| Men and women think differently, especially about money. Although both men and women are concerned about security; many women think about what money represents, where men tend to think of what money can buy. There is no right or wrong, we just think differently. Money has no gender, anyone, man or woman can earn, spend, save or invest it. The results of a survey of 1,000 spouses conducted for Money Magazine, found men and women had dramatically different ideas about who does what with the family finances and what is important to their partners. 27% of men believe their wives think having the right investments is very important. Yet nearly half of the women surveyed say it is important. 45% of men say that having cash for emergencies is very important to their spouse, when in reality 67% of women believe it's crucial.

Funke Adenodi Akinbuli Helps Disabled in Africa Live With Dignity & Respect
| |
| If you didn't already know, most of Africa’s disabled [including the blind, paraplegic etc.] citizens live in deplorable conditions. Most are unemployed and can be found on Africa’s major streets and highways placing themselves in harm’s way as they beg for money to meet their basic needs. Rarely will you find a paraplegic in Africa, for example, with necessary medical equipment i.e. wheelchair. Most navigate the streets and freeways on their hands. Sadly, a lot of Africa’s citizens have become desensitized to the deplorable conditions of the disabled partly because most are frustrated with economic and political conditions in the continent and are barely trying to keep heads above water. Others just have no idea where to begin helping and still most lack awareness of the plight of the disabled.

Women Entrepreneurs Setting the Pace
| |
|
Women today, have a much more entrepreneurial, gutsy spirit, than they did 40-50 years ago. | Most managers would prefer job applicants who are not physically challenged because of the assumption that they are more productive. But sometimes they fail to take into consideration the full competence of those they ignore simply because they are disabled.
