Why Participate in Social Networking?
| |
| It’s kind of funny, but it took me quite a while to begin actually marketing on social networking sites. I’ve been on LinkedIn for probably five years, MySpace for maybe a year, and several others (Ning, Ryze, Eons, probably more I’m forgetting). But it was only when I joined Facebook in October 2007, and then shortly thereafter found my way to Plaxo and CollectiveX that I finally started using them to really do some business. |

Celebrity Branding You! – Typing Your Way to Fame!
| |
| Over the last few years, there is no denying that the online community has started harnessing the power of the Internet for more than just “surfing” the web to look for information. We have now started using it as a networking tool that allows us to connect with others to share ideas, opinions and videos of ourselves looking like fools. Okay, so hopefully we don’t have too many of those videos; but having some video online, and at the major video sharing sites, is a great search engine traffic strategy that we should all be employing |

Are we all just OVERwhelmed?
| |
| How much time do we really have to spend writing comments, posting on Facebook, and engaging online in discussion groups? When we're busy, this is an area that can end up as not much more than a distraction. However, it's an important part of our marketing and being selective is one way to help ourselves to do this well, and avoid overwhelm.
Do you pick and choose carefully how much online time you devote to your marketing and who you'll read, share with, comment on? Or do you default to all or nothing with great regularity? |

Communications Tips
| |
| "The Greatest problem in communication is the illusion that it has been accomplished."
George Bernard Shaw
The great quote by George Bernard Shaw confirms what I have experienced in my 35 plus year career. And in my past 23 years in my own business, I cannot think of a single instance where "communication" was not listed as a problem, challenge, frustration, irritant, etc. in the focus groups, discussion groups and other strategic planning endeavors I have conducted. Communication is a challenge. And it is an opportunity for very positive impressions if one works at doing it effectively. |

Entrepreneurs and small business owners need to take ownership of worklife balance discussion
| |
| The mantra of the late 90’s and the first decade of the 21st century is “Be proactive.” And corporations are doing a fine job of being proactive in claiming ownership of the “work-life” discussion.
They’re doing this because when they launch the discussion first, they get to define the parameters—they get to make the rules.
Entrepreneurs and small business owners should not try to emulate what large corporations do. Instead, you should look towards owning your own work-life discussion.

3.1 The public sector: Training priorities, resources and reorientation
| |
| "While there is long history of poverty-focused training in developed industrial economies, it is still relatively rare in the large majority of developing countries where most of the poor live" (Malik, 1996:46). This seems particularly ironic given that most of the world's poor live in developing countries. The following discussion looks at why public sector training priorities continue to favour non-poor groups. We shall focus in particular on the design of poverty reduction programmes, overall resource availability and competing claims over training resources from other sectors and groups. |

Access to Finance: Constraints of growth-oriented enterprises
| |
| The starting point for a Focus Group Discussion was an exercise whereby the participants were asked to write down constraints they had encountered in growing or trying to grow their enterprises. These responses were printed on cards, which were placed, in clusters of similar constraints, on the wall for all to see. They became the starting point for more in-depth discussions and were used to reflect the groups' main concerns. |

Forum Marketing Secrets

| An internet forum is an online discussion site, a modern equivalent of a traditional bulletin board. People who participate in an online forum can cultivate social bonds and interest groups for a topic may form from a discussion. |

Social web vs. searchable web
| |
| Web forums have become one of the most effective outlets for communication and relationship building on the Internet. These online discussion boards have been likened to equivalent of a modern bulletin board, but are for the sole purpose of expressing opinions, advice and learning from others. Today we access online discussion forums for technical support, community and product reviews, advice on anything from career choices to fashion to schooling to illness, and general discussion about things we are interested in. People can join forum groups with others that are due to have a baby in the same month as them, or with others of the same occupation, or dog breeders that breed the same dogs as you! Where once we sought out community groups in our area, we now turn more to the online world from the comfort of our desks or couches. |

Getting Millennials to Drink the Kool-Aid
| |
| Much has been written about the four (soon to be five) generations in the workforce. Stress between these groups is often the source of significant productivity loss due to annoyance. For this discussion, I wanted to focus on the Millennials (Generation Y) who are now 16-30 years old. The communication patterns of these young people are causing ruffled feathers as they are becoming a larger force within most organizations. |

Why Most Training Fails
| |
| Most organizations use their training investments about as strategically as they deploy their office supplies spending. And the impact on customer satisfaction, cost containment or quality improvement is just as useless.
One of the biggest causes of wasted training dollars is ineffective methods. Too often, companies rely on lectures ("spray and pray"), inspirational speeches or videos, discussion groups and simulation exercises.
