Powerful Coaching Distinction: Working In Vs. Working On Your Life
| |
| Having been a professional coach for over 16 years, and having been in over a dozen coaching relationships as a client during that time, I’ve had the opportunity to examine what makes coaching so powerful and effective. It’s my personal view that one of the most beneficial tools that can enhance a client’s life is coaching distinctions. You can think of a coaching distinction like a lens through which you look at life, and in the process life shows up differently.
For example, when my mechanic, Dale, looks under the hood of my car he sees a whole different world than I do. I see mostly dirt and oil and maybe the oil dip stick and radiator cap. But because Dale has many more ‘engine distinctions’ he’s the one I’m going to call on if my car won’t start in the morning.
In short, the more distinctions we have AND USE, the more powerful... |

Adjusting To The Moment Can Be Dangerous

| Many people adjust their lives moment-to-moment rather than setting forth specific plans and sticking to them. Obstacles will always come on the way to your goals and it is up to you to stay disciplined, without fear, and maintain focus on what you want.

2011 Salary Increase Update
| |
| As we explored in Astronology last year, many organizations were projecting an optimistic 2011. The sense was that the economy would be on the mend, inflation low, and the stock market on the rise. But much has happened over the past few months which may run contrary to these hopes - from the unsettled Arab world, skyrocketing oil prices, and labor unrest in America’s heartland. |

What Attracts More - Selling or Helping?
| |
| It’s been said that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care, and it’s true. The interesting
consequence is that when you take your focus off of selling and place it on helping, you’ll attract more
clients, generate more referrals, and sell more insurance. |

Creativity is a Powerful Way of Thinking and Being
| |
| I often hear people say, "I’m not a creative person!" In truth, as humans each of us is inherently creative by virtue of being part of Nature - the essence of creativity itself.
I believe to be creative means to use what comes naturally to you with the responsibility to share that gift with the world. Uncovering your unique gift and learning how to tap into your creative energy are defining steps that allow for the release of ideas and desires that further enhance your ability to create, resulting in the potential of living a fulfilling and meaningful life. Understanding the potential of your unique creativity, and then actively and consciously creating leads to greater success in manifesting the results you want for your life. If we are all naturally creative as human beings, what holds us back?

3.0 Community action for decent work and social inclusion: Working Out of Poverty
| |
| Global and national strategies for poverty reduction should provide a
framework for local strategies to escape cycles of low incomes from work
and social exclusion. The ILO has considerable practical experience of community
actions that create more and better jobs for women and men living in
poverty and improve their chances of securing a life free from deprivation.
Much of this work is in developing countries, but these approaches have also
proved to be easily applicable in a number of transition and industrialized
market economies. |

“Third Generation Leadership” – “3G Leadership” or “Leadership v3.0”
| |
| First Generation Leadership ("G1 Leadership" or "Leadership v1.0") was typified by a command and control approach in which hierarchy ruled and the leader was "right". Second Generation Leadership ("G2 Leadership" or "Leadership v2.0") was typified by a reward for conformance / non reward or punishment for non-conformance. Again, hierarchy ruled and the leader was largely "right". Third Generation Leadership ("G3 Leadership" or "Leadership v3.0") is typified by engaging followers both with what they are doing and with the people with whom they do it. In this article Doug Long introduces both the concepts of leadership generations and shows the distinctions between them. |
