The Status Quo and Radical Ideas
| |
| What so many of us discuss about Africa is the desire to see things change. We apply the lenses that color our lives to the problem and come up with solutions that fit our world view. Challenges to that world view are hard for us to deal with, because it likely means a paradigm shift is needed in our own lives. |

Business Working with Paranoid People by Valerie Orsoni
| |
| If I say:
* Work place paranoia
* Control freakiness
* Aggressiveness
* Lack of trust
* Refusal to change
* Distorted perspective
* Intellectual rigidity
...does it ring a bell?
These are but a few symptoms of what I call “workplace paranoia”.
As we grow in our working environment we are “doomed” to one day be confronted by such paranoid people. Whether it is your boss, your partner, your employee or your assistant, their problematic behavior will inevitably impact yours. |

Using Borrowed Spectacles
| |
| You are your own expert. No one knows you like you do.To truly see your problems or concerns and to examine your life you must look through your own eyes, your own spectacles, using your own experiences, your honesty and your values. Not someone else’s.
In other words do not use borrowed spectacles. If you have ever tried this you will be aware of the distortion, almost a pain, that is experienced when looking through the lenses. Your vision is distorted and does not allow you to see the true picture or vision of what life has presented to you.

Rethinking Cognitive Skills Testing for New Hires and Promotions
| |
| Hiring managers need to make accurate assessments about the cognitive capabilities of potential new hires and those up for promotion (e.g. handling complex information, identifying priorities, and making effective decisions). A hundred years of IQ testing has, however, distorted the image of cognitive assessment to the point where it has largely gone out of favor. No single score can reflect the complex interaction of cognitive, motivational, psychological and contextual factors that impact on thinking. |

| How we experience life depends on our point of view, our attitude. And our attitude and view is colored by our lenses of past experience, judgment and so on. How differently might we experience our life if we changed our "glasses" more often? |

Getting It Wrong
| |
| So often we use familiar quotes that leave out "the next couple of lines." And the meaning is distorted beyond recognition in the process. Consider "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblins of little minds," from Ralph Waldo Emerson. The meaning is obviously that changing your mind is no sin; and that the wise among us change when circumstances change. |

Too Big To Fail: Part Of The Story
| |
| I didn't know what to expect from a network whose producers happily broadcast leftist Bill Maher's periodic rants... but I should have expected exactly what "Too Big To Fail" delivered: part of the story, with some very key ingredients left out (or distorted). That's just what you get when the progressives have overrun (and merged) the information and entertainment industries.... |
