| "I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." Douglas Adams
Let's talk about the P word. Procrastination. If this is you, this pervasive, habit effects every aspect of your life. As a procrastinator you typically under perform, limiting success and the life you want to live. It dampens your ability to take action, creates missed opportunities, and is the single pattern of behavior I see in most entrepreneurs that if corrected would free up log jams of energy and potential. If you're a procrastinator you know in your bones that this is true, yet, it seems like an impossible habit to break.

THE BRAND AS JIHAD
| |
| Some mornings she would wake up positively dying for a ciggie, and she would think she didnt have any, and shed walk angrily through the house only to find that, yes, Douglas had hidden a pack away somewhere just for this emergency. He had seen enough times her mood swing into darkness when she learned there was not a Kent for her to smoke anywhere in the house. Cigarettes, Douglas had quickly discovered, were a reliable pacifier, that major catastrophe could be averted if he made certain there was always a smoke to be had. He also quickly learned that her first two hours of the day were delicate, barometric and tentative, and that she reacted badly to any intrusions in her routine. He took to setting her a place at the table each morning, having the kettle hot, and a cup and spoon and the instant coffee out and ready for her. |

Keys to Effective Leadership in Business
| |
| Leadership is lifting a person's vision to higher sights, the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations. It is not magnetic personality, that can just as well be a glib tongue. Leadership is getting someone to do what they don't want to do, to achieve what they want to achieve. It is about making other leaders and not followers. This is not a new concept in the world of business and politics. Even John Quincy Adams stated, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." |

Business Leadership Dilemma: Can the Dark Side of Employee Behavior Be Tamed?
| |
| This year is the 50th anniversary of one of the most important books in the field of leadership practices. When Douglas McGregor asked us to look at basic beliefs about the workforce he got the conversation rolling. "The Human Side of Enterprise" is a classic, one to be on all leadership development lists. Are employees lazy and self-centered, needing strong directives and lots of watching (theory X)? Or, are they inherently meant to blossom and all they need is to be given sunshine and room to bloom and grow (theory Y)?

| Many companies that talk passionately about being market-driven and customer-focused are overlooking one crucial ingredient - the ability to listen well.
John McDonnell, chairman and chief executive of aircraft manufacturer McDonnell Douglas Corp. of St. Louis, summed up the problem: "We did not always listen to what our customers had to say before telling them what they wanted." |
