Taking Action in the Face of Disenchantment
Some colleagues and I were on a call recently with a couple of my mentors, Jay Kubassek & John Jackson where we considered how to proceed in the face of disenchantment. The early romance and honeymoon period of any new endeavor is truly exhilarating, often times with stunning results, everything from conceiving of children to pulling together the resources needed for your next big project and/or the early stages of starting a business.
Productivity Improvement via Method study
There are a number of approaches to improving productivity: the best-known currently is probably ‘Lean’ but such approaches go back many years to the days of the early ‘productivity pioneers’. Many people (and especially people of ‘a certain age’) will immediately think of ‘time and motion’ when asked to describe a productivity methodology. This refers to the early days of ‘work study’ when the aim (as it often still is today) is to reduce the time taken by, and the motion involved in, work. The ‘improvement’ methodology of work study that derived from time & motion study was method study … and an understanding of method study gives a real insight into how all productivity improvement methodologies work.

They have all been willing to look at how a high level administrative team can harness workplace conflict, master workplace relationships, tackle leadership dilemmas, be pioneers and visionaries in the field of education, build trustworthy relationships, and have enjoyable friendships all at the same time. They all came to "see with new eyes" and embrace life long learning. The task now is to take the skills they have learned to to their direct reports, to the rest of the organization.

Isn't that what entrepreneurs do? yup, that's what we do all the time! So is that the same as leadership?
