3.0 The Growth of Small Enterprises - the Problem: Entrepreneurship and Small Business Enterprise Growth in Uganda
| |
| Because of the importance that has been attached to these enterprises, there has been a lot of effort directed towards promoting these units. In many countries especially India, there has been affirmative and positive action towards promoting SSEs. A lot of literature is available on the success and failures of these enterprises. Many countries and indeed multilateral institutions have set up agendas and strategies for the development of these units. In Kenya, for instance, the Jua Kalis have been supported by the Kenyan government (Alila and McCormick, 1994) as avenues of industrialising and developing the country. |

5.1 Determinants of diversification in Africa: Economic Report on Africa 2007
| |
| Diversification and policy variables constitute a two-way process in that diversification
not only influences policy outcomes, but is itself influenced by policy variables.
This proposition naturally leads to the search for those economic and non-economic
policy actions that are likely to affect the level and rate of diversification in a country.
What evidence is there that links economic and non-economic variables with
national capacity to diversify? |

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND ATTRACTING INWARD FDI
| |
| One of the characteristics of rich industrial economies is the availability of a
workforce with a high level of human capital. Whether human capital has been the key
driver of economic prosperity or vice-versa is still a matter of debate. Nevertheless, long
time series trends in educational attainment and economic growth during the last century
indicate that HRD and economic prosperity went hand in hand10. Some developing
countries followed similar trends in human capital and economic growth. What was
distinctive about these developing countries is that they appeared to have realised large
economic benefits in attracting MNEs into host economies, and have thus mobilised
inward FDI to attain rapid economic growth. |

5 Major Advantages Of Multi-Unit Franchising
| |
| Increasingly, the candidates I work with as a franchise consultant are considering franchises that allow for multiple units. One major reason for this is a result of the increasing number of downsized executives in America needing to quickly replace lost six-figure-plus salaries. Their options in the traditional workplace may be limited. Or maybe they are seeking a career change, and they recognize the fact that by owning multiple franchise units, the road to meeting and exceeding their income goals can be realized much sooner. |

Mobile Home Parks: The Perfect Storm is Building for the Best Deals in Decades
| |
| Mobile home park sales have been in a continual decline since 2000. From a peak of almost 400,000 units sold per year then, sales are down to under 100,000 today. And most of those sales are units that do not end up in parks. The good news is that, unlike the single family home industry, bad new home sales have been in every park owner's and bank's budgets for almost a decade. There is no collapse to worry about -- it's already been dead for a decade. And no sellers are trying to use numbers based on good sales that are not really there anymore, nor do you have to guess when the rebound will occur. |
