What is Personal Branding
Mercedes, McDonalds, Wal-Mart. Like them or not, you probably have an idea of what these companies stand for and what you will get from them. For example, I probably wouldn't go to Wal-Mart to shop for a suit to wear to my next professional speaking engagement. I would, however, readily head off to Wal-Mart for back-to-school shopping for my elementary-school-age children, and homeware supplies. Upon my arrival I would fully expect to be warmly greeted by a smiling face at the door and to find an ample supply of family necessities at a fair and reasonable price. This is their brand impression.

The Everyday Life of a Super Work at Home Mom!
If you’ve encountered her on the street, in the grocery aisle, or at school in a parent-teacher meeting, then you’ll know her immediately. She’s the one who doesn’t seem to get tired: she can spend some time at school and have a doting, well-behaved child; she can work at home and have a few hundred dollars at the end of the day in her bank account; she can have fun on the weekends, some work on the weekdays, and an overall clean house; and she can do magic in the kitchen with all the foods and cakes she can cook. She is super mom – the super work at home mom that you idolize and sometimes even envy. But guess what? Super mom can help you become a super work at home mom yourself!

The Art of Asking Better Questions For Better Clarity, Focus and Greater Wealth
During a recent game of Scrabble my son doesn’t want to seek the answer to how to speak a word, he just wants to know the answer. When was it that we stopped seeking more answers by asking better questions? Very small children ask question after question and don’t look for someone to give them the answer. It seems to me that sometime in elementary school we stopped asking questions and started asking for answers.

The Fireman's Pole First, Kindergarten Next.
Rachael and I usually go over to the elementary school playground to play because it's closer, but today we went down the hill to the 'big park.'

New School Year: Lessons from a Middle Schooler
Today is the first day of school in Michigan and I am the new mom to a Middle Schooler!. Time has flown so quickly. It seems like just yesterday that I was holding him in the rocking chair in his room. I remember looking at his little legs and thinking to myself, “some day his legs will hang over mine when he sits on my lap. I can’t even imagine it.” And now here we are, it’s been years since he’s spent any time on my lap. His legs would almost hit the ground, all in the blink of an eye. Where has the time gone? I watch with amazement as he heads off to Middle School with nothing more than anticipation. Hallways to maneuver, new school, way more kids, lockers and classes to find. His elementary school is nothing more than a fond memory and he is ready to move on. I am so proud of him today!

Teacher Perspectives of Classroom Disruptions
High incidences of classroom disruptions, disrespect towards a teacher, and open defiance indicate that teachers and students have challenges with developing and maintaining positive classroom relationships which ultimately impact school discipline and student achievement. At a high school consisting of 95% White Teachers and 99% of historically underserved students (HUS) interviewed teachers believed teacher student relationships, student attitudes, and student preparation caused classroom disruptions.

Eight Steps for New Entrepreneurs to Obtain a Client
Converting a prospect to a client can become a daunting process, especially for a new entrepreneur. The prospect can bombard you with demands, try to get as much free information as possible, or just waste your time. This article provides some elementary steps I developed the hard way, from the school of lost business.

Dumb Jocks Or Smart Athletes
Did you know that Elementary school teachers constantly force “active” children to sit still and they are quick to recommend these youngsters be placed on drugs to control their restlessness? The ADHD epidemic of diagnoses speaks to this point.

Build a Better Career With a Strong Personal Brand
Whether you are an accountant, a restaurant manager, or a school teacher, your personal brand can play a critical role in determining the success of your career.

Is Paranoia an Acquired Taste?
In "Don't Bring It to Work" the underlying idea is that when stress hits the hot button we all revert to behavior patterns we learned as kids in our original organization, the family for protection and survival. That is what seems to be showing up around our country in this time of sadness and confusion. The knee-jerk reactions are so similar to ones that we can all remember when disagreements broke out in elementary and middle school playgrounds. We were given detentions, told to behave, but rarely sat down to really look at what started the upset in the first place.
