Lessons from The Breakfast Club
| |
| Have you ever tried to look better on the outside than you were feeling on the inside? Do you ever abandon your truth to please others? If you weren’t afraid of losing someone’s approval, acceptance, or love, if you didn’t feel that you had to choose between abandoning yourself or being abandoned by someone else, wouldn’t you be authentic all the time with everyone? Wouldn’t you stand up for yourself more?
Whenever I am challenged to please others at the expense of being real, I think about Anais Nin’s eloquent quote, “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” |

| ACT vs Goldmine-- a testimony
I supported ACT! versions 2 - 6 at my company for 10 years and Goldmine at a prior job. We had much success with it and had about 35 internal users, 20 synchronizing remote laptops and a database of about 75,000 contacts.

My Father's Leadership
| |
| Today's decline of the social structures in America that hold families, corporations and other institutes together is largely attributed to ineffective leaders. As I reflect on the importance of quality leadership, I think of my father, Johnson Kituku Musoo.
My father is a living testimony that what you don't have should not stop you from achieving what you want. His mother died before he turned ten, leaving him with a younger brother and sister to care for. I learned about his struggles from other people. I never heard him complain--although I once saw him cry, wishing that his mother was still alive.

Is the U.S. Government or a competitor in charge of the Congressional hearings involving Toyota
| |
| Today's Business Thought Leaders segment with author and industry expert Bill Michels was incredible. Of the several noteworthy observations Michels provided, his revelation that the current Congressional hearings regarding the Toyota recall has the Japanese manufacturer actually giving testimony before a competitor raises a number of red flags.
The moment that the U.S. Government became a majority owner of General Motors through its $30 billion “investment,” hearings such as the one involving Toyota are no longer arms length. In short, if a conflict arose in a judicial hearing where the judge and the defendant had a similar-type relationship to the one between the U.S. Government and Toyota, the judge would have to step down in the interests of justice.

5 Spices of Retail Design
| |
| This week as I was channel surfing I came across a cooking show on one of the Food Network. After unveiling the dish, the chef and his co-judges introduced each ingredient used in the dish. As the ingredients were placed on a back lit table the names of each one appeared. The whole presentation was a testimony to the art and science of visual merchandising.I couldn't stop wondering if there was a secret recipe to designing retail projects. A recipe requires ingredients and if those were placed on a table such as the one I saw on the show, what would be the words that would light up? Like any good dish, would the success of the project depend on how the ingredients were used? |
