Hiring New Team Members
Quick hiring, convenient hiring or insider hiring rarely works. There is reverse proportion between the timing of the hire and the quality of the hire. The quicker the hiring decision, the more likely the decision will be a poor decision. The more convenient the candidate (i.e. Bob in accountings’ sister in law) the more likely it will haunt you for a long period of time.

Document, Document, Document
As a manager, supervisor or even the company owner, dealing with employee related issues is inevitable. During a discussion with an employee, document everything that transpires at that meeting, who was in attendance, goals to be achieved, outcomes or next steps, etc.

Relationships: The Key to Organizational Success
Every company has an organizational structure which determines the duties and obligations of each employee. Each employee, from executive to manager to the employee, plays an important role in the productivity and success of the organization. In many cases channeled down organizational decisions can have a negative influence on the relationship between the supervisor and the employee which results in losses in organizational productivity and profits. Organizational relationships between supervisors and employees are the key to the success of any organization.

Effectively Dealing with Poor Management
While many individuals assume that pay or benefits are driving factors in employee dissatisfaction and turnover, research points in another direction. A Gallup Management Journal article highlighting excerpts from the book, First, Break All the Rules, reveals what is often the source of turnover. Employees join companies…but leave managers. The idea that a manager could affect whether an employee stays loyal to an organization isn’t a new concept. What made this article special was that it used a real life example of why one graduate of Stanford and Harvard left a well-known company after working there for only one year. The former employee said of her manager, “He’s not a bad man; He’s just not a manager. He’s insecure and I don’t think you can be insecure and be a good manager.” Her comment should alert all organizational leaders.
