Recession Time for Equal Opportunities
| |
| While equal opportunities may seem to be clouded by recession, it is still too early to make a judgment. One can choose to stand out in a crowd if prepared to embrace the new while the old passes away. |

5.0 Decent work, poverty eradication and policy coherence: Working Out of Poverty
| |
| Over the next ten years, over 1 billion young people, today aged between
5 and 15, will enter the working-age population. However, the global
economy is not well organized to make full use of the enormous potential of
their skills, energy and ambition to fight against poverty and make development
sustainable. Today’s working life offers opportunities to some, but lowpaid
work, unemployment and poverty to a great many. |

Coaching to Success in 2006 and Beyond
| |
| 2006 is well underway and each day presents opportunities for each and every one of us to be successful. But do we recognize the opportunities for success? Do we act upon the opportunities for success that are recognized? How does one become skilled in recognizing, seizing and acting upon opportunities for success? One very powerful answer: “through coaching.”

THE POWER OF THE MARKETING PYRAMID
| |
| By John Doerr
“All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.”
- George Orwell, Animal Farm 1956
Imagine this scenario: you are at a professional services firm that has just come off a fairly good year of growing revenue and profits. You want to continue this growth going into the coming year and have decided you are finally going to take some of these profits and invest in marketing. You have accumulated a list of 1,000 clients, former clients, and prospects to target. Everyone turns to you and asks, “Well, how are we going to invest our hard-earned profits?”

Understanding Double Entry Accounting
| |
| Sir Isaac Newton's third Law of Motion, the law of reciprocal actions, states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The same can be said for accounting. For every financial transaction, there are two sides. There is a debit side and a credit side. For every transaction, these sides must be equal for your books to balance. |

How to Find More Sales Opportuntities without Cold Calling
| |
| The two biggest problems for most companies right now, in this economy, are delayed closings and not enough new opportunities. I've tackled delayed closings, so today, with a little help from my friends, I'll tackle not enough new opportunities. I mentioned in my last post that (most of) you need three times more opportunities than ever before to make up for the late stage opportunities that aren't closing right now. |

Theory of Constraints + Lean + Six Sigma = Ultimate Improvement Cycle
| |
| What caught my interest in Bob's book The Ultimate Improvement Cycle is that recently there has been an added push from TOC disciples to bring TOC on an equal playing field as Lean and Six Sigma. I find it interesting because bottlenecks and constraints are an integral part of Lean and Six Sigma training but TOC has never seemed to be on an equal platform. |

Career Stock Raising
| |
| All requests are not equal; all customers or clients are not equal; all to-do-list tasks are not equal; all work responsibilities are not equal. You can do fifty things today and get little, if any, return on your personal investment for having done them. Or you can do one or two things which have a large return.

Life/work balance is nonsense
| |
| I hear a lot of talk about life/work balance and I think most of it is nonsense.
The word balance for me implies equal. I prefer the word harmony, therefore life/work harmony.
My personal and business life are not equal or in balance and are never likely to be.
They are in harmony with one another, that is, they work together like a symphony, two sides of the same coin. |
