Balance - Take More Time for Yourself!
| |
| Most of us are busier than ever. Our lives are full of things to do, places to go, people to meet. All of this in the name of "getting ahead." But there comes a time when we need to question "is this really success?" |

The New Year
| |
| Since we have a New Year to challenge us, it’s a good thing to keep our resolution to be bigger than our problems. Problems come with the territory called life, and we are fortunate in more ways than we realize. We need to move forward with optimism. |

Reflection is The Breakfast of Champions
| |
| As we strive to create peak performance, one key element of the process is to take time to reflect. It is the "internalizing" part of my AïM Program. Awareness can be translated into action by taking time to reflect on how we are using our energy and time to create optimal results. |

Taking Stock of What's Happening
| |
| There's a lot going on these days. People are stressed, no two ways about it. I'm observing a 'tired' group of executives whose staff are looking to them to 'fix' things. Well, no one has a magic wand, or... does everyone have a magic wand? |

The People Business - Admitting Error is Not A Weakness, It's A Strength
| |
| Welcome to the people business! It’s a business where the ability to read and interpret mood and behaviour in others is paramount - a business where suddenly the technical knowledge and executions that got you there somehow don’t matter quite so much. People are not going to follow you unless they sense you are real. They’re not going to believe in you unless you earn their trust – and they’re not going to trust you unless you always tell the truth and admit when you’re wrong. To admit a mistake is not a weakness – it’s a strength! |

Change Leadership Management
| |
|
Many small businesses experience change. Change leadership is the art of helping your team through the change management cycle. Each person shows different emotions and behaviour during change. It’s perfectly normal to experience a real mix of emotions. Not everyone feels all of these feelings intensely and people don’t go through them by numbers.

The Heroic Path
| |
| We are all born heroes. We choose our path and destiny every moment of every day. The hero's path is one of healing, of trials, and of discovering true power and enlightenment. It is not the power of the ego-that desires power to boost itself through greed, pushing harder, or through acknowledging superiority over others.
Our deeper truth, the one we carry in our Souls, is that of great vision, of leaping over obstacles with courage. Our greatest power takes wings through love, and connecting with others through compassion and kindness. The hero within knows that contribution is the key to the greatest gift he or she can offer others. |

Al Gores’ Approach to Work-Life Balance
| |
| In Al Gore’s documentary on global warming (An Inconvenient Truth), he makes reference to a picture used by the Bush administration to illustrate the conflict between money and environment. In the picture, there is a scale: on one side of the scale, there is a pile of gold bars, on the other the earth. As Al Gore somewhat wryly pointed out…gold is not much use to you if you have no earth.
I must say the same thought strikes me when I read about “work-life balance.” |

5.1 Faster economic growth could assist in diversification efforts: Economic Report on Africa 2007
| |
| The results for Africa, shown in table A5.1, suggest further that as income per capita
increases, there is a tendency for African economies to experience improvement in
their diversification processes. This is a very significant result and it is in line with
other empirical evidence, (see Imbs and Wacziarg 2003), which shows that poor
countries tend to diversify at first as their incomes rise, before they later begin to
become more specialized. African countries also fit into this theory of the U-shaped
stages of diversification. |

Organizational Environmental Uncertainties
| |
| From the genesis of management studies it has been recognized that organizations do not operate in a vacuum. In the seminal work, The Functions of the Executive, Chester Barnard (1938) theorized that an organization’s survival was dependent on its ability to sustain a balance with its external environment by readjusting its internal processes to match the various elements in the environment (Barnard, 1938, p. 6). In recognition of Barnard’s observation that firms must maintain equilibrium in an ever-changing environment, a considerable body of literature has developed that is devoted to conceptualizing and comprehending the external environment and its role in management theory.

The Next Level of Leadership
| |
| If someone told you that humility is the key to being a more competitive company and influential leader, how long would it take before you tuned out and started waiting for the leadership training to end?
As it turns out, humility is one of the ultimate competitive advantages in business. In Jim Collins' Good to Great research, he discovered two unique traits of leaders who moved companies from average performance to great: 1) intense professional will, and 2) extreme personal humility.
But while humility is an nice trait, who wants humility if it’s incompatible with winning? For most people, tradition holds that the opposite of excessive ego is humility, when in fact having too little ego is as dangerous and unproductive as having too much. Humility is the equilibrium between the two extremes and catalyst for healthy ego. |
