E + V + V + M = L
Ethics + Virtues + Values + Morals = Life (and well-being). Why? There seems to be some confusion about the terms Ethics, Values, Virtues and Morals. Certainly Ethics and Morals are used indiscriminately and are considered interchangeable as are Virtues and Values. Yet they each have a name and therefore a purpose.

The Impact of Culture on Acquisitions
In another article, I talk about the rate of failure of mergers and acquisitions being 91%. What I did not talk about was the primary cause of these failures. It is actually quite simple. Most of these transactions, commonly referred to as M&A, are driven by finances and financial calculations. Unfortunately that has nothing to do with the daily business of doing business for any organization. It is the people that matters, and it is a failure of recognizing the people, or culture, that cause most M&A transactions to fail. In this article, I talk about how to avoid this fatal mistake.

“BUSINESS ETHICS MUST BE PRESENTED, PRESERVED AND PROMOTED”
Business ethics are an almost daily topic in the news, in business schools, in the workplace and in our homes. I pay close attention to business ethics and what is written about them in my daily life as a strategic thinking, planning and business coach. I am still astounded at the remarks of major corporations a few years ago when they said they “waived or suspended” the ethics code or requirements. I am still at a total loss at how anyone can “suspend or waive” ethics. While I may not be able to explain the suspension or waiving of ethics, I do hope to provide some solid advice on what business and other organizations need to do today to present, preserve and promote ethics in their organizations. Here are action items I would recommend:

“Building An Environment of Ethical Behavior. Ten Tips From Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach ”
Business ethics has become and has remained a popular news topic in today’s world thanks to Enron, Tyco, WorldCom, Adelphia, et al. We have read and heard about the “waiving of the ethics code or standard” and where compromises were made to ethical standards for business advantages. And now we hear about zero tolerance for unethical behavior. It now seems as though the pendulum is swinging strongly in the direction of zero tolerance for unethical behavior based upon the reactions to ethics misconduct cases across the corporate landscape. Good business leaders have ethics, character and integrity. You have to create an environment in your business that allows everyone to operate in an ethical manner. Here are ten (10) tips from your strategic thinking business coach on how to build an environment of ethical behavior.

When Two Rights Make A Wrong
Ethics have always been a major concern in business, and with the current Washington (D.C.), banking and Wall Street failures, ethics have taken a prominent place on the national stage. Associations are beginning to help their members development ethics training and codes of conduct. Awards for good ethical businesses are being awarded. It is time to understand exactly what ethics are, and how they affect your business. Ethics is not about right vs. wrong - it is about right vs. right, or even worse, wrong va. wrong. This article explores the meaning of ethics and how they apply in a business environment.

The E Word: Ethics
Perhaps it’s time for Ethics to take its seat at the table. To be a central part of the ‘inner sanctum’ of thoughtful discussion when decision-makers have tough choices to make. It’s long past time for ethics to stop being the appendage to the body of how we come to decision and then action and actually be the guiding brain of how we do that. Ethics should be the litmus test against which all decisions should be measured. It should be integrated into the way we think even as individuals as we move through our lives and come up against tough choices that we each inevitably have to make in our lives.

Complete not perfect
If we are not content within ourselves then nothing, repeat nothing, will make us happy. Winning the lottery will certainly give us pleasure – we will be able to satisfy our desires, but it will not bring us happiness. Pleasures are superficial and all external – such as buying new clothes, food, alcohol, drugs and engaging in extreme sports. They need to be repeated because desires can never be satisfied. Happiness comes from inner peace with a contented and tranquil mind and an understanding of who we are, which includes our ethics, morals values and virtues. This understanding allows an acceptance of what we perceive to be our current ‘drivers’ for whatever actions, thoughts or behaviour patterns that make up our lives.

The Ethical Road to Success
Do you remember the old Sunday school discussions on being fair and having ethics? Today, ethics may seem to have gone by the way side but most businesses do have a code of ethics written right into their mission statements, as well as into their corporate literature. Public confidence is achieved through codes of ethics when they are shared in company literature such as brochures or sales and promotional materials.

Business Ethics Lesson From An Unlikely Individual
Sometimes every day life presents us with real opportunities to see business ethics lessons. What is so unusual about this lesson is the person involved truly should understand ethics given her profession.

Ethical Expectation You Should Expect From Your Business Broker
Some business brokers belong to certain associations that have a code of ethics for brokers to follow. These, along with their own code of ethics, help ensure business brokers are of value to a business seller and buyer. A code of ethics ensures that a business broker puts the needs of the client before their own when making a business transaction.

We Have an Ethical Dilemma!
Our finest business schools are beefing up their ethics programs in response to the erosion of corporate ethics that has resulted in the recent high profile debacles, right? Guess again...
