Turning A 'No' Into A 'Yes'
I recently experienced a very clear example of Buying Facilitation®, when i used it to turn a failed buying situation into a purchase. I tell a shortened version of this story in my new book, Dirty Little Secrets; it bears repeating during this economic confusion when buyers are having difficulty getting to ‘yes’. I was at a client site running a Buying Facilitation® training. A part of the training includes real-time calls to clients prospects. In this situation, my client had requested that the team listen to me on a call first, so they could hear what BF actually sounded like real-time. They set up a phone meeting between me and a prospect who had called recently to say “Sorry. We won’t be purchasing your product,” after one year of 3 sales visits and 3 product trials.

The Advantages of a Franchise
I am fully confident in making the statement that there are many advantages to becoming a Franchisee in a good Franchise system. Of course, there are certain disadvantages as well, and each person must weigh their own dreams and desires in relation to what they want from their life. To many, the advantages will far outweigh the drawbacks. That’s why we have seen the domination of Franchising as a business strategy in the global marketplace over the past two decades.

REWARD SUCCESS AND FAILURE EQUALLY
Success and Failure are two sides of a coin. We need to accept them equally. Failure is nothing but a feedback of your actions. So, never get disappointed when you fail but accept it as a stepping stone for your success.

SUCCESS NEVER COMES OVER NIGHT
Success is the hard earned asset of a person. It just never comes by chance or over night. Lots of hard work, perseverance and involvement helps an individual to gain success.

A Life Worth Living
This article will serve as an introduction to a series of articles that I am writing on a wonderful book entitled “The Slight edge “ by Jeff Olson. The Slight Edge can be characterized as the road to success. either you are above that edge and working on the arc of success or you are below it and working toward failure. Follow the series called The Easiest Journey to understand the slight edge, how to live above it and forge your path to success.

An article consisting of 1127 words describing how to deal with and learn from failure

Success and Failure Are Learning Experiences
James Dicks examines how failure, if treated correctly, can help lead to future success.

The Office Bully
We have all come into contact with one at some time or another but there is nothing that causes more angst in the workplace than the activities of a bully. Strutting around, loud mouthed, opinionated, full of bluster and of course always right. If a situation arises in which there may be (God forbid) the possibility of error – then the shouting begins and it is all YOUR FAULT. The fault cannot possibly lie with the person who is always right (the bully). He, or she, must keep control of the situation. To do otherwise is to admit a failure, an error, and this cannot be. Result? Unhappiness all round.

Always Ask What Then?
Often as we receive instructions to accomplish a task we are satisfied with the first part of the directions given. This can lead to confusion and a failure to attain the prescribed results because our minds weren’t considering the next action. Nothing is as simple a process as we might think and normally builds upon the next procedure. Everything is a series of operations, producing the desired outcome.

GOING TO IMPROVE SOMETHING, IMPROVE IT!
Some may have been thinking that we have been wasting our time. But changing the process without the data is cause for failure. You have heard it time and time again, JUST DO IT! We have been trained that way, action is accomplishment. But the wrong action may accomplish little or drive you deeper into a hole.

Integrity is the Key for Followers
Of the many traits humanity has, integrity is probably the must sought after in others. We desire truth and honesty but also that it be rooted inside each individual and not just only as a front. This is so vital in leadership that it has caused the failure of many an endeavor.

Your Negative Belief System
How does the voice of your negative belief system sound? Do any of these sound familiar? You are worthless, useless, a failure, lazy, ugly, a mess, non-deserving, not good enough, unlovable, stupid, fat, etc etc etc!

Necessity is the Mother of Intention
The road to failure is as they say, paved with good intentions.

Success Requires Patience and Persistence
When failure mounts up, step back. Re-examine what you are doing. Remind yourself to be patient. And remember, patience is more of a decision than an emotion

How Marginal Employees Ace Interviews
In today’s highly competitive and turbulent business environment, hiring average employees can spell “failure”. That means, interviewers play a key role in the success, or failure, of their companies. That leads one to ask, "Why how do so many average and poor performers get hired, and so few High Performers?" Come to find out, many interviewers have had little or no formal training on how to hire the best. To make matters worse, the applicant has become interview-savvy. They have learned to maneuver through the interview by accentuating the positive and minimizing the negative, and getting the job offer. It's a very uneven playing field that does NOT favor the interviewer. But that can be turned around. Let's address interviewer training. Read on:

Incorrectly Assessing A Job Applicant's Motivation
In today's highly competitive and turbulent business environment, hiring average employees can spell "failure". Companies can not afford mediocrity while their competitors are striving to be the best. Hiring impacts profits in more ways than most companies realize. A Harvard Business School study determined that more than 75% of turnover could be traced back to poor hiring practices. The decision to hire -or not to hire- plays a significant role in turnover. The leading contributor to turnover is often not what happens after the employee is hired, but rather the process leading up to it. And turnover is not always bad if it's a bad hire that's leaving. You have to wonder if you really are hiring the best we can.

Sometimes You Want To Quit
When faced negative circumstances, many people simply give up. They let the disappointment and discouragement from the experience(s) take over and resign them to failure. Instead of looking ahead, they wallow in an endless sea of negative thought and negative emotions. Here's how to overcome your "bad times".

Do You Think You Are a Failure, When Failure Comes Knocking At Your Door?
I dislike the word failure, if you use demotivating words you will feel a lack of motivation. Think of every experience as a chance to learn and grow and move on.

Why Do So Many Businesses Fail?
Since beginning this experiment I've had a lot of time to think about things during my seven mile walks each day. It seems all we hear about in the news lately is how all the mega-corporations are failing. Whether it's a company that is completely destroyed and forced out of business due to corrupt managment, or the government needing to jump in an bail out the automotive companies. The fact that I even know what's going on in the world is amazing, since I boycotted the news back in January and haven't began watching it since that time. Unfortunately I spend a good amount of time with Twitter and see all the doom and gloom headlines each day. THANKS ALOT TWITTER!!!

The Persistent Mind Prevails Over a Dormant One
Through the ages of time we can all agree that the majority of the most persistent individuals have had the most success and the most impact on others. These individuals had a desire that the intensity level was one that which consumed them to a point there was nothing else, to a depth that there was no room for failure.

List Building Best Practices
Having a well qualified list of contacts is one of the most important factors in determining the success or failure of an email marketing campaign. Read the following summary to understand how you can build a rock-hard list.

How to Build Your Business
Is your business one that will go into the satistics as a failure? Do not let that happen.

How I Invented YouTube
A controversial article about how YouTube really got started from the mouth of its inventor. Highly criticized and viral, the video "I Invented YouTube!" is featured mainly in Europe. Why? The American status quo of course! Failure? Victim? Hoax? Crackpot? You be the judge.

Designing for Power: Rapid Development, Scale and Usability
You want to be able to control power. You want to wield it like a weapon, or perhaps a tool, against beyond-human forces (forces of nature, commerce and the meta-human). How can we extend business into space? When will our organizations evolve to provide us with the depth needed to evolve further? What is the role of customer, organization, capitalist, super-capitalist and human being? Does negative marketing help or hurt? Some people say it does both. What are the psychological factors of failure? Why do we need organizations?

In the Darkest Hour: Start Something New
Starting a business was always a dream; so much in fact that it grew and grew in its importance to me as I progressed through college. Parkinson's Law came into effect here: the longer I waited, the bigger the burden seemed to be. Why start a business? I had a plan: an idea that would make me an instant millionaire, but I lacked the desire to endure it alone.

Lesson #5: Never Stop Learning
“Every now and then I like to pick up a copy of Time magazine and read every article from beginning to end, not just the articles that interest me most,” says Gates. “That way you can be certain to learn something you didn’t know previously.”

Tearing Down Walls: How Walton Rose To The Top
Sam Walton passed away in 1992 but his legacy lives on. It is estimated that if the Wal-Mart chain was its own economy, it would rank 30th in the world, behind Saudi Arabia. The company’s revenues continue to grow at roughly 10% a year, likely surpassing half a trillion dollars in sales within the next decade. The international division of Wal-Mart is also its fastest-growing division, which indicates that the company is continuing to increase its presence around the world. If Sam Walton were alive today, he would be the richest person in the world, with twice the fortune of Bill Gates. How did a farm boy from Oklahoma accomplish all of this?

Pulling The Right Strings: How Henson Achieved Success
“When I was a kid, I never saw a puppet show,” Henson recalled. “I never played with puppets or had any interest in them.” It is with thankfulness from children around the world that Henson’s interests changed over time. Such familiar characters as Kermit the Frog, Ernie, Rowlf the dog, and Miss Piggy have since become ingrained in the national psyche. Henson revolutionized the worlds of children’s television and puppeteering and had a blast along the way. How did he do it?

Lesson #2: Try And Try Again
When Hershey first tried his hand at entrepreneurship, it seemed he would forever take after his father, with one failed business attempt after another. Although he had determination and ambition and he had begun working towards his dreams while he was still a teenager, Hershey found himself unemployed and nearly bankrupt by the time he was 30.

Lesson #2: Bear With It
“The bear is what we all wrestle with,” says Lopez. “Everybody has their bear in life. It’s about conquering that bear and letting him go.”

Lesson #5: Try and Try Again
“I learned more from the one restaurant that didn’t work than from all the ones that were successes,” says Puck.

Lesson #4: Lose No Time
“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,” Franklin once said. He went on to pose the question, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.”

Lesson #1: Failure Is Your Friend On the Road To Success
Watson thought about his success in plain terms. When he was once asked what the secret to all he had achieved in his life was, Watson replied, “It’s quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You’re thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all.”

Lesson #2: Dont Rush It
“Quality means doing it right when no one is looking,” said Ford and he followed this philosophy ardently for the near half century in which he was in business.

Lesson #1: Your Potential is Determined By Your Self-Belief
“The only thing that's keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself,” says Robbins. “What we can or cannot do, what we consider possible or impossible, is rarely a function of our true capability. It is more likely a function of our beliefs about who we are.”

Lesson #2: Personal Power is the Ability to Take Action
“The path to success is to take massive, determined action,” says Robbins. “Your life changes the moment you make a new, congruent, and committed decision…It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.”

Lesson #5: Be Clear About Who You Are
“When you think about it, you should compare the World Wrestling Federation to other major entertainment companies or motion picture studios,” says McMahon. “We are Hollywood. We're entertainment, and that's what the World Wrestling Federation is all about.”

Wrestling With Success: McMahon’s Climb to the Top
“A cover, a count and a win,” says McMahon. “I always win.”

Lesson #2: Growth Happens in Bounds and Leaps – of Faith
Jeff Bezos is a risk taker. There are no other words to describe the man who put everything he had into a venture that many said was doomed to failure, even calling it Amazon.toast for the company’s first five years. Bezos might not have known what the future held in store for him and his small garage-based start-up, but he was sure about one thing: “I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying.”

Lesson #2: Know When to Hold ‘Em and Know When to Fold ‘Em
In 1995, Schwartz embarked on one of his most ambitious business deals to date, and one that would forever haunt his career. That was the year Schwartz decided to put in his bid to buy the John Labatt Brewery. He had even been successful in persuading the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board to support his $2.3 billion bid to takeover the popular beer company. But Schwartz would not experience the smooth sailing he had predicted.

Debbi Fields Quotes

Lesson #1: Make Your Critics Eat Their Words
“The greatest failure is not to try,” says Fields. “Had I listened to all the people during the course of my life who said, “You can’t. You’ll fail. It won’t work. You don’t have…,” I wouldn’t be here today.”

Lesson #3: Go After Customers both New and Old
“If there’s something I can do and I feel it should be done, I just want to do it,” says Johnson. “I just don’t want to leave it undone because I’ll sit back and say, why didn’t I do that? Why didn’t I start that business?”

Lesson #2: Desire to Make More of Yourself
“Although in skating you compete with other people, anyone who achieves a certain level of success is first and foremost competing against themselves,” says Wang. “And for me the idea that I could always do better, learn more, learn faster, is something that came from skating. But I carried that with me for the rest of my life.”

Lesson #5: “Success seems to be connected to action.”
Marriott never stood still or took the time to reflect on his successes. After all, there was no time to indulge in such things. “Successful people keep moving,” he would say. “They make mistakes, but they never quit.”

Lesson #5: “Hard times are an opportunity for growth”
If there is one lesson that Wilson has carried with him since he was a young boy it is this: every opportunity, whether missed or taken, represents another lesson to be learned.

Overcoming Fear
Fear has been correctly identified with the acrostic False Evidence Appearing Real. The truth is that if we think something is to be feared, that perception becomes the cruelest form of reality.

Using Positive Affirmations
Using positive affirmations is a proven technique that works miracles in many lives. Ideally, you should look yourself in the eye as you make these positive affirmations. Don't be shy; go ahead and get started! Repeat the following statements to yourself every Monday morning to get your day and week off to a great start:

Healthy Fear
There really is "healthy fear." For example, it's very healthy to fear drinking before you drive. However, fear should not be allowed to run rampant through our lives so that it becomes such a devastating factor that it produces failure. The problem is not getting rid of fear, but using it properly.

Don\'t Keep Score
Hey, with the national political process well underway, wouldn't it be cool if you had grown up with the President-to-be and he owed you a big favor? WRONG! (Sorry, trick question.) As tempting as that may sound, this kind of thinking will actually lead you to real failure in life on so many dimensions.

Failing To Succeed
"You've got to learn to lose in order to win" sounds like strange advice, but the man who says it has earned over three hundred million dollars. Even in today's economy, that's a considerable sum of money. Here's the story.

Hitting The Bull's Eye
Somebody once said the difference between a big shot and little shot is that the big shot was the little shot who kept on shooting. There's much truth in that witticism. The reality is, no matter what our target might be, we seldom hit it on the first try unless the target is low, which means the accomplishment--and the rewards--will be insignificant.

If Gap Needs a Niche
The New York Times carried an article today with the headline - Gap Is in Need of a Niche.

More on Indifference from Tom
Darci, from her Comment: "... and pursue my passion. It was a leap of faith and there was no safety net to catch me if I failed."

Trusted Ears
Do you ever ask for advice? Do you try out your new ideas on people before they are seen by the public? Probably.

Failure Comes From Not Following Your Additive Rules
The cliche “rules were meant to be broken” is a common one in the world of entrepreneurship. Paul Berberian – a great entrepreneur (and dear friend) almost died yesterday when flying his airplane because he broke three of his rules of flying in a row. Paul got lucky and I very glad he’s alive.

Misery Clubs
I’ve heard misery loves company but this is ridiculous.

Never Give Up! The Power of Determination
In a previous issue of success strategies, I talked about the importance of taking action toward your goals, dreams and desires. But one of the most important qualities you will need to develop in order to continue taking action is persistence.

Doing Better Than Good!
People frequently ask me, “How can I know when I am doing better than good?” I thought about that question and came up with 15 ways to measure yourself. Take a look and see what you think:

100 Ways to Succeed #95
NON-LINEARITY RULES. NON-LINEARITY = LIFE. IF SUCCESS [OR FAILURE] IS DETERMINED ALMOST ENTIRELY BY THE UNPREDICTABLE [LITERALLY], THEN WHAT?

Responding
When you respond to life, that's positive; when you react to life, that's negative. Example: you get sick and go to the doctor. Chances are good that after an examination he or she would give you a prescription with instructions to return in several days. When you walk back in if the doctor starts shaking his head and says, "It looks like your body is reacting to the medicine, we're going to have to change it," you probably would get a little nervous. However, if the doctor smiled and said, "You're looking great! Your body is responding to the medication," you would get excited and feel much better. Yes, responding to life is good. Reacting to the incidents of life is negative - and that's bad. The next example validates that fact.

Motivation
From the pages of Crossroads, written by Edgar T. Chrisemer and published in 1962 by Bruce Humphries of Boston, MA, comes this inspiring story:

Not Everything Works
You hear a lot about successful companies on most VC blogs. It’s a lot easier to talk about success than it is to talk about failure.

Positive Thinking
Just what can positive thinking do? To be candid, some people have given positive thinking a bad name. I can't stand to hear some gung-ho individual say that with positive thinking you can just do "anything." If you think about that one for a moment, you recognize the absurdity of it. As a ridiculous example, I'm a positive thinker, but I could never slam-dunk a basketball or perform major surgery - or even minor surgery - on anyone and expect that person to survive. Nate Newton, the 300-plus pound lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, is positive, optimistic and outgoing but he'd be a complete failure as a jockey or a ballet dancer.

Rejection - Not By You, Really
Rejection isn't failure. I've been back from vacation for five days (including the weekend) and I've send out around 100 50 (if felt like 100, but I went back and counted and it was slightly more than 50) rejection emails to deals that came into my inbox while I was on vacation. It's part of my job - and I try to always at least give a little context as to why something isn't interesting to me. But 50 in five days (really 10 days including the vacation) starts to be a little discouraging.

Excellent Story on the Failure of Monitor110
It's unusual for a founder to write a long thoughtful post on the failure of his company. Roger Ehrenberg - the co-founder of Monitor110 - which shut down earlier this week, did just that on his outstanding post titled Monitor110: A Post Mortem. The post is oriented around Roger's "seven deadly sins":

What you can learn from a lousy teacher...
If you have a teacher (of any sort) that you cannot please, that you cannot learn from, that is unwilling to take you where you need to go because he is defending the status quo and demonstrates your failure on whatever report card he chooses to use, you could consider yourself a failure. Or you could remind yourself...

Getting Past Fear of Failure and Growing a Successful Business
When it comes to growing a business, every entrepreneur is bound to make mistakes along the way. It’s easy to let your emotional self get frustrated, fearful and freaked. But you can’t let a couple mistakes-no matter how painful-keep you from being successful…

Living With Fear
“I’ve never been afraid to ask for money before, why am I so worried now?” Kate asked me. Kate and Mary were writing a business plan for a new elegant furniture store they planned to open. They had had a failed attempt to run a similar store in another state with several other partners. They told me they had learned a great deal from their failure. (“We got an MBA in retail in 6 months!”)

Personal Growth - Failure Consciousness versus Success Consciousness
After hearing a number of recommendations for the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, I downloaded a copy to listen to in the car. One of the first things the book says is to take it one chapter at a time, really absorb each one and integrate the ideas slowly, making them your own. Having to spend the next 2 hours in the car I initially scoffed at listening to just one chapter. The first profound statement hit me as the book unfolded in the first chapter. It said ‘the goal of this book is to help you move from a failure consciousness to a success consciousness’. I did indeed stop the book after the first chapter and give it some thought, which quickly made me realize how much of my life I have spent with a failure consciousness.

Choose Your View
Our experiences are much less important than how we choose to think about them. The way we interpret our experiences shapes our beliefs about the past. Furthermore, our interpretations either limit or enable our future success. For example, a mission-critical project you are leading has “promotion” written all over it, but it bombs – it’s over budget, past its deadline… the works. How you choose to interpret those facts is where you can shape your future. Are you a failure, a poor leader who is maxed out and on her way out? Or, are you a great leader in the making who is learning some tough lessons that will help ensure success on the next project when your true colors will show? Facts are facts, but the view you take is your choice.

The fear you focus on is the fear that is getting in your way and keeping you from sales success. Most sales producers harbor fears related to: talking to people, rejection, or failure.

Focus on Your Talents
Most people are focused on where the opportunities are and then try to fit themselves into that mould, without giving appropriate thought to their own unique talents and abilities. However, that's not always a great idea. Because today's business playing field is slippery, time is a commodity you don't have, the future is unknown, and security is a thing of the past! In this environment it is important to remember to try differently, rather than trying harder!

Which Franchise is right for you How do you choose
HOW TO CHOOSE A FRANCHISE? Choosing a franchise that is right for you is one of the best actions you can take to ensure your business’s success. If you’ve already decided to buy into a franchise, the next step is to determine what franchise you want to buy. There are many different kinds of franchises, ranging from computer repair providers to video rental outlets to restaurants and everything in between. Before you start a franchise, you’ll have to decide what kind you want. A lot of thought and deliberation has to go into your decision, as choosing the right business for you can make or break your chances at success.

Contain The Complainers!
Great leaders don't assume that they know all the answers or what the future will hold. They don't want to miss out on the next big thing and their culture tolerates, and even rewards, complaints. Keith R. McFarland writes in his book, "The Breakthrough Company", that one of the characteristics of the $250M rapid growth companies he examined is that the leadership was very tolerant of dissenters and even let people pursue ideas for new business even when they thought they were wrong.

Franchise Agreements The Basics
What you need to look for when you want to start a franchise and are ready to sign the franchise agreement. So you’ve taken all the appropriate steps; you’ve researched, asked questions, found out about the competition, scouted locations and lined everything up. Now it’s time to sit down and sign the franchise agreement. But before you do, there are several things you need to know. The franchise agreement will be the bedrock of your business, and success (or failure) may lie somewhere inside all those conditions and terms. A smart franchisee will read the franchise agreement very carefully, making sure they understand everything within it. Here are some of the most commonly misunderstood or potential problematic areas you need to be aware of:

The Power to Influence People
When it all comes down to the key reasons that help you to influence people it basically comes down to your own self belief systems. If you have negative thoughts about yourself they will always effect your actions in front of people that you need to influence the most. Crazy I know, but it's true

Chill Out guide to positive thinking
Just think, everything you have ever achieved, started with just a little thought, it may take days, weeks or even years to turn into reality, consistantly planting that seed in your mind everyday starts the process in helping you make your thoughts become reality.

The Joys of Repeated Failure
Get in the game. Take reasonable, creative risks. Be willing to lose or "fail". Learn to embrace unexpected and (sometimes) painful or expensive outcomes as part of the tuition for success. Unless you are willing to pay the price, there is no chance to reach the top of the mountain. Go for it!

Zero Tolerance Means Zero Leadership
We have all heard the horror stories regarding zero tolerance policies in the past. Stories about a teenager being expelled for having a Tylenol in her purse or a five year old removed from the classroom for bringing a toy gun to school are recent examples that have generated buzz in the press. Most of us laugh at the ridiculousness of such examples and consider them to be the exception rather than the rule for today's society. Why do such policies exist and what purpose do these extreme measures provide the organization? Do such extreme positions provide any benefit? How does such a policy reflect on the leadership within these organizations? And finally, what might be the cost for an organization that must act upon the violation of such a policy?

What Workers are REALLY Thinking About in Meetings
The next time you worry that your meeting presentation might not be detailed enough, or you want to make sure you include all of the relevant data, or you want to re-do that PowerPoint slide one last time, you might want to reconsider. A synopsis of the study can be foundin this article.

ot everyone is cut out to be a self-employed business person. To work for yourself, you are required to be an innovative and motivated individual and need to have a professional attitude.

Cut yourself some slack
How many of you feel that you have so many different responsibilities in your life, that you cannot possibly make it all work. You may be focusing on work obligations while trying to keep your household up and running. All of this running around creates a feeling of hopelessness. I have seen it countless times with clients that try to do it all with enormous to-do lists, and in the end they feel like a failure. Sometimes I just need to remind them of the larger picture. When all is said and done, do you really think anyone is going to care that your home is spotless? Rather, what they will remember is how they felt in your presence, the memories you shared.

DEALING WITH FAILURE
Our greatest glory is not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall. Any failure seems so total, later on you realise you can have another go.

Creating a Franchise
The first question that an individual or company needs to ask before taking the franchising route to growth. Is franchising the best method of business expansion for you? Do you have the personal attributes to be a franchisor? What are your motives for contemplating the utilisation of a franchise system?

Marketing Snake Oil
For the longest time, I associated people who market and advertise with evil. I hated seeing advertisements telling me "if only I bought this, I would be cool also". I couldn’t imagine what type of person became a marketer or advertiser. Now I am one.

The difference between a "reason" and an "excuse"
There's a million and one reasons for failure in the restaurant, or any other, business. I've heard them all, I just don't believe them all. The Use of Goals - Friend or Foe?

Public organisation are required to share their goals with the world. The penalties for failing to achieve them are collapsing share prices and reduced investment. The message is clear - it is good to achieve.

Attract the Business Relationships You Desire
Do you seem to attract business with people who don’t have a clear vision of what they want, or who are negative in their approach? Some examples might be: We need sales, we’ve got to make our numbers this quarter. Or, the market right now is so bad, it’s really affecting our business. Or clients who say, “I’d love to, but I really can’t afford your services.” Let’s stop a minute. Are you attracting people and business that you want, or connecting with what you don’t want? Let’s see how you can enable situations, people and events that bring you the joy, success and the wealth that you deserve.

Practice Patience – “They” Aren't on Your Time Frame
Patience is a virtue. This cliché is the essence of running a work at home business. Impatience can breed failure if you aren't careful. One of the most important areas in which patience is needed, is realizing that YOUR time schedule and your potential CLIENT's or RECRUIT's time schedule may be totally off synch from each other. Whether you are looking at recruiting someone for your business opportunity or attempting to sell your product/service to someone, you need to realize that these contacts and potentials aren't as anxious about your business as you are. Analyze, quantify and project before you step into the next year It is that time of the year again when, as a business owner, you should take a step back, contemplate about the lessons learnt in the current year, and formulate concrete business development strategies for the coming year. An intensive drill-down will help you better understand the business challenges and implement ideas that will make your organization more productive. Here are some points to ponder…

The "Never Play Favorites" Myth
Many year's ago, while training at a branch of Dean Whitter (now Morgan Stanley), I learned an important management truth. The branch manager at this office was mandated by corporate to spend a minimum of 60 percent of his time working with and supporting the stock brokers who had been given offices (based on their top performance) surrounding the "bull pen," where the vast majority of the brokers had cubicles. Those staff members in the cubicles were allocated 40 percent of the manager's time.

Ten More Important “Lessons Learned” For Leaders, According To Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach
Building upon another article I wrote on important lessons learned for leaders, I thought about additional important “lessons learned” for leaders that could be shared. The potential reward and return on efforts related to the strategic action to identify the “lessons learned” from our experiences merits additional thought. I found another great quote to share to confirm the value and importance of the “lessons learned” approach. The following is a quote from John Keats. “Don't be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, inasmuch as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and every fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterwards carefully avoid. Here are 10 more important "lessons learned" for leaders.

What did you learn from the last sale you lost?
Your ability to be professional and appreciative in listening to what the customer shares with you will help ensure you have a good relationship going forward with that person.

The Toxic Manager
Most managers are not comfortable with a simple truism that the current condition of any organization is direct reflection of leadership. In other words, managers are accountable for the current success or failure of the team. This epiphany is a rude awakening for some and a sad reality for others. The challenge faced by most aspiring leaders is the brutal accountability that accompanies autonomy. In other words, team performance is directly related to "who" is on the team and "how" they are managed. The wrong people certainly influence performance and this quantification of talent is the primary measure of success and failure.

About Sales
There are as many different ways to do sales as there are salespeople! This installment of the Build-Your-Business newsletters will try to focus on some of the best and most effective techniques. Is sales really important? There are a lot of aspects to running a business. I suspect that sales is the only one which, if ignored, absolutely guarantees failure! On the other side of it, businesses with a successful sales program can have a lot of other things wrong with them, and still work!

Failure and Risk
Why failure and risk should be required in your business and your planning!

The Wiggler, The Stickler, and The Hermit
Understanding the tendencies of managers can be very entertaining and humorous. Learning to identify the common challenges faced by many managers can enlighten us to the point that we improve our own performance. Labels can help us identify both the success and failure we all experience when assuming a leadership position within an organization. As you read this, I encourage you to examine these labels for both intrinsic and extrinsic value. In other words, do you sometimes exhibit behavior that can be indentified with each label? Have you worked with others that fit these descriptions?

Failure creates success! Part I
Fear of making a decision – because I might make the wrong one. Fear of failure – how will I look? Fear of taking the chance – I could mess up. Fear of risk – I could get fired.

How to Flood Your Dealership with Customers
There is a revelation that is shocking and, quite frankly, scary. A dangerous and potentially fatal mistake is being made everyday in businesses. The mistake is the confusion between strategy and tactics. Strategy is your overall goal for your business and your overall marketing philosophy to achieve those goals.

WHY WE DO NOT ACHIEVE OUR GOALS
Psychologists consider that it is unrealistic expectations of the ease with which the goals can be attained, which lead to failure. We fail because we do not prepare for personal change. There is no good fairy that will come to you in the night and transform your body for you. The successful see failure as a source of lessons for them; it teaches them valuable lessons as to what needs to be altered in order to achieve the goal.

As a business owner ongoing learning is essential. Did Bill Gates grow up thinking like a billionaire? Of course not. He had to grow in to a billionaire mindset. Both earned the right to achieve their goals because they failed forward.

Today\'s \"rant\" - insubordination
Many broadcasters long for the past where stability was the norm. Our customers (advertisers, viewers/users, stockholders and employees) are looking for much more from us. They are begging us to defy the past and invent the future to drive their success. That, by definition, forces us into instability, experimentation and the willingness to fail.

A FiveStep Plan to Overcome Procrastination
Dear Jane, Why can't I ever finish anything? Why do I procrastinate so much? Most of us think we are simply lazy when we procrastinate. But the truth is that the cause of most procrastination isn’t laziness; it’s fear. We may be afraid that the task at hand is overwhelming or we may be afraid of failing at it. These are the two biggest fears that tend to keep us in approach/avoidance mode. Here are five key ways to get past your resistance and get “it” done, whatever the “it” is:

Stop Working & Start Thinking
“Work harder” – “Work more hours” – “Put your nose to the grindstone” – “You have to pay your dues” – “Climb the ladder of success.” Do all of these sayings sound familiar? These common phrases often espouse ideas that become anchored as limiting beliefs in your brain. Here’s the shocking news; these phrases often put into motion a cycle of struggle and failure. These common teachings may have kept you from having the kind success you desire. The missing ingredient is not your work, it’s your thoughts.

2.1 Dimensions of crisis
There are two basic sets of concerns about VET and poverty reduction. The first focuses on the failure of most targeted training interventions to have any appreciable, sustained impact on livelihoods.

Better to Try and Fail – or not try at all??
Recently I watched the 2007 movie Lions for Lambs. In this movie a brilliant but apathetic student asks his professor, “Is there any difference in trying but failing, and simply failing to try – if you end up in the same place anyway?” He was attempting to justify taking the safe route; never really taking a stand or trying anything big. What do you think? Do you cringe at trying something big because of the possibility of failure?

Success Beyond Success
Can you imagine waking up every day, and feeling successful regardless of what's happening in your small business? That would be a nice place to be - especially with the myriad of details constantly on your mind. Your marketing plan, cash flow, managing time and deadlines. It's normal to sometimes wonder if you'll ultimately be successful, or if you'll have to eventually throw in the towel and go back to being employed.

Belief Becomes Reality

Service and Wellbeing
When time is tight and energy levels are low, it is hard to think of the needs of others. When frustrations are high and worry is constant, it feels like we are the ones who need support and help. But we find some magic in the universe when we help others. It is a profound step to reclaiming deliberate control over one's life.

Talent is Never Enough
I have been dumbfounded recently by running into several long-time acquaintances who are down on their luck. These are guys who were used to first class all the way – restaurants, cars, private flights, yachts and houses. And now they have been dealing with selling clothes on eBay to pay the apartment rent, parking the car because gas is too expensive, and eating at McDonalds.

Positive Thinking is the Fuel that Propels Marketing Success
A successful salesperson needs to have the finesse and people skills to win back lost customers, negotiate the best deal, ask for and get sales referrals, inspire teamwork, and have the energy and optimism to overcome setbacks and keep moving forward in the face of temporary failure. Without a positive mental attitude, none of that is going to

Don’t Wait for Perfect…..
One of the beauties of today’s workplace is that we can just get in the game and then refine our business as we go. The unfinished and imperfect business, book, website, house, job, garden, or fashion design is a starting point. Releasing a trial version can be an act of transparency – and an invitation to customers and friends to help complete and improve it.

The 5% Challenge
I am very intentional about my use of time, working from a schedule that I create weeks in advance. But that does not mean that I work head down for 8 hours without taking a break. I once worked with a high-level financial executive that told me for 26 years at his previous company he had worked “head down, pencil up.” And he was dreadfully out of touch with currents trends and opportunities.

That dog won’t hunt
Here we are at the end of March already. I was talking with a friend the other day about an old farmer’s adage we used to anticipate in March regarding the weather: “In like a lamb, out like a lion.” Or “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” The expectation was that if we had harsh winter weather at the beginning of March we would have mild weather at the end – and vice versa. I have no idea why that is expected but it reminds me of all the little clichés that we accept as reality. As farmers we also used to cite, “Red in the morning, sailors warning; red at night, sailors delight.”

Are you Stuck in Failure?
If you asked me that question a week ago I would've told you, "Absolutely not!" I think most of us would respond that way. We're all positive people, right? I unearthed a new mental reality about myself last Saturday. I didn't even know I was stuck in the mindset of failure, yet I was. Here’s my story:

Feeling Lonely At The Top? It May Be Time For An Executive Business Coach!
Have you heard or ever spoken the words, “It is lonely at the top!”? This was a much used phrase in an organization I worked with some years ago. And it really is true! Many executives and top business leaders experience that feeling and many executives arriving in a new company and/or position will often fail. Some of the most common reasons why they fail include: unclear and misunderstood expectations; failure to build strong and effective relationships with key stakeholders; failure to understand the company culture; failure to manage change; and failure to gain the confidence and commitments from the management team. Each of those failures could be addressed if the executives had the benefit of an executive business coach with thirteen (13) major characteristics that define a good executive business coach.

“Failure Breeds Success – If You Learn From Each Failure”
Many readers of this article may ask how failure breeds success? Others will ask, “Doesn’t failure breed more failure, a sense of loss, or a loser mentality?” And I welcome the inquiry and the chance to respond because I believe there is more to learn in our failures than in our successes. In my opinion, there is a lesson to learn in each failure we experience.

Lesson #1: Smart Companies Encourage Smart Failures
At Charles Schwab, management makes a clear distinction between a noble failure and a stupid failure. While the company does not allow the idea of an acceptable failure to permeate its operations, it does allow for mistakes to be made, where they are not made in vain.

Important "Lessons Learned” For Leaders, According To Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach
One strategic action that I encourage all my clients to take is to look at any undesired or unplanned outcome of their efforts with a keen eye and a mindset toward identifying the “lessons learned” from the experience. The strongest and most effective leaders have the ability to commit to identifying and acting upon those “lessons learned.” And I believe leaders take a totally different view of failures that are experienced in their businesses and in their personal lives. The following is a quote from Denis Watley that I believe provides a strong confirmation of my belief about failure. “Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”

The biggest mistakes restaurants make, and why they have a high failure rate
This is one of the most important articles I've written. It's a list on the biggest reasons for failure in the restaurant industry. While there are certainly other issues that can lead to failure, these are the most common.

What’s the worst word in Business? FAILURE!
What’s the worst word in Business? FAILURE! No one likes failure or those who have failed. Business is supposed to be about success, making profits, achieving objectives, going places and hopefully having fun! But being in business also means taking risks and making judgements that can and sometimes do go wrong. And hitting that brick wall of failure, sometimes when you least expect it; can be very painful both financially and personally.

Expatriate Selection – The $1 Million Man (or Woman)
We have checked out a lot of great talent development ideas in this blog; however, the other side of being a successful talent developer is understanding what causes talent failure. One of the most expensive areas of talent failure is with expatriates! Expatriate failure is the premature return home of an expatriate manager. Did you know that between 16% and 40% of all American expatriates assigned to developed countries, fail to complete their assignments. Even worse-almost 70% of Americans assigned to developing countries return home early. Each expatriate failure can cost the organization between $250,000 and $1 million.

Turning Failure into Success
An important characteristic all small business owners should possess is tolerance for failure. Failure is negative only when you take it for what it is, a failure. But if you learn from one failed project or venture in order to create a new and improved project the next time around, failure can be the best thing that ever happens to you. While it might sound crazy, operating a small business successfully is a learning process and part of that process is failing from time to time.

Failure Is An Option
Too many operate on the notion that failure is bad. Learn how to use failure as a competitive advantage to improve results and reach your goals.
