MISSED WARNING SIGNS OF WORKPLACE VIOLENCE IN FORT HOOD AND ORLANDO SHOOTINGS

The tragedy at Fort Hood and the mass shootings the following day in Orlando demonstrate all too vividly how missed warning signs can lead to violence in the workplace. Perhaps if the warning signs present in both of these cases had been noticed by those involved these unfortunate incidents of workplace violence could have been avoided. Employers need to be aware of what the warning signs are and how to handle them. They also need to draft workplace violence prevention policies as well as provide workplace violence prevention training to their employees. The training will help employees understand what they should be on the lookout for, the resources in the workplace that can help employees who demonstrate the warning signs and methods to make the workplace safer for all employees.

Yes Virginia! There is more to e-procurement than software! (Part 1)

| My recent post on the series of interviews I had with Ariba garnered considerable interest and feedback. By far the most interesting (and insightful) comments came from the Commonwealth of Virginia. What was compelling about the Virginia response was their willingness to provide a perspective from what they referred to as the “other side of the fence.” What was refreshing is that the subsequent interview revealed an extremely capable group of people whose passion for procurement was only rivaled by their commitment to a vision. A vision that was centered on gaining a thorough understanding of the processes that defined the Commonwealth’s procurement practice as well as the unique requirements of a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.

Overcoming the challenges of an ineffective RFP process: Improved collaboration through intelligence synchronization (QStrat Profile)

| I have had close to 30 reader responses to my recent posts on the utilization of the RFP or e-tendering process for the acquisition of goods and services.
While there have been successful demonstrations of its utilization relative to MERX (MERX: An Evolution to a Broader Market), and of course the Commonwealth of Virginia’s eVA program (Yes Virginia! There is more to e-procurement than software), the majority of respondents do not view the current process has being effective. (Note: links to the above referenced articles are available through the Web Resources section at the conclusion of this post.)

Many Churches do Not Have the Proper Insurance

Being a member of a Church that is improperly insured can lead to a catastrophic outcome if a lawsuit occurs. Concerns arise for Church Insurance, Religious Organization Insurance, Pastoral Liability and Institutional Insurance, regardless of sect. A lawsuit of any size or nature can cripple a religious organizations existence in exorbitant legal fees.

From Boxing to Business: How Foreman Won the Final Rounds

“I told a reporter in 1977 when I made my re-entry into boxing – I stood next to the church, it’s called the Church of Lord Jesus Christ. He asked me what I wanted in the future. I said, 20 years from today to be standing right there in front of that sign being the same human being I am today and you know what, I’ve been successful,” says Foreman. “20 years from today I still want to be that same guy speaking to you, happy, proud of what happened to me. I don’t have anything bad to say about anyone. I have great things to say about my country. I have a beautiful wife who has given me a wonderful family and wonderful kids, so we’re all pretty good. George is fine.”

How do Churches Cope with the Recession?

Some scoffers find it hard to believe that churches not only get through hard times but that they actually grow in members and tithes and “donations” from existing church members. The press has always been antagonistic towards the Christian church so what I say here will probably be fodder for some good laughs for non-believers, but I will say it anyway. It is not their favor that I seek.

Does Recession Hinder Churches?

When people are hurting financially, spiritually, grieving a loss, and going through other hard times, they will often turn to the church for guidance even if they are not church-goers. Most churches have benevolence committees and funds used to help the needy year round but from Thanksgiving on through the holidays, more requests come in for help than any other time of year. With the recession, churches are being hard hit for assistance. Some churches have food pantries, clothes closets; some can help with power bills, pay for medicine and other ways in which the needy require and request help. When church members are hurting from similar experiences, their church families will surround them with love and whatever assistance they might need. My church in the past has paid my heating bill because I got laid off and needed help.
