What is Public Relations
Public relations in industry, especially in start-ups, is not very effective because the discipline of public relations is not understood. It's more that press relations and pushing out news releases. It is the essense of conversation in the market

Public Relations Company
While most entrepreneurs recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy public image, few have the budget to hire a public relations company to do so. But, that does not have to be the end of the story. If nothing else, entrepreneurs are known for their creativity and resourcefulness. So, why not try to do a little PR for yourself?

Advertising and Public Relations
So, you’ve got some extra money to put towards your company and you’re not sure whether to spend it on advertising or public relations. Many entrepreneurs are confused about the difference between the two and which would better suit their needs. Well, if that’s your dilemma then you just answered your own question. In fact, one of the key differences between advertising and public relations is that, with public relations, you are not paying for publicity. From press releases to news conferences, you are doing whatever it takes to get your company out there. Sure, you could hire a professional public relations company to handle your account, but even their main task would be to try and get as much free publicity for your company as possible.

Smart Marketers Integrate Public Relations Into Their Business-to-Business
In my experience, B-to-B marketers don’t even think about public relations until the marketing program is already formulated. By then it’s too late. That’s because public relations professionals can look at marketing programs and discern program elements that aren’t immediately apparent. Public relations professionals can see aspects of a marketing program that lend themselves to ideas outside of the mainstream. This is important in positioning of new products or services. Public relations professionals can help create “news,” which can complement other marketing ideas. Public relations, in fact, increasingly leads the branding function.

PR for Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs can benefit more from public relations than anyone else. Why? Every entrepreneur has a story and effective public relations comes down to one thing, effective story telling. Through effective PR you become the news and with that comes credibility and validation. You not only reach your target market, you’re positioned as an expert. And, once you start garnering media placement, you can use the Internet to amplify your coverage. You can use social media and Internet marketing techniques to take your PR campaign to a whole new level.

The Gift Of Receiving
Every family has one. That one person who shoulders all the family burdens, keeps the family secrets and cleans up the family messes. The one who is everyone’s sounding board and shoulder to cry on. The one who remembers all the holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. The one around whom the family always gathers. In my family, it’s my grandma. She has been the rock in my family for as long as anyone can remember.

Feelings of Entitlement
It is difficult for most kids who are working in the family business to not have some feelings of entitlement. After all, the main reason most entrepreneurs’ start their own business is to provide for their families. Once that is secure, thoughts of creating a legacy and passing the business from generation to generation become a natural progression for most founders, even though statistics show that business failure is alarming in second and third generation leadership. In fact, The Family Business Institute reports that only 12% of family businesses survive the third generation. Feelings of entitlement are not necessarily a bad thing. It’s the attitude of the owner’s child that really matters.

What Are Your Dreams Waiting For?
Thank God for hard-charging, high-flying cadets like my niece. We need her out there, soaring into the wild blue yonder... and we also need entrepreneurs in every family, with their feet firmly planted on the ground and their dreams free to fly through the heavens. When the predicted crash has come and gone, the entrepreneurs in every family will be the ones who make our nation soar again....

The 2 Most Prominent Entrepreneurial \"Show-Stoppers\"
Procrastination – not bad business plans, lack of start-up money, unexpected family growth or poor marketing – is the number one reason why “aspiring entrepreneurs” never end up morphing into “entrepreneurs.”

Why PR is a smart bet in any start-up budget
Attention entrepreneurs: if you only have room for one item in your marketing plan, don’t just think about inserting a public relations strategy. Do it!
