How to Identify The Real Leaders Out There Among Us
How can you know a real leader when you see one? What do real leaders do that define them as leaders? Many people may consider themselves leaders, but in reality do not demonstrate principles of leadership and are not leaders at all. In today’s world there are many imposters posing as leaders. In order to assist you in identifying leaders in your company or organization, I have selected seven (7) actions that I believe real leaders take that define them as “real leaders.” Those seven (7) actions are:

We often hear some people referred to as leaders. And sometimes they are called great leaders. What makes a leader or great leader? Great Leaders Turn Adversity into Advantage
As a student of history, and military history in particular, I have always been impressed with the ability of famous leaders to seemingly bounce back from just about any difficulty or adversity. This is also true in the fields of sports, politics and business. In some ways, great leaders are also great survivors. They often thrive on chaos and adversity. No adversity seems too great to prevent them from finding some advantage. While I certainly don’t believe in deliberately creating difficulty, there are nonetheless some principles that you can apply to turn adversity to your advantage.
Giants of the Genre
As part of my research into discovering the secrets of Charisma, I wanted to find four of the world’s best role models - famous people at the top of their game. Although there are thousands of famous people who exude varying degrees of star quality I wanted to find giants of the Charisma genre.
Motivating people -how do leaders do it?
Good leaders expand the horizons of what is possible through a stream of ideas. They make work worthwhile. They go beyond knowledge and skills and evaluate, counsel, and place people using a framework of values and critical-to-work behaviors. They ensure process improvements. Great leaders develop good leaders by investing their expertise and time in people. Such great leaders regenerate their organizations. They are truly regenerative leaders.
Growing Other Leaders
The best leaders understand and accept their mandate to grow other leaders. The reason there are not more excellent leaders in this world is that there are not enough good mentors. This article discusses growing leaders and the concept of mentorship.

Leaders: Get Off Your Butts
My favorite saying is "The highest calling for any leader is to grow other leaders." Observation: There are too few outstanding leaders in this world because of the lack of great mentors to bring them along. Top level leaders are so consumed with trying to optimize performance in a frantic and messy world, that often they do not take the time out to nurture the next generation of leaders. I believe that is a huge mistake.

Leadership with a Small "L"
There have been only a few great leaders in our lifetime. Leaders like Reagan, Churchill, Disney, and Welch to mention a few. They could never have risen to the hieghts they did without the many small "L" leaders that backed them up. It is from the pool of small "L" leaders that the great leaders emerge. The Rise and Rise of Difference Makers
Difference makers are bobbing up everywhere, everyday. They are famous people, and non famous people, just like you and me. To me at least, it seems, that difference makers are making themselves known at an ever increasing rate.
