Head Hotelier in the Making: The Early Years of Isadore “Issy” Sharp
He was just 29 years old when he launched what has become the internationally successful Four Seasons luxury hotel chain. Today, Isadore “Issy” Sharp is recognized as one of Canada’s most successful businessmen, having been inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame and made an Officer of the Order of Canada. Consistently ranked among the best hotels in the world, the Four Seasons earns annual revenues in excess of $200 million. That is no small achievement for a man who knew little stability as a boy, moving 15 times in his first 16 years.

Speak to Me of Love
Dovid Grossman, a coach and father of nine, recently told me that his father and he had fought constantly through his growing up years. Through it all his mother was the referee. Finally when Dovid was 17 years old he sat down with his father and said, “I want to have a close relationship with you.” He was flabbergasted when his father said, “I’ve tried to do that my whole life but I don’t know how.”

The Black Sheep of the Family: Thomas Watson Jr.’s Early Years
When Thomas Watson Jr. stepped into his father’s shoes as president of IBM in 1952, he knew they would be hard ones to fill. Until not long before, Watson Jr.’s life had consisted in large part of drinking and partying. IBM had always been a part of his life, but only in the context of his father’s job. Was he ready to take the reins of this multinational company? Could he break out from his father’s shadow and create his own legacy?

Do Not Do This at Home
Well ladies and gents, I have once again been humbled. This happened last Saturday. Please don't try this at home. My Father-in-law called and wanted to take our 5 year old to the carnival. I was going to take him, but my Father-in-law wanted my...

The Value of Your Word
Dear Jane, Recently, I broke a promise to a colleague and didn’t complete my part of a project on time. Now she says she can’t trust me anymore. I think she’s overreacting, especially because I told her the reasons I was late. What else can I do? My 79-year-old mother received a letter from the Austrian Government a few weeks ago. You see, my mother, along with her family and many other Jews in Vienna, was forced to flee when the Nazis invaded in 1938. She was just 10 but she remembers clearly the name of the Nazi Commissar, Anton Kaiser, who stormed her family’s home and forced her father to sign over the deed to their apartment, her father’s life insurance policy, his business, and all his possessions.

Why Most Training Doesn't Work
47 years ago my father died of a massive coronary, a heart attack. Why my father died at such a young age of 35 is an altogether different story and may be of interest to many of you – especially those involved in the procuring or delivering training to your employees.

Lesson #1: Work Hard and Plan for Your Dreams
When Johnson was a young boy, he would frequently visit his father at the General Motors plant where he worked. “I would sit in the chair behind the desk and dream I was the CEO,” he says. But it was Johnson’s father who told him that he had to do more than just dream about what he wanted; he had to work hard for it.

My Father's Leadership
Today's decline of the social structures in America that hold families, corporations and other institutes together is largely attributed to ineffective leaders. As I reflect on the importance of quality leadership, I think of my father, Johnson Kituku Musoo. My father is a living testimony that what you don't have should not stop you from achieving what you want. His mother died before he turned ten, leaving him with a younger brother and sister to care for. I learned about his struggles from other people. I never heard him complain--although I once saw him cry, wishing that his mother was still alive.

LEADERSHIP IS PERFORMANE NOT POSITION
is never position or power or star on your sleeves and cap on your head and multi colour printed visiting card or revolving chair. It is always regardless of power. Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther king are the examples of leadership. Even in home you are able to distinguish difference between power and authority. Father most of the time lead with fear and mother lead with love. Father is a power center but mother is an authority. Leaders are authorities. They lead with WALK AND TALK formula, that's why they do not need power or position. Leadership is not moving in an open car and receiving salutes from the citizens or civilians but making those people ready to die for you.

Finding Motivation Shouldn’t Take Extraordinary Measures
Although some movies miss the mark and aren't very interesting, this movie did an excellent job! The movie was a story about a father who had two children with Pompe Disease which is very similar to Muscular Dystrophy. The muscles deteriorate due to the inability of the body to break down the sugars. According to the movie the life expectancy of a child with the disease is only about 9 years. I was on the verge of tears several times as I watched the parents struggle with the fact: two of their children were nearing that magic age of 9, while they were desperately seeking a cure for this horrible disease. The father was constantly doing research just trying to find some hope. He ultimately identified a grumpy old scientist who had a theory which gave him hope.
