Smart Cents: How J.C. Penney Built An Empire
| |
| Penney once said that there were no secrets to his success, but that the principles of business were simple: “In retailing, the formula happens to be a basic liking for human beings, plus integrity, plus industry, plus the ability to see the other fellow’s point of view.” In 1920, the J.C. Penney Company had over 197 stores along the West coast. Just nine years later, that number had grown to more than 1,400 stores across the country; new stores had been opening at a rapid rate of almost one every three days. Part 3 - Relationships and service
| |
| It is absolutely essential for any manager to communicate with and to understand what motivates each individual staff member. This brings relationships to the fore as the most important factor for any manager in any business. We are not just caged canaries or a selection of laboratory rats. We are thinking, feeling human beings, trying to be just that – human beings - not just human doers. We live to express ourselves creatively and to grow and develop each in our own unique way. |

The Fear of Offending your Prospect will hold you back
| |
| We are all concerned about what people think of us; our family, our friends, our fellow business members and the people we prospect in our business. Have you ever observed in the gym how people are looking around at everyone and wondering what he/she thinks of me in my designer shorts, Nike runners and recently tanned legs from their latest vacation instead of focusing on their routine? This is human weakness for wanting to be accepted or approved by everybody. Guess what. None of that matters because it is what you think of yourself, your self love is what counts and matters most and regardless of anyone else's opinion it is your self- belief that will lead you to success.

Government Takeover Is Never A Good Idea
| |
| I have argued that there are two sorts of people out there (and inside each of us): the Entrepreneur, who is self-reliant, personally responsible and lives by a sense of obligation to his fellow human... and the Victim, who relies on others to solve his problems, and lives by a sense of entitlement. If, as a society, we lean toward Victimhood, we're in trouble. If we can give Entrepreneurship the upper hand, we might just solve this mess.
