Finding Success in the Great Outdoors: How Bean Lived his Dream
| |
| When Bean died in 1967, the executives at the company he had founded were not sure if they should publicize his death. Bean’s attachment to the company was such that most customers believed he himself still personally tested each product and tended to each of their orders. His successors feared that if people knew he was gone, that perception would be eroded and the company would lose ground. They considered keeping his death a secret, until a television news show got wind and broke the story. That was the importance that Bean, at 94, still had on his company. But just how did this outdoorsman create one of the most successful and innovative mail-order catalogue companies of his time? |

Kings of the Road: The Beginnings of the Harley-Davidson Empire
| |
| They were simply two young boys fooling around with motors in their garage; William Harley and Arthur Davidson were childhood friends who loved fishing, but hated the amount of time it took to get to their favourite fishing spots. And so, they decided to create a motorized bicycle that would help them get to where they wanted to go faster. Their youthful experiments laid the foundation for what would later become one of the largest and last remaining mass producers of motorcycles in the U.S. Today, with over $1.5 billion in annual sales last year, Harley-Davidson remains an American icon and an example of entrepreneurship at its finest. |

Consistent Positive Action Creates Huge Momentum
| |
| As I laced up my shoes this morning to head out and tackle my first action focused goal, I spent some time reviewing the past seven days. It's hard to believe it's already been a week since I set and began to achieve these daily action goals.
I can honestly tell you it is 99% easier to tackle these goals today than it was in the first couple of days. If you recall, I was having a bit of a challenge with the "voices" trying to encourage me to make excuses as to why I didn't have to accomplish those goals.
Well, I am happy to report to you that those voices have all but left. The consistency of achieving my daily action goals, has made it much easier, and created momentum that's sending me off on a very positive path. |

Build Traffic to Your Website through Blogging
| |
| If you've ever been deep sea fishing I'm sure you remember how there were far more fishing poles with lines in the water than there were people on the boat. This helped increase the chances that each person on the trip enjoyed the awesome experience of hooking and reeling in a nice big fish.
You should employ this same strategy when you are looking to build traffic to your website.
The most effective way to do it is to expand your digital footprint by increasing the amount of content that links back to your website from other websites. |

Fishing Lessons
| |
| Recently, I had the opportunity to spend an afternoon fishing with my father. This is something I highly recommend. He and I spent a lot of time fishing when I was growing up, but now we seem to get out once or twice a year. I find that the fishing is irrelevant. The key is the outing itself and the time we spend together, as well as the lessons I learn.
Fishing is simply an excuse to enjoy an afternoon outdoors with someone you love and respect. Fishing somehow makes it legitimate. If you were to take an afternoon off work, stand at the lakeshore, and talk, you would be considered lazy or unproductive. But if you hold a fishing rod during the process, it makes it all somehow legitimate.

Are you fishing or hoping for a free boat ride?
| |
| This morning Joanne and I were talking to some locals on a tiny island where we’re hanging out for a few days. We saw a fishing boat come in right after a pretty violent storm. There were probably 20 guys hanging around the edges of this very small boat. No one is paid for their services – they all fish and keep track of their catch. Typically, they pay the captain and owner of the boat 2 pounds of fish per day for the privilege of fishing from his boat. |
