Sales Training – Remember Your First Sales Success

The first recognized automobile show in the United States was held at New York City’s Madison Square Garden New York in November, 1900. Much like a first car show, your first sale was in the planned approach and applied training mode. What was your first sale like? If you have yet to make your first sale, then that is your goal.

Home-based Business: Rustic Pillar Candles

Rustic pillar candles make a good additional niche for a home-based business. Unlike the original pillar candles, a rustic candle is more attractive with its textured surface, which ranges from lightly pearlized to a rough, leathery, and pitted surface. Rustic candles have lesser slick and finished than candles that are normally seen on display.

Is It Just Me?

A client asked out loud a question that, I’m sure, many of us have thought in our own minds. “Is it just me? Why am I so sensitive? Why do I have so much mind chatter? Why are my feelings so on the surface? Is everyone like that?”

Employee Freedom, A New "Old" Paradigm

In 1994 Jim Belasco and Ralph Stayer wrote Flight of the buffalo which focuses on learning to let employees lead. In 2009 Brian Carney and Isaac Getz wrote Freedom, Inc. which focuses on how to free your employees and let them lead your business to higher productivity, profits and growth. These are two examples of books that explain why a "flat organization" is better and how to build or transform an organization with it. As Gen-Y begins to take over leadership in the majority of American business, these concepts of employee empowerment, self-management and flat structure will be their demand. They care more about work-life balance than money, and they just might be able to salvage the mess we boomers have made of things. Success in the 21st century demands employers embrace this new "old" paradigm.

Why do clients really leave you? It may not be what you think

When a client is upset with you…when your spouse is angry at you when your teenager is ranting about some way you’ve wronged her again it very often is not what it appears to be. Yet, in our attempt to minimize conflict, we immediately react to the outburst and attempt to fix the problem they describe. But often, the outburst is just the surface wound, there is much more beneath the surface that needs to be tended to first if we ever expect to properly repair the problem.

My sales team is flat and de-motivated. Got any inspiration?

When a sales team is flat this is usually a symptom of flat leadership and lack of support. The team members are not engaged and more than likely not getting the sales results and feeling devalued as a consequence.

A Tip About Paint

Advantages range from a softer, more luxurious appearance to improved touch up abilities. One of the greatest features of flat finish paint is its’ use on ceilings. Since no ceiling is perfect, I advise my students to always use flat paint on ceilings as it will help conceal irregularities which can be highly visible in certain light. Since ceilings rarely get touched, a cheap grade of flat is perfectly fine to use as burnishing, staining or other weak features won’t likely occur.

What To Do With Cracks in Stucco

My tip today has to do with surface cracks in the stucco substrate. They may be unsightly, but short of living on a hill in an active seismic region, cracks shouldn’t really mean much to you. Anything less than the thickness of a credit card can easily be filled and that’s that! Remember that most building codes today mandate a waterproof vapor barrier under all stucco, so it is not likely that a simple surface crack will result in water intrusion.

Faulty Laptop Touchpads and How to Fix Them

To be as sleek and stylish as is possible laptops contain a touchpad which operates like a computer mouse but is static as opposed to a mouse must be shifted over the computer mouse mat or flat work surface. However, it regularly fails either in part, or often it can stop working completely. Thankfully, you may hook up an external computer mouse to the laptop if your touchpad fails. Nevertheless, unless the defective touchpad is disabled or turned off both of them could possibly interact. The mouse pointer could judder or make very small motions that can cause the cursor to jump between text letters.
