Advertising Effectively - 6 Steps to Effective Advertising
It’s easy to see how peoples media consumption has been split, fractured and fragmented. Essentially, we still have 24 hours per day. But we now have multiple forms of communication vying for our readership, listenership, or participation. What this means for you – as an advertiser – is that you need to be very careful about who you are advertising to, and which media to use.

Delegate Successfully - The Four Level Rule
# Delegation is a subtle, yet vital art in business. It can work for you - but only if you use it well. And use it for the benefit of all involved. There is a vital 'ground rule' that you must accommodate. And that's around a clear 'level of authority' to act...

Integrated Marketing
Whatever does guerrilla marketing have in common with a boomerang? If you throw a stick, it flies about 30 feet. Frank Donnellan once threw a boomerang 377 feet, longer than football field. A boomerang uses gravity and air resistance to aid its flight. Guerrilla marketing uses other weapons to aid its flight. Single-weapon marketing has nothing to aid its flight.

Hurtling towards the next big birthday
A personal reflection coming up to birthday time. What prompted this article? Air-journeys provide invaluable thinking space. This article started life on a flight to Helsinki in early June. The two-hour flight from Heathrow provided me with just about the right amount of time for a brief helicopter-view of my world.

The Missing Link: How People Can Know Everything about Customer Service and Still Not Be Able to Do It
I had a strange experience at an airline counter recently. My international flight was cancelled, and when I went to the counter to find out what to do next, I watched three customer service agents discuss the flight they were going to put me on much later that day. They went about printing tickets, writing me meal vouchers, looking at the computer...all without any of them speaking directly to me or even telling me what they were doing.

Practicing Assertiveness
Very early Sunday morning I was waiting in line at Montreal’s airport. Despite the early hour, the airport was crowded and the lines at each of the security points were the longest I had ever seen them. People were patiently waiting; however there was an older gentleman who became quite distressed as he realized he would miss his flight due to the slow movement of the line. He attracted the attention of one of the officials, however they merely shrugged unhelpfully. Then two European men in their mid 30’s went to the aid of the older man, they asked all the people in the queue ahead of him would they mind if he jumped ahead of them to catch his flight. Of course no one minded and the man went quickly through security.

A is for Advertising
When I first started Exceptional Thinking, just about everybody told me that I should do some advertising and to be honest, that’s what I thought I should do too. After all, that’s what businesses do to promote their products and services don’t they? So, dutifully I advertised. First in a business magazine that resulted in nothing, then in a local community magazine – again nothing and then finally (I was learning my lesson at this point) in the local paper. Nothing there either.

Fight or Flight: It’s Now Optional
The Fight or Flight response was an important gauge of threat and a vital survival tool for the cavemen over a million years ago. This primitive instinct is still present in all of us, even though, it doesn’t carry the same function in the 21st century. Through specific steps, we can learn to manage this instinct to our advantage. If managed successfully, the Fight or Flight instinct can become an important tool in overcoming stress and daily pressures.
