Lesson #2: Develop a Customer-Focused Philosophy
| |
| “Let’s say you decide to buy a car – red, two-door,” says Dell. “All sold out – four months to get one – but a really convincing salesperson talks you into the blue, four-door and probably the rust-proofing too. The salesperson gets a nice commission, when she actually sold you a car you didn’t want. Then, the dealer sends a signal back to the factory that blue four-doors are selling really well – build some more!” Contrary to this, Dell’s philosophy is that, “We’ll listen, and we’ll respond…It’s about the customer. It’s that simple.” |

I Know How to Do This!
| |
| I thought I had pre-paved a happy-go-lucky attitude towards being a mother. I had intended to let my son, Lucky, follow his own path and my job was to get out of the way. Ahem! Well, my little controller side came out in full force in ways I had not expected.
I started out by trusting that Lucky would find his own sleeping pattern. That didn't work. So, when he was four months old I swung to the opposite side of the issue. My child would forever more be on a sleeping schedule. This potentially could've worked if I were more relaxed about it. But I wasn't. I was in huge conflict with my mate, Steve, about my schedule and method of putting Lucky to bed. |

| Are you facing the possibility of foreclosure? Knowing the State law is the key to helping you through the process. A Lesson on Success from Bruce Jenner
| |
| Bruce Jenner seemed to have it all. He was the 1976 Olympic decathlon champion who seemed too All-American to be true. He was the man on the Wheaties box and on the cover of Sports Illustrated. But in 1980, by his own account, you would never have recognized him.
I was living in the hills outside of Los Angeles, in a one- bedroom bungalow-where the dirty dishes filled the kitchen sink and a dried-out Christmas tree from the holidays four months ago sat in a clump beside the door-serving as the only attempt at interior decoration. I'd lost between fifteen and twenty pounds and years of physical inactivity had left me looking thin. I probably needed a haircut, but living alone with nobody to talk to, I would have been the last to know. |

Who Is Likely To Succeed In Business?
| |
| I am in a privileged position in the work I do. I come across people at all stages of their business lives and so have a good awareness of which people will succeed, or not.
I am surprised regularly by people about to start a business. When we sit down to discuss their plans, I find out they don't have any! They have a vague dream about running their own business and a few ideas to try to get them going but what about in 3 months time, 6 months, 12 months or even longer down the line? No idea! We will see how it goes! |

Develope a marketing calendar
| |
| All businesses should have a marketing calendar!
So what is a marketing calendar?
During the course of the year you should track where your enquiries come from and which ones lead to customers. At the same time you should record which month the enquiries come in to your business so that you can build a picture of which months are your busiest and which ones are the least busy.
Once you have compiled this data you can put this into the form of a calendar and then use this to your businesses advantage. By knowing which months in the year you already get most enquiries; you can then plan further advertising in those months to really capitalise on the months in which your customers are looking to buy. |

What Happens When Salespeople Don't Meet Expectations?
| |
| The game and the news are quickly forgotten and don't impact your life unless you bet on the outcome of the game or happen to be the leading story on the news. When your salespeople focus too much of their time and resources on a large opportunity and it doesn't materialize, you can lose 6-12 months of productivity from them. Not only that, your forecasts fall short, your budget goes to hell, and you could have a frustrated, demotivated salesperson on your hands. The worst part is if you have a long sales cycle, say 8-12 months, and the salesperson devoted most of his time and energy to this opportunity for 8-12 months, it will take an additional 8-12 months before the pipeline will produce new, meaningful revenue. |
