A Retail Holiday Tale
I had my own interesting retail experience the other day, which I think you might find entertaining. In keeping with holiday tales it may be enlightening too. I like to keep tabs on the current retail environment, and also as a consumer I enjoy going to stores such as Costco to see what interesting values their good buyers have found. The point I am making in this article is that successful retailers take the appropriate actions to deal with the environment at hand, rather than deciding it is out of their control.

Free samples work to bring customers in the door. The challenge for any company is to get the word out that you are offering those free samples. Depending on the location of the store, sometimes it pays to have a greeter standing at the front door handing samples out to consumers as they walk by. This technique works well in shopping malls and in other high traffic areas. It's no secret that consumers love free things and will often come into the store simply to pick up an advertised giveaway.
