Technology is So Passé … It’s All About Fashion
| |
| We looked at the stuff at CES...at CTIA...at NAB...at all the shows and media
coverage. There was an epiphany (gotta love that word). The PC/CE/communications/content
industry isn't about technology...it's fashion! It's what's hot...what's not.
Notebooks...no netbooks...no smartphones...no ebooks...no tablets. Local storage...centralized
storage...personal storage...cloud storage. Your next product, service can be
hot, cold, dead in a month. We flip faster than skirts rise and fall. There are
no bold , ah ha predictions here but at least you'll know why you change phones,
computers (whatever) more often than you change cars. What's it gonna be tomorrow?
Don't ask the buying public(s)..invent it!!!! -- borrowed from John Doerr (come
on what do you think fashion is? Right creative borrowing!).

For Kids, It’s Just Seamless Communications
| |
| Keeping pace in the industry is tough. Especially when you have to constantly go to your kids to ask for assistance. Of course now that they're teenagers they're old and often have to go next door and ask the new up-n-comers. It was bad enough when we used the DVR - which is so yesterday now that anything worthwhile is available online 24x7. But now it's assistance with our smartphone (like help me find the app we just downloaded), our tablet (ok iPad) WiFi syncing - forgive us but gawd we love the battery life, WiFi searching on the net-ready LCD screen(s), constant patches/updates for our notebook(s) and home server. Can't wait for tomorrow to see what new thing we don't know, don't really want to know but will have to learn just to stay in the game.

Turn Your Do-List Into A Game
| |
| The do-list is a burden we carry around, day in, day out. When we have nearly completed it, we or someone else dumps more "do" on it. It's a game you never win.
Turning your do-list into a game, by making it a scorecard, shifts the paradigm. Now it becomes a game - a game which you can win or lose, a game where you don't win 'em all, a game which is both challenging and entertaining. What a difference! |

The Dawn of Pokemon: Tajiri Launches His Game
| |
| Tajiri was no stranger to video games. In the early 1980s, he had won a contest sponsored by Sega that involved making a video game. With his “Game Freak” colleagues, Tajiri had also created his first video game, Quinty, which was published by Namco. But in 1991, Tajiri discovered something that he thought was revolutionary: the Game Boy. When he saw two boys playing a game together, connecting their Game Boys by a link cable, Tajiri immediately began to think of the possibilities. “I saw Game Boy when it was first released,” says Tajiri. “The idea for Pokémon clicked in my mind. The basic idea for Pokemon seemed a good fit for Game Boy.” |

Hard Core Gamers Taking a Back Seat
| |
| It seems so innocent, the way the video game developers suck you in. First it is an increasingly aggressive game system pricing (cheaper!). Then comes the rave reviews from "experts" and fun, exciting packaging...packages almost look wholesome and heroesque don't they? Then
you begin the play. Casually for a few minutes at first. Then what they heck just an hour. Suddenly the sun is coming up. So you get another game or different version for your portable system or smartphone (just to stay sharp of course). Before we knew it our wife and daughter were beating us...regular! It is so humiliating. There goes all of the fun for another male bastion...sheess !!! |

Are You In The Game
| |
| Have you ever noticed that it is the people in the stands who supposedly know everything about the game? They give all kinds of advice, but you don't see them actually in the game. It is as if the game exists only for them. Many will say that yes, the game does exist for the fans, for without the fans, where would the game be? I'd like to throw a wrench into that argument and say that, yes the fans are an important part of the game, but without the players, the game wouldn't exist either. |
