It’s All in the Presentation!
That’s the title to the book that Al Frink says he will someday write, summing up his business philosophy and approach to sales and marketing. I had the unique opportunity in my early 20’s when in sales, to travel with Al and make sales calls throughout some of the smallest towns in the Midwest. We developed sort of a Father/Son relationship as he offered me a level of advice and support much undeserved considering the size of my territory.

Diamonds Are A Cereal Marketer's Best Friend
When C.W. Post started a small business in 1895 with his first batch of "Postum" (breakfast cereal) he probably did not foresee his company getting into the diamond business. The cereal company has "followed a path of delicious innovation, creating cereals that have defined the breakfast experience for generations of families" and now it has literally put a twist on its "Shreddies" product by offering the cereal in the shape of diamonds rather than squares.

The creativity/business conundrum
The concept of creativity is an abstract one, at best. The dictionary tells you that when you ask for creativity, you can expect to see “the ability to use the imagination to develop new and original ideas or things, especially in an artistic context.” This is all well and good if you’re in the market for something astonishing to frame and hang on your wall, but in the context of business design it falls somewhat short of adequate.

Fast Forward...
I am amazed at how frequently my friend Dr. Joyce Mills’ comment comes to mind: “When you know where you are you will know where you are going!” In my message for you today, it is imperative that you have that kind of clarity. I imagine it is easy for you to say, “I am here in this state today, but want to be in a very different one over the course of the next two years.” The clarity about where you are will help you decide the steps necessary to get where you are going!

Increase Sales by Giving Them What They Want
Customers are looking for very specific solutions to their problems and if you can provide it you’ll struggle less, save on marketing expense and sell more. The market place is becoming more “niched”. By that I mean that there is so much competition and there are so many choices that people look for very specific solutions. For example, if you need heart surgery would you go to a general surgeon or a general practitioner? Of course not, you’d go to a heart surgeon.

Marks and Spencer, India Strategy Review - Important Lessons for Retailers
Smriti Mehrotra, vice president of a media channel, works in close proximity to the Marks & Spencer’s store in Phoenix Mills, Mumbai. Being a compulsive shopper and a brand loyalist, Smriti is exactly the kind of customer, who will eventually increase sales at M&S. However, she rarely visits the store unless she needs to buy gift hampers for special occasions. “I can never manage to get my size at the M&S store. Most of their apparels are not stylish and are ill fitting. They offer no variety and the same dress will be repeated if five different colours,” complains Mehrotra.
