Community Involvement the Wrong Way
| |
| There are wrong ways to demonstrate community involvement as well. If you volunteer to work on a committee but are never available for meetings, or if you sponsor a little league team and don't show up for games, you're proving yourself to be crass and superficial, probably sucking up the community to get business instead of working for it for altruistic reasons. Consumers are more sophisticated than ever these days. People know the difference between serving the community and serving yourself. If you're not willing to devote honest time and energy to your community, you're better off skipping this weapon and leaving it to the real guerrillas in your community. I just hope for your sake that none are your direct competitors. |

CARBON EMISSIONS ARE LIKE CHOLESTEROL
| |
| In seminars around the world, I have talked about how carbon emissions are analogous to “fat” in a
diet… It is something we don’t want, but is often an unavoidable part of our daily lives. We can
accumulate fat on our bodies in many ways, but mostly through “bad” habits. Although challenging, we
can change our habits and slowly get rid of the fat. The same is true with carbon emissions… fossil
fuels have been our “bad” habit. We can consciously wean ourselves off in a planned manner, or we
may have to hastily quit due to supply shortages, energy and/or carbon price spikes, climate impacts,
wars or any number of other reasons which we cannot yet see. |

COLD TO GOLD GETTING THE MOST FROM COLD CALL SET MEETINGS
| |
| By John Doerr
Like King Midas, as I was told, everything he touched turned to gold.
- Joseph Simmons and Daryl McDaniels
“If I could just get a meeting with my target prospects I am certain I could close five (or six or eight) out of every ten.”
How many of you think the same thing? You know that when you get in front of the prospect you can wow them. Every time a lead comes into the firm and you go on the sales meeting, it's a slam dunk. Made-in-the-shade. Can of corn. You know you'll get the gig.

Work Skills Transcend Cultures Work Habits May Not
| |
| Since Chally is strongly established internationally, we're often asked what has to be done to alter the testing for different cultures around the world. For the past six years, we have been tracking performance on a Chally assessment versus actual performance on the job across many countries. Our goal was to develop a research database that would highlight differences that were based on geography or culture. For our comparisons internationally, we chose geographic, cultural, and economic regions that were very different. These included England, Sweden, Denmark, India, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, Mexico and French Canada.
The results were somewhat surprising, but very logical. Our research results provided clear evidence that the skill and competency scores are stable and equally applicable across cultures all over the world. |

Sales Management --Unmask the Confusion of Territory Account Assignment
| |
| When I carried a bag, sales territories were defined geographically. Of course, that was in the old days. My daughter calls it the days of Black & White Television. In reality, color television came out when I was still only seven years old. But in the days when I was a field sales rep, the 70’s & 80’s, a sales person got a chunk of geography and you were told this is your patch of dirt. You go out and you farm the territory and you build the business. However, for the most part, if you are going to grow your territory it has to grow by taking market share from the competition. Territories today need to go from being geographically defined to being key account assignment defined. So, in other words, when you use the term, ‘territory’ today, you’re not referring to a patch of dirt. |
