Avoiding The Activity Trap: Effective Problem Solving
Great HR professionals solve problems. They size up situations, identify solutions and then take action. But sometimes we need to slow the process down. We need to first understand what the REAL problem is before we do anything. There are times when taking no action is the best route. We aren't paid for activity.

SEO - Back to Basics
A German Company Sistrix recently analyzed roughly 10,000 web sites to see if there were any common elements to reaching the top of the SERPS in Google. Here are some of the results that they found in their research.

10 Commandments of Leadership-Tone Setting
One of the lead questions that we routinely ask in leadership training programs is “who do your people work for?” Routinely the common response is the company name or a division within that company or even the parent organization. Occasionally we will hear a response about working for themselves painting a picture of self-motivated team members. Rarely we will hear the correct answer that they work for you.

How to Create an Effective Microsite
A microsite is an individual web page or group of web pages which are used to support, enhance, or supplement the primary or parent website. The main difference between a microsite and the parent site is its focus on one main topic or theme compared to the broader scope of the parent site. Often, microsites are used to target new markets or to create focused content for niche audiences (sometimes geographic specific). Offering companies a chance to add value to their brand by informing, entertaining, engaging, and interacting, microsites can also be optimized with keywords for better search engine rankings and click through rates.

Audi Franchise to further expand in India; eyes 30% of luxury car market, through franchising
Buoyed by overwhelming response, German luxury car maker Audi would increase its car dealership franchise network in the country and aims to grab 30 per cent share of the luxury car market by 2011, a company official said.

Be in Business for yourself, but not by yourself
You want to start your own business, but are worried because you don't know what will happen if you run into a problem. Buying into a franchise gives you a stable parent company to utilize if you ever need anything. Here, I discuss why it is best to buy into a franchise rather than starting from scratch.

Leadership or Friendship or Both
I believe I can say from my parent’s generation that there was almost a “hands-off” approach between the leader in a company and the employees; and most employees seemed to want the separation. I also know when I first entered the world of management this atmosphere was still in place. I’ve watched it gradually change over the years.

One Man And His Word
About five years ago, my father passed away. I still think about him almost every day, but especially this time of the year when his anniversary rolls around. He was well known and liked in the community where he lived with my mother in New Jersey. Fiercely proud of both his German and Irish ancestry, he always walked in the Annual West Orange St. Patrick’s Day Parade wearing a green tie and a German hunting hat. With my sister and brothers, I will sometimes reminisce about the small idiosyncrasies that made him our dad...

Prom and Underage Drinking: A Parent's Guide to Keeping Kids Safe
As a parent, providing alcohol to a teen is never a good idea. Youth who reported that a parent or a friend’s parent had provided alcohol at a party within the past year reported drinking more on their last drinking occasion and were twice as likely to have consumed alcohol within the past 30 days and to have engaged in binge drinking.

Freelancing From Home with Small Children
As wonderful as it sounds, working from home to spend more time with your children is more akin to torture at times. Not that you don't love that angel who needs to be held all but thirteen minutes of the day or the toddler who always manages to test his favorite crayon on the wall when you're trying to make a phone call, but there are unique challenges to trying to parent and hold down a career at the same time. It is possible to work from home with small children, but like so many things as a parent, this too shall require flexibility.

DON’T SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT!
When your grown child has a child, he/she can automatically switch his/her own dynamics from child to adult to parent with all that it entails. This unfolds due to changing circumstances that a younger person is faced with on the road to full-fledged adulthood. When your child has a child, he/she is forced to step into another role whereas you stay in the same place, essentially. You become a grandparent but are not saddled with all of the responsibility of having to care for your own child. You continue to see your grown child as your child and perhaps not the parent that they’ve become, with all the angst and worry that comes with it.
