A crisis is a terrible thing to waste
| |
| So what if the economy is hitting a rough spot? Once you’ve invested more in your customers, cut off the dead limbs, watered the good ones, and given your employees a chance to really shine your company is going to be stronger.
If you have cash, there are great deals to be had, if you have good credit, banks are still lending. Everybody is willing to negotiate. It is a buyer’s market.
Warren Buffet said “be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.” Right now high quality talent is plentiful, there are many exceptional talents looking for work and many that will work at rates favorable to your clients’ new reality. Start the hunt, hire people you couldn’t afford 12 months ago, whether full time, part time or as a contractor. |

Just One More Time – Breaking Rocks to Make a Sale
| |
| Several years ago when we had our new home built in Las Vegas, we immediately put in a pool and hot tub. Of course the pool company convinced us that we needed a waterfall as an added design element for the pool. Several more thousands of dollars later, we agreed. When they got to the point when they started to build the waterfall, a very large crane showed up in the street adjacent to our house, along with a flatbed truck with these gigantic red boulders. I asked the project manager what that was all about, and he said, “That’s your waterfall.” I said, “No way do we want a giant pile of rocks,” in which he replied, “Just be patient and you’ll see.” So the crane lowered these small mountains into our yard and shortly afterward a crew of waterfall builders showed up. |

The Scarcity Shortage
| |
| From four years ago:
What's worth more: a pile of gold or a pile of salt? Throughout history, many people have chosen the salt. Gold is pretty, but you can't live without salt, and when it was more scarce than gold, it became valuable enough to use as a currency itself. (The word "salary" is even related to the Latin for "salt.") |

McDonald’s Middle East Franchise reports a 3.4 percent surge in sales

| McDonald’s has reported a 3.4 percent increase in sales in the Middle East and Africa, reflecting a year of strong worldwide growth in which the fast food giant served 60 million customers a day - two million more than in 2008. Growth in the MEA region was greater than that in the US, where sales rose by 2.6 percent. Turnover in Europe grew by 5.2 percent in 2009, far exceeding the average global rise in sales of 3.8 percent. News of the fast food giant’s increasing popularity is likely to raise some concern among professionals gathered at the Arab Health 2010 exhibition, which starts today. |
