No Need To Downsize The American Dream

Personally, I don’t need to watch TV to hear bad news. So, much for the American dream. I hear enough at the grocery store where everyone is talking about all of today’s gloom and doom. It’s everywhere.

One Tough Thing You Need To Do Today

| Are You Avoiding Something Tough?
Hey listen. Been there. I catch myself avoiding things too. Meeting with my accountant at tax-time. Speaking to a supplier I'm not happy with. Saying No to someone who is really nice.
The process of selling and marketing can definitely have some tough spots.
Maybe you feel...
• Stuck
• Or not creative
• Or you're dreading making a call to a customer because you've screwed up
My Diva Advice?

Posting relevant comments on blogs is networking

I happen to think that many small business folks would find networking on the web as valuable as networking at, say, the next Chamber event. There are many ways to do networking on the web but I happen to think one of the easiest is to participate in blogs you enjoy by frequently posting relevant content. Blog comment posting is very much like standing around chatting with a group of folks at a networking event (except you don’t have to balance the Swedish meatball plate on your wine glass.)

HalfFULL

When a whole lot of things are not going your way, it can be quite difficult to find a bit of optimism, seemingly impossible, in fact. But hold on, do you remember the old "is the glass half-empty, or half-full" adage? Well, it serves a dual purpose. If you find yourself thinking that "the glass really is half-empty," it serves as a wake up call to the need for an attitude adjustment. On the other hand, if you think "the glass is half-full"--then you've just touched on another of the natural laws, the Law of Polarity. The fact that everything has an equal and exact opposite.

Garber on Business: Business dinner? Don't whine about wine

No longer does the haughty sommelier at Le Cavalier Réstaurant Français glare down his well-trained nose and impatiently finger his goûte-vin as he debates how to intimidate you into buying a more expensive wine -- that is, ahem, to persuade Monsieur to make a better choice. No longer must you fumble through a 28-page wine list, searching for a name you recognize -- any name you recognize, in order to breathe a sigh of relief.

High Price Raises Perception of Quality

In an article in the January 2008 Economist magazine, a study was cited that was done by Dr. Antonio Rangel of the California Institute of Technology. Rangel found that if people are told a wine that they are tasting is expensive, the perception in their brain evolves to increase the quality of the wine they had consumed based on nothing other than higher price meaning a higher quality.

The Wine Giant: How Ernest Gallo Got His Start

Ernest Gallo was not your typical billionaire. Up until the day he died, he insisted on keeping his home number listed in the public phone book; he wanted everyone to be able to find him. But it is exactly traits like that which continue to make this winemaker stand out. Today, the business he started with his brother back in 1933 with just $6,000 in capital remains the leading exporter of California wine, producing some 2.64 million bottles of wine every day.

Access Granted: Stephanie Okereke on the Making of "Through the Glass" Film

| Whether in Nollywood or Hollywood, it is rare to find women, especially Black/African women, in executive film roles such as producers and directors. Nollywood A-list Actress Stephanie Okereke bucks the trend with the debut of her first film called "Through the Glass," in which she wrote, produced and directed. "Through the Glass" is about phobias we have in entering committed relationships. It also cuts to the core by addressing some of the reasons we have such phobias, for example, childhood pain. Okereke recently released a trailer of "Through the Glass" and the response has been lots of excitement and buzz! Amidst all the excitement, Ladybrille caught up with the A-list actress for an exclusive all access granted on the making of "Through the Glass." http://www.throughtheglassmovie.com/

Is Your Glass Half Full or Half Empty?

We often hear people talking about whether someone's glass is half full or half empty, which is really a metaphor for how someone views their life or the world around them. If someone is negative or pessimistic, people might regard them as seeing their glass half empty. When people view their glass as half empty, they are looking at what they don't have instead of what they do. If someone is positive and optimistic, people would say they see their glass as being half full. Half of their glass may be empty, but they choose to look at it as half full. They are seeing what they have instead of what they don't. Which type of person are you? Do you see your glass as half full or half empty?
