How Twitter Made My Website Better
A few weeks ago Chris Brogan published a list of the 100 blog topics that he wished people would cover. One of them was, “How Twitter Improved My Blog,” and I accepted the challenge to write something along these lines. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with Twitter, you can read “The Tao of Twitter,” “Newbies Guide to Twitter,” or “Ode to Twitter.”) Here is my answer to Chris’s request.

Lesson #2: Don’t Dream About Being Good, Dream About Being the Best!
When he was a young boy, struggling with the loss of his father and the difficulties of life in an orphanage, Monaghan spent his time reading biographies of great men who had come before him. Abraham Lincoln, a poor farm boy from Illinois, had used hard work and determination to become the President of the United States. Why couldn’t he do the same, Monaghan wondered? Or in reading Sears catalogues, Monaghan would dream about what it would be like to have a life where he could actually afford everything within its glorious pages.

Allstate Insurance
Founded in 1931, as part of Sears, Roebuck & Co., Allstate Insurance became its own public company in 1993, when it made history with the largest initial public offering ever in the country. Two years later, it became an independent company, and last year, it celebrated its 75th anniversary. Today, based in Northbrook, Illinois, the company has grown into one of the country’s leading personal insurers. More importantly, however, it has also become a model of community involvement and investment, demonstrating the possibilities and power of corporate social responsibility.

Why every business needs to consider generational differences
It turns out that different generations of employees respond to very different management approaches and incentives. Likewise, different generations of consumers respond differently to different marketing messages. Four generations are common in the workforce and consumer market today, and it is important to understand each. This article is indebted to the work of University of Illinois’s Extension Program and their research on engaging generations.

On July 28, 2004, I made my first Blogpost at tompeters.com. The topic was then-Illinois State Senator Barack Obama's speech to the 2004 Democratic Convention in Boston.

Illinois Lemon Law
Illinois lemon law covers new self-propelled vehicle primarily designed for use on public highways with a serious mechanical problem that was purchased or leased in Illinois. The Illinois lemon law states that the mechanical problem should be first reported within the first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Maybe States Could Just Swap Their Senators
See, with SWEEP, Wisconsin and Illinois could actually swap senators. Never mind that voters elected them in different places (heck, when has what the voters wanted ever stood in the way of progressive hope and change?)... what matters is that everybody's drinking beer and voting with people they completely agree with. I'm sure there must be a commensurate number of minority Republican state senators in Illinois who'd be happy to commute to Madison to provide a quorum, and to have some beers with other Republicans....
