The \"Sales Goals Motivate\" Myth
| |
| Many sales professionals, through a lack of experience at setting appropriate sales objectives, set unrealistic goals, which in turn assures their failure long before they even start to execute their plans for achieving them. When they find they are not able to meet the objectives they’ve set, they not only experience the frustration inherent in failing, but many of them also receive criticism and in some cases, punishment from management. |

Punished by rewards
| |
| Punishment and reward proceed from basically the same psychological model, one that conceives of motivation as nothing more than the manipulation of behavior.
As part of my own development and in an attempt to keep my mind as open and fresh as possible, I take to reading all sorts of things. On my current reading list is a very interesting book called “Punished by Rewards” by Alfie Kohn, author, speaker and educator. He writes about the trouble with “gold stars, incentive plans, As, praise and other bribes”. |

| |
| Many web site owners are getting their Google Adsense account terminated when they have done nothing wrong to deserve the punishment. It's that same consideration why the Google Adsense click fraud is thought of and why many people are getting into it |

FOREIGN CORRUPTION PRACTICE ACT FCPA USA
| |
| This article aims at dealing with the applicability of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in the foreign investment scenario in Asia. I will further concentrate on the nature of compliances that a corporate ought to observe, be it under FCPA or under the domestic laws of a particular country, and the reason and wisdom to do so. All around the world, in every country, the goal of business is not to serve the public; it is to make money. When that drive for profit produces corrupt behaviour and erupts in major scandals, it can have a demoralizing effect. The early twenty first century scandals in America over revelation of business fraud followed by indictments and punishment included corporations such as WorldCom, Qwest, Tyco, Adelphia Communications, ImClone and Global Crossing. |

“Third Generation Leadership” – “3G Leadership” or “Leadership v3.0”
| |
| First Generation Leadership ("G1 Leadership" or "Leadership v1.0") was typified by a command and control approach in which hierarchy ruled and the leader was "right". Second Generation Leadership ("G2 Leadership" or "Leadership v2.0") was typified by a reward for conformance / non reward or punishment for non-conformance. Again, hierarchy ruled and the leader was largely "right". Third Generation Leadership ("G3 Leadership" or "Leadership v3.0") is typified by engaging followers both with what they are doing and with the people with whom they do it. In this article Doug Long introduces both the concepts of leadership generations and shows the distinctions between them. |

Why Rewards Cause Problems #2: Rewards Can Punish
| |
| It seems wrong to say it, but rewards actually sometimes feel like punishment. Managers need to be very careful how rewards are administered in order to avoid an entitlement mentality. Here is an article that explains the paradox. |

Behavioural Intelligence, Impact and Influence in Negotiation – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Rewards and Punishment
| |
| When influencing others you seek to affect the behaviours, thinking and feelings of others through what you say or do. This is part of the process in negotiations, presentations and meetings designed to engage and build commitments. If your preferred style of influencing is Rewards and Punishment you use the carrot and stick as your primary tools. The juicy carrot reward tempts the donkey to move and the punishment stick reminds him who is in charge if he doesn’t. Of course you don’t use methods as crude as this with people but the principles are similar. |

Wealth Creating System Step 4 - Financial Awareness
| |
| Welcome to the 4th step in my Wealth Creating System and today I want to talk about financial awareness (please read step 1, 2 and 3 first)
Most systems of budgeting are based on punishment and reward and the principles of dieting are similar.
If you are “good” – i.e., you deny yourself food and / or shopping for a set time – you get a treat. If you are “bad” you don’t get the treat, plus you’re supposed to feel bad about what you’ve done. But here’s the problem: Diets Don’t Work!

Your Past does not Equal your Future
| |
| Your future, along with your personal and professional goals, are not as fragile as you might think. Failure is often the fertilizer that makes future success blossom. Recently, I had this principle confirmed to me via nine Irishmen from the 19th Century.
It seems that in 1848 as Ireland was attempting to break away from England, nine young Irish rebels were captured and sentenced to death. As they were brought before the queen for punishment, Queen Victoria could not bear to have them executed, so she sent them to England's prison colony in Australia.

Sanctity of Life, Pro-Life and Capital Punishment
| |
| Throughout history, many cultures have supported the “eye for an eye” justice system, whereby an offender is granted an equal punishment to match their wrong-doing. In the case of killing another person, this often meant death.
