And furthermore, we’ll have more success if we don’t settle for less than combining all three elements. I love his chapter titles – the six steps for creating your own life.

Four Key Principles for Small Business Success
Someone asked me recently, “if you were talking to a group of small business owners today, what would you say to them about finding success in this economy”? I thought through a range of responses, but the one thing I keep coming back to is this, be smart! Hidden in that simple response are four key principles of small business success.

Do You Own The Business? Or Does the Business Own You?
It's not about the money. I have made this statement often, but today it takes on a new meaning. Today I am not talking about value over price in a sales model. I am talking about why business owners are in business in the first place. At their core, most entrepreneurs and small business owners are in business because they want freedom and opportunity. How sad, then, to know that all too often they end up with neither because their business goals are not aligned to their personal goals or because their life is out of balance trying to make their business live up to their dreams and expectations.

Prayer, Faith and Action!
There is more to prayer then just asking for stuff. What is extremely important is what you do after you have prayed.

Seven Steps to Lose Weight with Twitter
You might be saying, "Come on now! The only thing social media does is add to my waistline since I spend too much time in front of the computer." Well I am here to tell you that's only because you are using it wrong. I'm not making that statement in an accusatory way. I've fallen into the same trap (as evidenced by my increasingly large physique). :) We've all rushed out to purchase the "at home" exercise equipment which we've creatively figured out how to use as place to hang our clothes, or as a dust collector. Come on ... you remember. You decided to purchase the equipment for your home so you could eliminate the recurring fee you paid to the health club. The crazy thing is you weren't using the membership anyhow.

Pursuing your own Goals
Recently, I made one of my rare and infrequent trips to a retail store. It's not that I don't like to buy things. I simply do not enjoy the process of shopping, so I leave it to others. While at the store, I took the opportunity to observe people who had selected the items they wished to purchase and were waiting to pay for their items in the checkout line. Some people simply picked the nearest line, stood in the back, and waited. Others roamed back and forth looking for the shortest line and waited there. Then there was the third group of shoppers who constantly got out of one line and got into another, thinking they would save time by getting in the faster-moving line.

What Will Your Sales Organization Look Like in 24 Months?
Let's face it, with the speed of change revved up as high as it is, developing and executing a five-year plan is nearly impossible to do. While it may be true that changes in technology, the economy, the political administration, and the markets are considerably volatile today (and certainly more difficult to plan for and navigate) I believe that when designing and developing a plan for your sales organization, you clearly need to decide what it is that you want to be “when you grow up.”

Learn To Increase Your Confidence for Greater Success
Confidence is generally thought of a mental state of being “certain.” Confidence could apply to the knowledge one carries that his viewpoint is true. Confidence could also apply to a permanent emotional state of mind, as in self-confidence: having high self-esteem in general and especially when considering a specific capability. Case in point: some people who struggle with self-doubt in most aspects of their life, but who are confident in one belief. Confidence has sometimes been called a “self-fulfilling prophecy”, since those that have it succeed just as they predict, whereas those who lack it fail because they worry too much about not having it.

How Did I Land Here?
Have you ever had such an exhilerating experience and then wondered how you managed to land there? Yes, there are reasons why you landed there and things you did to help it along the way. So if we can unconsciously do things to create great experiences, just imagine what we could create if we did it consciously!

Setting goals for your employees
When it comes to setting targets for the financial year, most SMEs think "operations, growth, expansion, profits" and so on. These are all necessary elements of successful planning, but what about setting goals for your employees? Is it necessary, and if so, where do you start? This article can be used as a guide for individual goal-setting and measuring achievement.

Creating sustainable competitive advantage; in a modern context
We are in the middle of one of the worst modern recessions in living memory and most companies are trying to focus, not just on how to survive, but on how to grow their businesses in the long term. Many companies have suffered from the effects of reduced turnover, increased costs and ever greater competition. It would be easy to be full of doom and gloom and to focus purely on survival but that would be to miss a great opportunity – how to prepare for the end of the recession and what comes next. Not all companies are doing badly! Some of those who were focused and well run have survived and come through the initial crisis relatively unscathed e.g. HSBC and Santander. Do you understand what resources you have and how they can be used to gain future competitive advantage? Can you inspire your stakeholders with your strategic messages?

Law of Correspondence
It's about getting clear on your purpose, mission and goals and how you think about these things. Do you think positively about success or money? Or is all your self-talk about the obstacles, fears and doubts that will sabotage your future? What you think about, you bring about.

Top 7 Leadership Lessons Learned From Gardening
Gardening has tips that can be applied in Gardening has tips that can be applied in leadership strategies, parenting and spiritual issues. My mother gave me a small plot to garden when I was ten-long before she bought me my first underwear and shoes. It was mine to cultivate, plant and care for my crops before harvesting them. Sugarcane was my crop of choice. I could harvest one at a time without asking for my parent's permission. At that tender age, I discovered a source of tranquility and moments for creative thinking that are rarely experienced in our fast paced world. Up to 1985, I gardened whenever schools were closed. What many consider manual labor was an interconnection of mental, physical, and spiritual aspects that always left a sense of significance words cannot describe.

My Father's Leadership
Today's decline of the social structures in America that hold families, corporations and other institutes together is largely attributed to ineffective leaders. As I reflect on the importance of quality leadership, I think of my father, Johnson Kituku Musoo. My father is a living testimony that what you don't have should not stop you from achieving what you want. His mother died before he turned ten, leaving him with a younger brother and sister to care for. I learned about his struggles from other people. I never heard him complain--although I once saw him cry, wishing that his mother was still alive.

Inspiring People for Maximum Productivity
It is amazing to learn and witness an ordinary teacher inspire average students for outstanding performance. There are numerous outstanding coaches who were never star players in their day. Another has just set his employees the goal of making the business more sustainable in 2008 by cutting their use of electricity and paper at work.

Creating the Mindset for Success to Grow Your Business

Build a Financial Plan “as you see it”
My goal is to help you achieve that kind of discipline, so that you can move from where you are to where you want to be. That means slightly different things for different people-there's no "one size fits all"-but that is the fun and beauty of financial independence.

Using your dreams and goals to create wealth Part 1
I thought, you can go where you want to go and do what you want to do, when you want to do it. What I had to discover-and in fact didn't discover for many years-was that having the money wasn't as important as knowing what to do with the money once I got it. In reality, as it turned out, money was only a tool.

First Step-Using your dreams and goals to create wealth Part 2
To take your first step and set your mind on the course to financial success, you must begin to dream. You must begin to envision the kind of life you desire. For some of you, this will be easy, because you have dreamed all your life. For others, it will be more difficult. Why? Some people simply don't know how to dream-they've never tapped into their imagination deeply enough to let their thoughts run free.

Stop Worrying about Sales
Someone once said that worrying is praying for things you don’t want to happen. What a great saying, and, like all sayings, there’s a lot of truth in it.

TIME, TIME, TIME ….IS NOT ON MY SIDE!
Many say the WORLDS GREATEST ROCK N’ ROLL BAND is the Rolling Stones! Mick Jagger and the boys once had a big hit whose lyrics went, “Time, Time, Time, is on my side, Yes it is….” With all due respect to the wisdom of Rock N’ Roll, I believe that the Stones were dead wrong! If they were right then why do so many of my business coaching customers say that they never have enough time to get everything done that they need done. Why do they say that life would be so much better if they just had 25 hours in a day?

EVERY BUSINESS NEEDS A CEO!
The idea of the value of a title in business today is debated far and wide and I agree in most cases titles are important, however for successful businesses in today's rocky business environment are discovering the need for the changing meaning of certain titles or the addition of certain titles to the necessary line up of key employees in their organization. The new thoughts may surprise you!

LET’S DANCE!
I almost got shot the other day! One of my coaching clients called to tell me about a very successful meeting that they had just completed that ended in them getting a very important new customer. This was a real tough one and one that we had worked on to create a powerful strategy plan to sue in the coming meeting…and the plan worked! We celebrated. I celebrated for my customer...and I think everyone should celebrate any level of victory in business today. It's a great way to stimulate the slow or lost passion in the employees, leadership and even ownership!

Hypothetical Hockey
With the cancellation of the 2005 National Hockey League season, we could only think about hockey as there was none available to watch. It was an opportunity to think about what might happen if we changed some of the rules and apply the example to organizations that are (to be kind) less than effective.

Dreaming is fun, isn’t it? Part 3
Someone once said that what the mind can see, the body can achieve. I believe it. I go a step further. I believe that the mind must see it before the body is able to work for it. Look at another realm of human endeavor: sports. When Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile, he saw it long before he did it. Over and over in his mind, he later recalled, he visualized doing what had been deemed to be impossible. Interestingly enough, once Bannister did what no one else had ever done before, others quickly succeeded in doing it.

Principles of Wealth Creation
To accomplish your goal of becoming financially free, you will need to master specific principles of wealth creation. A millionaires dreams
Financial freedom is your dream. As long as you can dream, you can continue to succeed. Show me a person who has no dream, and I will show you someone who is poor. A millionaire dreams, and then sets out to make those dreams real. Once you stop dreaming, you stop the magic. That’s because you have created the world you wanted. You stop moving forward, because your dreams have ended. Either you are content to live with what you have or you are constantly frustrated because you don’t have enough-or you learn to dream again.

For example, in the Dominican Republic, there are hundreds of small- to medium sized transnational enterprises (SMEs),including small factories, commercial/retail establishments and financial agencies. Such ventures are created and run by former migrants, who have returned to the Dominican Republic after acquiring capital and establishing ties with migrant communities in the United States, thus acquiring clients and investors abroad.

Renewal
Every New Year's Eve, I go through a kind of renewal ritual. It is my gift to myself for having done my best for the past year, and it allows me to look forward to an even better year to come. I have recommended some form of this for all people who take my leadership classes. It does not need to be done on the New Year; some people like to do this on their birthday or some other specific day of the year. The point is to designate one day to reflect on what you have done, where you are, and what you intend to do in the coming year and beyond.

SUNRISES AND SUNSETS
Let me start by wishing you all a very Happy New Year. One of my fondest memories of summers at the lake was sitting on the deck at the cottage (preferably screened in) either early in the morning with a hot cup of coffee and a blanket wrapped around me watching the sun come up or late in the evening sitting with a drink and in the old days an occasional cigar, quietly watching the sun go down on another day. It was always at these times I would reflect back over days past and wonder about days to come and where my life would take me and my family.

Achieving goals and aspirations!
Bill Wynn, Managing Director of Project Resource Limited offers insight on how to achieve your goals.

The most powerful motivation is to come up with your own solution
How can coaching help you achieve what you desire?

Consistency is Key
One of the most powerful methods of maintaining forward momentum in business, or just life in general, is by applying consistent pressure toward achieving the goals that you've set out in front of yourself. It is life's own version of compound interest, and by utilizing it, you can experience some powerful growth in whichever areas you apply it to.

Who Cares More-Sales or Marketing?
Sales and Marketing share a lot of the same common interests, revenue, leads, conversions, metrics...and the list goes on. So who cares more about these things that both professions should take a keen interest in. Sales or Marketing? Here's my opinion.

Coming From Love
What is your real purpose in life? You were put on this earth through an act of love, you were loved and nurtured and you grew into adulthood. You may find yourself looking around you and asking “Ok world, I am here, now what?†The key to a fulfilling life is attuning to who you truly are.

Success is your Baby
There were two warring tribes in the Andes, one that lived in the lowlands and the other high in the mountains. The mountain people invaded the lowlanders one day, and as part of their plundering of the people, they kidnapped a baby and took the infant with them back up into the mountains. Although the lowlanders didn't know how to climb the mountain, they sent out their best party of fighting men to bring the baby home. They first tried one method of climbing and then another. They tried one trail and then another. After climbing only a few hundred feet after several days of effort, the lowlander men decided that the cause was lost, and they prepared to return to their village below.

Your Past does not Equal your Future
Your future, along with your personal and professional goals, are not as fragile as you might think. Failure is often the fertilizer that makes future success blossom. Recently, I had this principle confirmed to me via nine Irishmen from the 19th Century. It seems that in 1848 as Ireland was attempting to break away from England, nine young Irish rebels were captured and sentenced to death. As they were brought before the queen for punishment, Queen Victoria could not bear to have them executed, so she sent them to England's prison colony in Australia.

Why Setting Goals Do Not Work
Your entire life, you hear people say, “You have to set goals for yourself.” I have said it and I know you have too. What nobody told us is goals don’t work. Do you know why goals don’t work? I am going to tell you and you will be saying to yourself, “I didn’t really think about that.”

Lessons from the Top of the World
Recently, I have been reading quite a bit about expeditions on Mount Everest. I am intrigued by the fact that so many people over the years have been driven to climb the tallest mountain on earth and stand on the top of the world. While studying the expeditions, I have been amazed at how much time, preparation, and energy goes into getting to the mountain with all of the equipment necessary to make the climb and to set up each of the base camps along the route. An expedition is literally years in the planning stage and months in the preparation stage before an attempt can be made on the summit.

Keeping On-Course
There comes a time in everyone's life when you become extremely frustrated with your progress toward your goal. There are days when you seem to be making incredible strides, and nothing can stop you. Buddying Up

You have a wonderful coach who keeps you on course through weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly session, but somewhere in between scheduled sessions you find yourself faltering. Are you looking for a way to stay on course daily?

Setting Goals To Achieve
Why do so many businesses or individuals fail? Why is it that people do not all get what they want in life? Failing to plan can often mean planning to fail. Creating a plan means setting goals in your life. If you do not set goals you will not be very likely to succeed. Sure, there are some people who are simply gifted and can achieve more easily than others. However, the unfortunate truth is that most of us must work very hard in order to achieve our goals.

Talk seems to be plentiful about "getting real" and "keeping it real" these says. But what exactly does that mean? One of the definitions of the word real is "being or occurring in fact or actuality; not imaginary or ideal." Goal Getting
Close your eyes. Imagine that everything you desire is just a wish away. All you have to do is close your eyes, focus your thoughts and ask your genie to make your wishes, dreams, or goals come true. Wouldn't that be cool? What if you didn't have to rely on anyone else but yourself? Not even your own personal genie. Wouldn't that be even better?

In the Drivers Seat
Envision yourself in the driver's seat of your car. Where are you headed? What path are you taking? How long will it take you to get there? How do you get around traffic and road blocks? These are some questions that can be applied to life as well. How does one find the answer to these questions? By learning about, understanding, and applying the various powerful laws of the universe. These are the laws which govern our very existence.

It Coulda Been Me
In today’s society, so much is based on scales, decided by tests, and judged by comparison. It’s no wonder that society, as a whole, has issues about achievement and the quest for success. Success, like most other things is viewed as a goal that has levels, and all too many people believe that they are incapable of achieving true success. Why is this? The universal Law of Equality states that the dreams and desires of each person are just as important as the next, as is their fulfillment.

It Really is Okay to Skip to the End
Do you know what you want, but you’re not exactly sure how to get it? Perhaps it is an idea for a new business, product, or career but you’re not certain of the steps that you will need to take in order to reach your final destination? Its Just a Number
Age is a funny thing, it’s something that people want to speed up and slow down all within the span of a few years. As a child do you recall saying “I can’t wait until I’m all grown up?” I’ll bet that at some point in life you’ll also become wistful for a younger age. No matter which side of the longing scale you’re on, your age or lack there of need not be a deterrent for accomplishing your goals.

It's Never Too Late for A Happy Life
When Nancy overheard her 5 year old daughter Shelby being asked what she ‘wants to be when she grew up’ she paused to listen to her daughter’s lengthy response. She knew the litany by heart. Shelby wanted to be a rock star, a firefighter, a doctor, a vet, and a writer when she grew up. When the asker responded that she couldn’t possibly be all of those things, Nancy laughed.

Learn Lifes Lessons
Have you learned from the lessons that everyday life has tossed out? Do you look at what life has to offer as challenges, but approach them as opportunities? If so, I would wager that you do learn from your experiences. If on the other hand you are more apt to place blame on yourself or others, use excuses to explain a circumstance, or prefer to be a spectator in life, then you are probably missing out on some awesome opportunities!

The Best Information Comes From Short Questions
If you want to actually learn something about the customer's needs, you will get there quicker by asking short questions... allow the customer to do all the talking and they'll tell you their goals and will reveal a level of information you need, to determine how to best serve them.

Reasons to Succeed
Instead of making excuses and thinking about why you may not be able to succeed, focus on the reasons you can succeed.

Your Conviction
It takes a strong conviction to accomplish your dreams and goals.

Success: How will you know when you're there?
There is a difference between goals and having a successful life. Our goalposts change as we progress. Answering the question about ‘how do you know when you’re there’ forces you to get really specific about what it is that you want in your life. A successful life is one in which we achieve whatever is most important to us.

Employers of Choice - Why They Attract Employee Loyalty
Far from business determining the future of the workforce, the workforce now determines the future of business. While earning money at work is still vital, commitment to one employer is not. People want more than money - they want employment that enables them to achieve their personal goals.

Work Life Harmony, Rather Than Work Life Balance
Work life balance suggests people are living two lives, one at work and one away from work. But people don't 'work' for five days or more and 'live' for two days or less. Work is just one of many roles that people perform in their week. No matter where they are or what they are doing, day or night, people are carrying personal baggage, problems, responsibilities, personal goals and work goals. Separation of work and personal life roles has become a blur and, to many of us, almost a seamless link. Family friendly policies are now only one aspect of the work life balance issue. Work life balance has become a key factor in attracting and retaining good staff, male and female in a buyers market generated by a shortage of quality skilled staff.

Who's Writing The Script for Your Life?
Most of us have our life script written by others - it began with our parents and teachers. In our adult years the job was taken over by our bosses, clients, partner, other dependants, the economy, world events and so on. We try to be the person we think others expect us to be rather than be the person within that we have always been. It's time to take control and write the script we want.

How to Create a Great Team out of Unique Individuals
Each person is unique in the course of human history, past, present and future. We are each born with a unique set of skills, abilities and talents. We have unique life experiences. Creating an effective, cohesive business team from such diversity can seem well nigh impossible. Every problem is actually an opportunity waiting to be discovered. In this case the answer lies in capitalising on the diversity and uniqueness of the various individuals comprising the team. It's time to view your team as a mosaic rather than a melting pot.

Who Are You Becoming?
Never lose sight of the person you are the person you are becoming.

Staying in touch with the big picture
A good way to stay on track and focus on the important work that has to be achieved is to make sure that your actions are in keeping with your goals and values.

Are You a Goal Watcher, Goal Talker, or Goal ACHIEVER?
Good for you! Your curiosity got the best of you and you've decided there might be something interesting in this course that could improve your life. Effective communication, negotiation techniques, goal setting, and teaming are all skills necessary to build a successful personal life as well as career Goal setting statistics are frightening and the sad thing is the numbers haven't changed despite the initial research. That research over 50 years ago, showed that only 5% of us will attain our goals. The number one reason? It's not that we plan to fail, it's simply that we haven't created a plan at all. Most of us wouldn't think about getting into the car and taking a drive to the unique town of Micanopy, Florida without a road map, and yet we travel through our lives without such a map.

The 411 on Selecting and Achieving Your Goals
Do you know what you truly desire to accomplish, obtain, or become in life? Not just a vague idea, but what you really want to do? Psychologists and sociologists theorize that because there are so many more options available for the average person in this new millennium, the decision-making process has become too convoluted, and has begun to actually hinder success. Achieving goals is a step by step process, with making a decision about what to accomplish being just a part of the whole process itself.

The Big Shift
You've got big dreams. Ideas that are going to take your life in a complete one-eighty degree turn, right? Like creating better balance between work and home, creating more organization, or finding the perfect mate. You're raring to go except for one thing - how to get started. Such a life altering goal is going to require some major serious action, right? Or will it? Somewhere along the line the mind seems to directly infer that big is to big, as small is to small and that is just erroneous when it comes to goals. Take as an example the person who wants to de-clutter a home.

The Ultimate Reward
One's religious or spiritual beliefs and practices are very personal and unique to each individual. No one can force your beliefs, but there is one commonality amongst people who follow the laws of attraction -- their trust in the Universe, God, the Angels, or some "Higher Power". No matter what your individual belief, isn't it logical that something that is more powerful, spiritual, and knowledgeable than us mere humans should hold the answers to the questions that you are seeking? Questions like, where will I find my success, how can I change my path, or where will this choice lead me?

The Universal Law of Attraction
Are you aware of what a powerful creator you are? Do you know that everything that is happening to you or has ever happened to you is, without exception, in full response to your thoughts - and more importantly - the emotions behind those thoughts? Take a look at your life.

Whats Your State of Mind
I suppose that you would question me if I affirmed that there is enough abundance to go around - right? Why is that? Is it because we have been conditioned to believe that only a select few will reach the personal and financial goals that they aspire to? Or because we have bought into the saying that "if something seems too good to be true, it is", and believing that abundance abounds would certainly seem too good to be true. What if abundance began and ended with you ... with your thoughts, your beliefs, and your actions? Would you be more apt to embrace the belief? Ironically, the abundance that shows up in your life, or the lack of it, is directly correlated to you and your beliefs.

Manifesting Your Revenue Goal
No matter what your current dance is with money, one thing is clear. If you want to increase your profits this year, something has to change. Are You Ready For Coaching
If and when you are considering whether or not to hire a coach, you are actually deciding if you are ready to embark on a grand adventure. Coaching is not for everyone and even highly coachable people have times in their lives when coaching may not be what they really want or need. Here are a few important questions I ask prospective clients to ask themselves before making a decision:

Get The Most Out Of Coaching

Monsters Under the Bed
Do you remember laying awake at night worrying about monsters under your bed? The same paranoia can exist in organizations as well. Some groups become paralyzed by fear of the unknown. It can stifle creativity and strangle progress.

Most successful people set goals. How about you?
Many of us have plans for our futures, but how many of us can actually tell the difference between wishing for things and setting goals? What are the active steps you are taking right now toward achieving your goals? Becoming a black belt? Getting into a university? Affording a new car? Do you just expect to have these things one day, or do you wake up and take action toward achieving them?

Do You Believe in Easy?
There are those of you who want it to be easy but you can’t find your sweet spot. You might believe (fill in the blank) can be easy, but you’re not used to it being easy. Therefore there is an expectation that something will not go according to plan. You fear somewhere in the back of your mind that you won’t be able to pull it off.

How do you REINVENT Yourself?
You really can reinvent yourself, and you don’t have to back up the calendar. In fact, that’s what reinvention is, and we all can do it ‘every day' if need be. The alternative is that we make excuses about why we can’t - and thus, put our choices in the hands of someone else. If you reflect for just a few minutes, chances are you will recall numerous times in your life where you chose to make the best of a 'not so great' situation. It might have been a choice to think or respond differently, or completely rewrite the script! The great thing is that the decision was and is always yours! Here's to your success!

We need to learn how to manage ourselves well. Time management is personal management. Time management is life management. Each one of us has been given the same 24 hours in a day. Time management is what you do with the time you have been given.

Kick Start the New Year by Setting SMART Goals
Many people are not able to articulate what they really want in life in clear and concise language. A good place to start is to make a list of all the things you don’t want or are really unhappy about. The second step is to look at your list of don’t wants and convert each one into something you really want instead. The third step is to turn your wants and desires into specific and measurable goals as a way of gaining clarity and focus. Making your goals SMART is a key step to having your goals become reality.

New Years Resolutions
Make sure your New Years Resolutions succeed.

Solutions and Excuses

Five Essential Attributes that Create Success in Your Life
We can all be successful if we practice principles of success. To become successful, one has to be committed to personal growth and development, and willing to perfect practices that lead to a successful outcome. Like any other habit, developing traits that lead to success, requires commitment, consistency and persistence. This article illustrates how five attributes can help to create success in your life. I refer to these attributes as the PAULA(sm) Guide to Success.

Five Attributes that Lead to Exceptional Customer Service
As a business owner, I have developed a keen sense of the attributes of people who are highly motivated as well as those qualities that lead to counter productive behavior. Regardless of the industry, customer service is key to the success of your business. Unfortunately, there are many examples of people whose poor customer service has been memorable: people who have left us on hold and forgotten about us, waitresses who never return to our table, the customer service person who leaves us on the phone for several minutes. We all have experienced poor customer service at some level. This article illustrates how Five Attributes Can Lead to Exceptional Customer Service. I refer to them as the PAULA(sm) Customer Service Success Program.

How Disasters Can Teach Lessons of Gratitude
In the world today, we encounter a lot of negativity, pain, stress and natural disasters. Many days, we wake up with far too much to do, far too much to think about, far too many concerns, and far too many problems. In Virginia where I live, in the span of less than one week, we experienced a "terrible triad:" an earthquake, a tornado and Hurricane Irene; three major natural disasters capable of causing devastation, tragedies, and causalities. So many of us went through life's inconveniences facing another triad of problems: no lights, no air-conditioning, no television. Having witnessed three natural disasters in one week has made me readily come to believe that it is a good idea to start each day with inspiration and gratitude to help us make it through the day with positive thoughts. This helps to remain focused on your goals.

Focus on the Horizon
Experiences such as rally car driving can provide pointers that help us in running businesses - especially when we are experiencing difficulties or facing economic uncertainty.

Use Your Mistakes as a Catalyst for Success
In a recent article on the Alabama-LSU football game, I stated, "a fumble is simply a recovery waiting to happen." Get started today and use your mistakes as a catalyst for success!!

Getting Outside Your Box
We are all familiar with the overused phrase, "thinking outside the box." This article discusses ways we can break out of our constraints in order to get more out of life.

Determination

Truly Accomplishing Goals that Matter

There are many reasons a person may fail in an endeavor some avoidable and some not. Most people want to avoid failure but without proper knowledge and understanding, this is nearly impossible!

Goal Setting Sucks
Are you the type of person that struggles with goals? What about New Year's Resolutions? To some, those are the kiss of death, to set a resolution or goal. People tend to have problems visualizing the outcome of such goals. On the other hand, they simply do not believe it to be possible, yet they set them anyway.

Putting Together Personal Development Strategies
Deciding to change our lives for the better is sometimes much easier said than done. In order to do this we must proceed with caution toward a desired but clear target. Doing so requires a plan. This paper will give you some effective strategies toward your desired outcome.

Gain Self Esteem Through Personal Development
Personal development is the path toward improving the person that you are, internally and externally. Is Your Ladder on the Wrong Wall?
I had a client named John and he asked me to help him stop feeling overwhelmed so he could put the fun and freedom back into his life. Within our first conversation, John realized… After all of these years of working in his own business he had still managed put his ladder on someone else’s beautiful building! The success he created was the dream of his mentor. When you are crystal-clear about how YOU really want to live and climb your own mountain, you will have an experience of effortless action. It’s almost like you would pay someone else to show up every day and do your work. It’s not a job, it’s an indescribable passion that you are compelled to express. Nothing and no one can stand in your way.

Persevere. Be Grateful and Productive.
Rather than focusing on all that has to be done – I focus on the potential available to me each step of the way.

Goals & Plans
Are Goals and Plans Cosmic Laws?

That dog won’t hunt
Here we are at the end of March already. I was talking with a friend the other day about an old farmer’s adage we used to anticipate in March regarding the weather: “In like a lamb, out like a lion.” Or “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” The expectation was that if we had harsh winter weather at the beginning of March we would have mild weather at the end – and vice versa. I have no idea why that is expected but it reminds me of all the little clichés that we accept as reality. As farmers we also used to cite, “Red in the morning, sailors warning; red at night, sailors delight.”

I Won the Lottery and You Did Too
Years ago, my best friend called while I was studying for a test and told me that the lottery was at $200 million. I told her I had $5.00, gave her my numbers, and she bought my ticket. That night she called and said "girl you won, not the big one but you have 4 of the six numbers." So I learned at a young age, that I won the lottery that truly pays off: the lottery of life. You can't wish or hope that good things will occur. You have to stay prepared, and work your plan. This is the way you win the lottery of life.

Real Motivation
All leaders seek higher motivation within the workforce because it means greater productivity. Most leaders try to create higher motivation by trying to make workers happier with bonuses, pizza parties, or numerous other extrinsic motivators. It has been known for over a century that real motivation is an inside job.

Do You See The Obstacle Or The Goal?
Where does your mind generally go-to the obstacles or to the goal? You CAN change your mindset if it is stopping you from having what you want.

Would you hire this person?
This addresses a pet peeve of mine. And that’s the “Objective” on resumes. Here is a recent example on a resume submitted for my review: “To support the growth and profitability of an organization that provides challenge, encourages advancement, and rewards achievement with the opportunity to utilize my experience, skills, and proven abilities.” Sounds great – would you like to hire this person? But what do you know about this person? Is he/she a candidate for flipping hamburgers or for a CEO position? Does he have skills in supervising, organizing, planning, selling, marketing, etc? Is she proficient in any computer skills? We don’t know. This “Objective” tells us absolutely nothing about the person. It was a total waste of time on the applicant’s part.

Open Door - Right Direction?
Here’s a reader question: Dan, My big goal is to start a business and I’ve taken the first few steps. My broad goal is simply to find a different job. It’s funny though – the more I work on my business plan, the more interviews and job opportunities come open to me. I’m not sure if it’s a sign that I’m really headed on the right track (and the other jobs are distractions) or if it’s a sign that there’s something else out there for me (just a different job, not my own business). How do you figure that out?

Are you a coach or just a cheerleader?
As quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, Joe Montana led his team to four Super Bowl victories. He has been elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was named by Sports Illustrated as the greatest football player of the past 50 years.

Time for a 2012 Tune-up?
Wise, successful business people of all times constantly looked at what they were doing, how they were doing it, how others were doing it and how they could ratchet up, revamp or recycle their business products, services and practices. They knew some old had to be replaced with some new. And they kept their fingers on the pulse of not only their industries but other industries, as well.

The One Percent Rule That Can Make or Break Your Entire Business Model
I have coached a lot of people. They think they have the formula for success because they’ve laid out a business model, worked on their systems and marketing, and did some coaching. Just because you’re getting stuff done doesn’t mean you are happy, profitable or expanding your business.

What Does Success Look Like To You?
Do I think differently of success at age 58 than I did at 38? I remember when I first started in the speaking and training business, women who were a bit older than me, asked me, "Do you believe your perspective would be different if you were in your 50s? Do you really think you feel the same way in your 50's or 60's or see life the same as you do at 38?"

It's Time for Excellence
You no longer can afford average. The global economic recession has taken “average” out at the knees. Where average was a safe place to land it is now a recipe for disaster.

The Art of Amazing
I consider myself a student of human behavior and achievement. I have read countless books, listened to numerous speeches, and studied a variety of philosophies designed to help people be successful.

The Six Essential Steps to Having Your Business Achieve Its Goals
It has become stale at this point to discuss goals and achieving goals. Everyone knows what it takes to set and achieve goals, and there is no shortage of acronyms (e.g. GOALPOST) to help managers remember that goals are time bound, measurable, significant, etc. This begs the question of why – if everyone knows how to set and keep goals – so many businesses fail to achieve their objectives. Goal setting is sort of like New Year’s resolutions: easy to make, hard to achieve. A business coach and advisor can help ensure that you and your leadership team set appropriately aggressive goals and achieve them. There are six steps to the process.

SMART Organizational Goals
This article is designed to provide you with a tried and true approach to organizational goal setting. The best goals are smart goals. SMART is a handy acronym for the five characteristics of well-designed goals. SMART goals make for smart organizations. Setting goals - ten steps to success
We all know that success begins with setting measurable and carefully considered goals. But setting goals is not enough - you need to devise several roadmaps to reaching those goals, and then follow through. Whether your goals are small or big, following these ten steps will help you on your way.

‘My Goals are in My Head’
Are you one of those people who know that goals are important but you just seem to balk at writing them down? You have decided they are firmly rooted in your mind. They will be okay there so you don't need to put them on paper, right? • You just started a new home business and you think that with all your other learning, the goals can just be done ‘in your head.’ • You are not new to your business and have just decided that for, you, personally, writing your goals doesn't really match your personality. You just do things differently. • You believe that the actual writing down of goals doesn't really help you get there any sooner. • You believe that writing down goals doesn't keep you focused.

Create Greater Success with Effective Goal Setting
It's easy to set your goals, even if you have never done it or not done it much before. Then why don't many people actually write down their goals? Let's not consider why others don't do something that will have a positive impact on their life; instead, let's just begin with setting our goals and working on a plan to achieving our goals so we can enjoy the kind of life we want.

Setting Goals Help Home Business Owners Become Successful
Achieving success is defined by most as setting and meeting goals. The goals can be financial, productivity based, or be related to company growth goals. The goals vary from business to business. Some goals can be purely financial such as a freelance writer setting a monetary figure of income over a set period of time.

Setting Achievable Business Goals
Many in business think of setting goals as creating a better future with visionary results. We rely on our past experiences, new information and facts to help us set our goals. Setting goals sometimes goes beyond what we know to what our experience is, sometimes it is insight into what is possible. The best approach to setting goals is to envision short, medium and long-terms goals.

Don’t Do This as a Sales Manager
When you are setting goals, there are a lot of factors to keep in mind that are danger spots and pitfalls of goal setting. As part of the "don't do this as a sales manager" this is one of the important parts to helping you and your sales people set goals, and to make sure that you keep a very tight leash on those goals. Have control over those goals, and oversee the actions that are being taken to achieve those goals is very important.
