Mr. Electronics: Morita Brings Sony to Life
| |
| World War II may have ended, but for many countries, the years following proved to be the even more difficult ones. Japan was one of those countries. Almost every single large city in Japan had been damaged, along with their industries and transportation networks. Food shortages were rampant, not to mention the fact that nearly 3 million able bodied workers had been killed during the war. In short, Japan was devastated and, if it was going to recover, it would have to start rebuilding from scratch. |

When You Say The Wrong Thing
| |
| Recently I hosted a dinner with a great group of friends and people I wanted to meet. One of my guests was a particularly good friend, a guy I care about and respect deeply. But due to politics, he was let go - despite the fact that everyone knows he's a total superstar, both in his performance at that company and in every position prior. |

A Closed Mouth Never Gets Fed
| |
| I don’t watch a lot of television, but this one commercial sticks out to me about a kid who was born with seemingly ultimate confidence: asking girls out for dates even though he’s clearly shorter and younger; graduating college when most graduate high school; performing open-heart surgery in a crowded concert hall with a ballpoint pen. But when it comes to negotiating a fair price for a new car, he’s frozen in his tracks. |

| The blessing of life also brings with is a multitude of adversities we all face - challenges with career, family, finances, relationships, feeling overwhelmed or struggling with depression. Recently, continued negative news on many fronts can tend to magnify these challenges in our lives.

CONFIDENCE BOOSTERS
| |
| As you're probably only too aware, our confidence and self esteem are very variable - more of a wavy line than a straight line. Some days we feel we could conquer the world and other days we just want to hide under the duvet!
We can miss opportunities because we allow fear and self doubt to get in the way. We undermine our confidence by taking things too personally and by trying to second guess what others think of us. I love the phrase: "What you think of me is none of my business!" And Eleanor Roosevelt famously said: "No-one can make you feel inferior without your permission." |

Saying What You Mean To Connect With Prospects! Why What You Say is Just as Important as How You Say it.
| |
| Do you REALLY think about what you are saying and how you are saying it, particularly in your promotinal copy?
Word choice is a vital component of the copy for your marketing, advertising and promotional materials. In fact, your copy can make or break your sales efforts. I always say “copy counts and actually your sales count on your copy.”
The best illustration of how important copy really is was shared by my good friend and mentor Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero. She explains that copy is the DNA of all marketing materials. I have to agree.
Imagine stripping all of your marketing materials of words. How well would your website, brochure, print ads, sales letters, press releases or broadcast scripts work without words?

To know yourself, know your shadow
| |
| It is a common experience. You speak to a friend about some strong negative feelings you have about someone else. Your friend, being a true friend, says, "but aren't you a bit like that too?" You of course don't like to hear this, but it gets you thinking. Maybe you can be a bit like it too. That's a useful admission since it then helps you to manage that characteristic in yourself. This is the sort of self-awareness that is crucial to our growth, to get that the people in our lives are in some way a mirror of ourselves. The concept of the shadow, from Carl Jung, is one of the great insights from 20th century psychology that is invaluable to those of us who seek to build effective relationships with others. |

Starting Your Business By The Book

A good attorney can save you far more than the cost of his services. I rarely make any decision that has the potential to impact my business without first consulting my attorney. |
