Lesson #4: Never Compromise Your Principles in Any Relationship
| |
| When Li Ka-shing says “yes” to someone, he means yes; he has entered into a contract and he intends on keeping his promise. In 1956, when he was just beginning in the plastics business, Li received an order for a three to six month production. He calculated a profit of 20 percent and agreed to the deal. Soon after, a large American competitor of Li’s buyer approached him, offering to pay an extra 30 percent profit for the merchandise Li’s original buyer had ordered. |

When to Walk Away
| |
| Last month at TED2006 I had dinner with a leader of a major technology company, and we discussed the Big Task Summit my firm is hosting in April. On behalf of our clients Kaiser Permanente, Safeway, and Dupont, we’re inviting leaders from 30 other companies to share in some significant research focused on reducing corporate healthcare costs and increasing employee wellness funded by these companies. This executive suggested I invite one of her co-founders, saying,"He really does care about these issues." |

The American Dream Downsized, or Upscaled. Your choice.
| |
| Today’s news is filled with doom about the economy and dire predictions about a permanent downsizing of the American Dream. It’s as if our futures have become foretold. To me, this is precisely the time to talk about building wealth.
The mind numbing tidal wave of financial collapse does not have to engulf you. To avoid it, however, you have to have an evacuation plan that leads to higher financial ground, and you have to choose when to put that plan into action. When it comes to wealth building, it always starts with a choice. |

Bullying and Boundaries

The Value of True Friendships
| |
| Everyone wants, and needs, friends-especially close friends. You can never say that you truly just want to be left alone, that you don't want or need to have any close friends. It's a Core Desire for human beings to interact with others-to like and be liked, to love and be loved. Close friends permit you to open up and have fun. They like and accept all the things that make you you-the good, the bad, and the ugly. True friendship allows you to feel safe with another person, to be accepted by others-in spite of the things you do wrong and in spite of your idiosyncrasies. |

Keeping in Touch: How to Avoid Return to Sender

| I've always been a big postcard sender and this vacation was no exception! Watching me write the cards, one of the friends with whom I was traveling, a woman in her 80's, mentioned how sad it is that she's lost contact with many of her friends over the past several years. She said she doesn't know if her friends are sick, have passed away, or moved, and she doesn't know how to find out. |

Top Eight Characteristics Of True Friends
| |
| Over the years, I have observed people who are real friends and people who claim to be friends. As I get older, I truly believe the old saying that you can count your real friends on one hand. So, you may be asking what makes a person a real friend. I have identified my top eight characteristics of what I feel constitutes a true friend, or what I feel I need most in a friendship. In observing your relationships with other people, whether they are family members, people you went to school with, coworkers, or colleagues, how many of them are real friends? How many of them possess the following characteristics I feel contribute to or reflect real friendships? |

The Deafening Roar Of A Jet Plane

| Over here in the UK we are experiencing some wonderful weather (if we get a good spell of 3 or 4 days we are doing awesome!) so like any sensible nation we take immediate advantage of this and get out the old BBQ and invite a few friends round .
We have some friends who live several miles away and they invited us round on Saturday night so off we went looking forward to the usual feast Lorraine cooks (she is an exceptional cook and John an exceptional host).

You Have the Right to...Have Male Friends!

| Right #9
You Have the Right to...Have Male Friends!
For some of you this statement could be controversial so let me clarify. When you live your life with integrity - i.e., you have good personal ethics and you have developed a reputation of trust - then having male friends will not be seen as a threat to your existing relationship with your man.
Having friends of the opposite sex is important in many ways. In my seminars, when I talk on the topics of Leadership, Coaching, Team Building, Parenting, and Communication, I recognize the fact that men and women do all those things equally, but differently.
I take care that every seminar contains what men need to hear and what women need to hear...and they're different!
When I walk into a big networking event at a conference or a chamber of commerce, I see women talking and sitting |

Work-Life Balance Tip 17 - Put Friends Back into Your Life (Part One)
| |
| Remember when you had friends? OK write the names of three friends down on a piece of paper.....oh....did I mention they can't be people that you work with? Why not? It's OK to enjoy their company but we need to get a life...balanced outside of work. And when was the last time you spent time with any of your friends?
When I did this exercise I realized how isolated I had become. With travel and work, school and sports events, one day lead to another. I had talked with but hadn't seen some of my dear friends in over a year!
Why don't we spend more time with friends? Most of us see entertainment as an expense of both money and work. Sure, if I invite people over to my home, it means I've gotta clean. And oh, that carpet it dirty, I'll need to have that shampooed first. The wallpaper is peeling and the walls need paint. One week delay t |
