Don’t Let Your Need for Artwork or Graphic Design Hinder Your Dreams
No matter what idea you have for a business or a product that you want to market online, there is a way to use freelancers to get that job done. I am very high on using freelancers and with good reason.

You Should Be Very Careful on Ebay
Please don’t misunderstand, I think Ebay is great and has lots of uses. Entrepreneurs and Internet marketers have fallen in love with Ebay and with very good reason. Ebay allows people to sell just about anything to anyone, anywhere in the world.

Lesson #5: Make Your Workers Happy
“You have to employ winners, and then allow winners to do what they do,” says Simmons. “You have to give them autonomy, which means, in a lot of cases, the opportunity to make mistakes.”

Lesson #5: Know Your Enemy

He knew his limits but he was able to sense theirs as well. He was thus able to navigate himself through the competition to end up on top.

Lesson #2: The Best Leadership is by Example
“If there is such a thing as good leadership, it is to give a good example,” says Kamprad. “I have to do so for all the Ikea employees.”

Lesson #5: Do Not Trade In Just Because the Chips are Low
“You’ve got to start with your gut, with something you are really passionate about, for a good reason,” says Schwab. “You won’t get there by sitting in a closet and thinking, ‘Boy I know the world must want this.’”

Referrals: Now They\'re Asking and You\'re Making
As entrepreneurs and salespeople, referrals are our lifeblood because they jumpstart the trust-building with potential customers, partners and suppliers. In my last column I wrote about the oft-forgotten sales and networking tactic of asking our customers for referrals. Now, let's switch hats for a moment. What happens when we're the ones receiving the request? It's certainly a familiar situation, because we're as well-connected as they come.

No Fear of Referrals
People are often worried about being put in an uncomfortable situation in which someone they just met is asking them for a business referral -- particularly if their new acquaintance is a salesman asking for a referral to one of their friends who could be a potential client.

Worry
Worry has been described as "interest paid on trouble before it comes due." One of America's worst enemies is worry. Worry is like a rocking chair; it requires a lot of energy, and it gets you nowhere. Leo Buscaglia said, "Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy."

Why Worry?

Ms. In-between

Buyer beware – scammers and fraudsters on the prowl
‘Buyer Beware’ is a phrase that has been around for a long time and for good reason. There are enough stories in circulation to know that not all sales people or businesses behave honourably, and some are nothing more than fraudsters and scammers. With the market getting more crowded everyday, the need to attract buyer attention and grow revenue, and the rise of the online business model, buyers should beware. While most businesses and their sales people want to attract and work with viable prospects and customers, there are those less than honourable sales and business people who are after victims, not prospects. Their entire focus or raison d’etre is to get your money at your expense.

Selling is not a dirty word
We are not born with our beliefs or values, they are taught to us. Our thoughts, feelings, views and opinions about the world are shaped by our experiences of many people and many things. They are coloured, rightly or wrongly, by our perceptual filters which we learn from others. ‘Watch who you let near your mind’ is a statement that is often quoted in my articles and for good reason. It takes between 6-8 weeks to unwittingly pick up and adopt another’s views, beliefs and perceptions and own them as your own if we do not question and thoroughly examine the consequences and impact of these beliefs and perceptions on our own thoughts, feelings, behaviours and actions.

Clash of the Titans II
We thought we had put the Clash of the Titans behind us but Hollywood made a sequel. It gave the PC/CE industry an opportunity for the industry titans to stretch their control over the landscape even more. Titans are taking the opportunity to payback those who bruised their egos, encroached on their "territories" and just did things they didn't like. The Titan Titans -- Apple, Google, Adobe -- are hollering at each other with regularity. The other Titans are mumbling and filing law suits. Everyone -- including governmental agencies around the globe -- is watching closely to see who is doing what and to whom.

This is the 1st in the series of the 10 Kurlan Sales Management Functions. #1 - COACHING In its simplest form, sales coaching consists of the following two activities: 1. Pre-Call Strategizing - coaching prior to selected calls to make sure that the salesperson has a good reason for having the upcoming call, a desired outcome, a game plan or strategy, and the appropriate questions/dialog to achieve the desired outcome. 2. Post-Call Debriefing - coaching after selected calls to discover the true outcome of the call, why the salesperson got that outcome, and what they could have done differently or more effectively...

Insights from being in business for 13 years
Happy New Year to you all. I wonder if you took time off over the Christmas-New Year break and, like me, had a bit of trouble letting go initially and then found yourself easing into enjoying a little time off from work commitments. It’s when I slow down that I find some of my thoughts drifting to why I got into business for myself in the first place. There is a good reason for this. You see on the 9 January 2008 my business will be 13 years old.

Take Note
I would like to focus on something, that at first glance, may appear rather trivial. In fact it might seem so inane that you are wondering why I am even writing about it. It’s ‘note taking’. I learnt a very salient, if not embarrassing, lesson in my early 20’s. When in my first sales consulting role I turned up to a sales meeting with a prospective client with no obvious note taking materials. Up until that time I had never been told to take notes by my managers. I hadn’t thought about talking notes myself. I relied on my memory.

In the world of sales there has always been the following advice for customers and for good reason: Buyer beware Read the fine print If it's too good to be true then it is And so on. There's a good reason why over 97 percent of progressive companies and service industry firms that I've consulted, use a form of a "hungry base plus commission" compensation plan for their sales professionals, rather than employing a straight commission pay structure. The reason is simple, straight commission pay plans demotivate many more sales professionals than they motivate. Straight commissions reward a specific type of sales professional--the top three to five percent of the sales professionals in the top 20 percent bracket.

Why is Taking it Easy so Hard?
The real reason why you find it hard to take it easy is because (drum roll, please) you THINK it MUST be HARD. Seriously, that is the ONLY reason life feels hard. When you choose to believe that life has to be hard because that’s just the way it is, then you are deliberately (even if maybe unconsciously) creating the experience of difficulty in your life. In order to take it easy in your life, you simply need to come from a place where you believe it’s possible. Now, I know it isn’t always comfortable to change which is the main reason we get caught up in staying in situations that don’t feel good. However, I promise you that deliberately creating a love that you love is more than worth the initial discomfort.
