Part 1 - After the ball is over
| |
| The ball is very definitely over. A good time was had by all but what a mess to cleanup! This cleanup has been compounded by the errant behaviour of some of the leaders and organizers of the ball: unbounded greed, ethical standards have been eroded, personal values have been overturned, virtues have been diminished to the point of ridicule, morality has been questioned, integrity has been ignored, trust forgotten and the meaning of life seems to have been lost. This cleanup will be a massive task. |

How To Cold Call Effectively: What To Say First
| |
| “When prospecting via phone and the contact picks up, do you ask for their time? Or do you go into your spiel?” This question was asked on Linkedin and below is my public answer: This is a great question and there are many ways to approach this. Assuming this is a pure cold call and they are not expecting your call, the first thing I would recommend doing is put yourself in their shoes. What would you want to hear? How would you want to be treated? Start there and you might find your own answer… |

Abide by the Rules of Engagement

The battle is almost like hand-to-hand combat because it will be won by selling one customer at a time. The game has changed, but the rules of engagement haven’t.

The Power of Social Networking
| |
| You’ve all heard of networking right? Most business women don’t ever use it to its full potential. One of the most common reasons is that it’s just one more thing you have to do in your busy day so it goes into the too hard basket, right!
I know I used to do this. With traditional networking, you stand in a room full of complete strangers pretending to have a good time, all in the hope that you will connect with the right people.
Yes, networking can be a nightmare. It can also be a great thing if you get the right environment for you. Networking is all about building relationships and now-a-days I use both online and offline networking, but I get the greatest benefit from online social networking as I can connect with more people in less time. So what is it and how can it benefit you? |

Ten Tips For Managing Stress of New Beginnings, New Opportunities, New Intentions and New Goals For The New Year
| |
| The new year resets the calendar and it is a good time to view the start of a new year as a time of new beginnings, new opportunities, new intentions, and new goals and to develop a strategic action plan to use each of those new things. Too many times, we focus on the stress and the fear of new beginnings or change. One of my biggest recommendations to you for stress relief is to choose an attitude and mindset that looks at all challenges, issues and problems as OPPORTUNITIES wearing various disguises. Another major method of addressing stress is to take a look at just how busy we are on a daily basis. So, if we agree that stress is something that is almost impossible to avoid, here are ten (10) tips from your strategic thinking business coach on how to manage the stress of change.

Rudeness in the Workplace
| |
| Contemporary business more resembles a paint ball exercise than a human service experience. Marketing ploys are spattered across the media in the hope of snagging our attention. However, we are in a global economy, and our social skills need remedial attention. Social skills have not been transferred to the last two generations as a group like technology has. For example, think about how many Gen X and Y’s know how to set a dining table or how to cut their meat.
News flash: high-level careers have been sabotaged by just such “unnecessary” information.
In the interest of “the bottom line” thinking that dominates American business, we’ve lost the most meaningful tool we have, the human connection.
I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts on observations and episodes you’ve had on the topic. Thank you.

| When things get bad, you've got to get good!
It all became clear last week on the way to get a massage. My boyfriend and I were running late, so there was instant tension. Passing Up Good for Great
| |
| Work/life balance requires surrender of part of one area - whether it's time spent on work or time spent on personal matters - in favor of the other. But we don't generally like giving up anything we want. We want it all, and we want it all now. Maturity requires us to recognize that perhaps we can have it all (though that too is open to question), but we certainly can't have it all at the same time. The single most useful skill for deciding how to arrange this work/life balance is the ability to pass up good for great. Learning that skill requires that we be able to recognize what's good and what's great, to identify appropriate time frames to help with the good/great evaluation, and to guard our decisions zealously.

The Gift of Time
| |
| Time is one of my favorite subjects. Time is actually the most precious resource we have. Everyone starts their week with the same amount of time. Time is not a discriminator nor does it have any favorites. Time is fair and always ready to serve anyone who understands it. How we use the time we are allotted each day will have a definite impact on our outcomes or results. We are stewards of how we invest our time each day. We must treat time as more precious than money. Being good stewards of time will unlock the key to success in our lives and businesses. |

How Good is 99 Percent?
| |
| How many times have you heard the expression: "good enough for government work?" Too often I am sure. Sometimes it may even apply to your business or other activities. Of course, that is not your standard of excellence. Most of the time you strive for better than 90 percent perfection, don't you? What if we strived for 99 percent? Sounds good, doesn't it? No more than one error in a hundred. But how good is that really? |

"Efficiency vs Effectiveness"
| |
| One of the keys to my success is the fact that I am very disciplined, as a solopreneur, when it comes to the way I manage my time and energy. That has changed a bit over the past few weeks – and in a good way, in that my time was not totally my own. We all get caught up in habits and routines in our lives, both personally and professionally, and it is good practice, in my opinion, to regularly review those habits. |
