Online Business? Why Do We Need One?
A few years ago, the economy was roaring. Stock prices were going up, interest rates were staying low, the online business industry was booming and unemployment was down. A year later and those indicators were all going in opposite direction. It is difficult to know if the turmoil is over but we have to have faith. We have to be optimistic that the current situation is a short-term one and we have to believe that long-term prospects of growth and good times are just around the corner. But that doesn't mean that there won't be downturns, along the way. We have to ask ourselves: 'are we ready to take advantage of the good as well as the bad times - are we ready to start an online business?'

Simply put, there are good times when things are going well and it’s easy to make money, and there are bad times, when it’s much more difficult to make money. Prior to 2008 we had a run of good times that exceeded most of our expectations. I have often said that it didn’t take a genius to make money during that run. However, “Profit covers many sins”. That means that many of us got a little complacent. Maybe we didn’t quite run our business following absolute best practice. Maybe some of us overlooked less than the best performance expected from our employees. Maybe we were a little too compassionate regarding employee effectiveness and as a result we haven’t “weeded the garden” to allow our good employees to flourish.
