News (among other sources) carries a story from October 21st about Mubarak Muhammad Abdullahi of the Kano Plains of Nigeria who has built a working helicopter over the last 8 months using scrap aluminum and parts from a Honda Civic, an old Toyota and from the remains of a crashed Boeing 747. |

| We often use the wrong measuring stick as to our worth and achievements. It is the money stick! We get mesmerized by the glitter of celebrities and the Fortune list of the wealthiest people. We compare ourselves with a system that honors entertainment more than education, more than how we care for our families, or how hard we work. We compare our bodies to bodies that we are told are the bodies to have in order to have happiness. We need to stop comparing ourselves with unrealistic goals. What's good for one person is not necessarily good for you or me.

| The first place that we cut corners when we are busy or stressed is our eating and in particular our breakfast. The food you eat forms the very building blocks of your body, but most of us have lost sight of the fact that food is fuel and that the purpose of eating is to provide our bodies with the tools they need for energy, functioning, building and maintenance. We eat for a variety of different reasons, none of which relate to the idea of providing our bodies with quality fuel. We eat unconsciously, we use food to fill emotional voids or to be sociable and we fill our bodies with things that we all know aren’t good for us – in effect, rather than using food as essential fuel, we use it to inflict damage on ourselves. |

We speak of government as if it were our neighbor, pastor, teacher, friend or foe. It is none of these and yet it is all of these. Government, at any level, is simply an organizational structure and is incapable of any action or activity until people are inserted into the equation. Our founding fathers meant it when they said “of the people, by the people and for the people”
So the problem and/or solution lie with us.

| I know the government has specific initiatives to recruit and hire small business contractors for governmental projects but how can I get these jobs? I started my search on this topic at the source, the government. On the SBA website there are tutorials on how to apply for and win government contracts. By taking one of these convenient online courses all of my questions were answered. I want to share some of this information but I would also recommend that anyone interested in acquiring government contracts take this online course themselves. |

Tax Hikes Are Not About Revenue

| It's pretty simple. When the U.S. federal government decreases income taxes, they increase government revenue by creating more business opportunities, more jobs, and more taxpayers. Investment dollars flow into the country. On the other hand, when the government increases taxes, they decrease government revenue. Opportunities and jobs are lost; investment dollars flow away to other, more-business-friendly countries.

| The big news these days is the federal government’s debt ceiling. Every time Washington gets into one of these messes - which it does a lot - people renew the discussion about how government should be run. “If I ran my company the way they run the government…” The outcome is usually bankruptcy or prison. Should government be run like a business? That’s a debate for another article. But, the surprising thing is many business ARE run like the government. There are at least ten limits we could impose on government (and, in some cases, on what I see as quasi-governmental U.S. institutions) that would have a remarkable turn-around impact on our economy - and on our society.
