How Can I Win Government Contracts? Part 1
I know the government has specific initiatives to recruit and hire small business contractors for governmental projects but how can I get these jobs? I started my search on this topic at the source, the government. On the SBA website there are tutorials on how to apply for and win government contracts. By taking one of these convenient online courses all of my questions were answered. I want to share some of this information but I would also recommend that anyone interested in acquiring government contracts take this online course themselves.

Free Money to Pay Your Bills? Not Quite Part 2
In Free Money to Pay Your Bills? Part 1, we discovered how Matthew Lesko (and others) use word play and semantics to get you to buy their books believing you will obtain riches on someone else’s dime. In Part II we will discuss what you really are buying when you purchase one of these grant guides.

SBAs 8a Program Can Help Some Companies Compete
The 8(a) Program (named after the section of the Small Business Act from which it comes) is an SBA program created to help small disadvantaged businesses better compete in the U.S. marketplace and within the arena of government procurement. The SBA provides business development, technical assistance and other services to the small businesses that are accepted into the 8(a) program.

The Effect of Elections on Small Business
Over the years I have closely observed small businesses on the lead-up to an election. There are some very clear business trends that smart small businesses need to know and work within. Elections also provide businesses with a money-can’t-buy education on the latest in marketing trends. Let’s start with the business trends. The most obvious is a business to government slow down – by that I mean in the lead up to an election the incumbent political party goes into caretaker mode and generally will not make any significant decisions or grant major contracts. If your business is one that relies on government contracts – you need to plan for this slow down to kick in at least 6 months before the scheduled election due period.

What are the three biggest challenges suppliers face in their efforts to win government business?
Being well into the 7-Part "Seven Steps to Success: Jump Start Government Contracts Series," with expert author Judy Bradt on the PI Window on Business Show on Blog Talk Radio, the launch of the Public Sector Suppliers Forum on LinkedIn and of course the Essential Connections Blog, we seem to have touched on a hot topic that has been simmering for some time. Specifically, the disconnect between the tremendous opportunities afforded companies through government contracting, and the practical realization of said opportunities for the majority of suppliers.

Writing Tenders -Your Key to Winning Lucrative Government Contracts
Any company that is involved with Government work knows that these contracts are obtained only after fierce competition. The large size and recurring nature of these contracts makes them very attractive to companies that deal in that particular field

Is it legal?
When we think about contracts, the tendency is to think of a multipage document with clauses, headings, and two signatures at the end. However, a contract doesn’t necessarily have to take that format and in our digital age it is becoming increasingly more common for contracts to be formed in a variety of ways – all of which are “legal”.

Can You Afford To Treat PQQs Lightly?
Companies that are planning to enter the lucrative business of working for the Government or big private companies need to know many things about the complicated process of getting these contracts. Most agencies only award these contracts on the basis of tenders and it goes without saying that these tenders are fought for very fiercely by an ever increasing number of competitors.

Bid Training – Why Do You Need It?
Do you apply for a great number of government or private contracts only to get eliminated in the process of tendering? Are there many contracts that you hear of too late to apply for? This is a common fate that befalls many companies, especially small ones that do not have the resources to do the bid process carefully and efficiently enough.

Handling PQQ’s in the Correct Manner
The business world is highly competitive and one area where this is very easily seen is the awarding of contracts on the basis of tenders. As a result, there are many measures in place to weed out companies that do not make the grade. One of these measures is called a Pre Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ). Companies and Government agencies that use the tendering process to award contracts use PQQs to find out whether the companies that are desirous of doing their work are actually capable of doing it.

Customer Supplied Agreements... Two Suggested Changes Before Signing
The holiday season invariably finds my clients pushing aggressively to turn sales into contracts and lock those contracts down by the end of the year. It's understandable… we all want to begin the new year strong, with lots of contracts in the pipeline. The rush to sign at year end, however, can have dire consequences, particularly for those accustomed to using their own standard form of services contract rather than signing a customer's form of agreement.
