“TOP TEN TIPS TO EFFECTIVELY WORK WITH POLICY MAKERS”
| |
| We are sometimes called on to work with policy makers in a variety of organizations we are associated with in our personal, business and volunteer lives. Working with these policy makers can be very rewarding and can be very frustrating. Since 1970 I have been working with policy makers at all levels of government, non-profits, businesses, institutions and other organizations. Organizational "Strange Actractors"
| |
|
We have for the most part looked at organizations in a traditional linear view and constantly put people, teams, departments, divisions and organizations in general into boxes often connected with lines. This is fine when trying to show where individuals reside within the context of organizations; however, it is not how organizations work. |

Government Business Grants in Canada. Are They a Myth?
| |
| Bureaucrats are famous or infamous depending upon your perspective, for lacking knowledge of what goes on outside of their own departments/agencies. Often they are not aware of the programs of another division within their own departments. Many government programs provide funding that is non - repayable but are not called grants. Some government departments finance third party sectoral or community based organizations to administer funding on their behalf. All of thes reasons may lead one to believe there are no grants available. Guess again.

Change starts with you
| |
| “Only Government can fix the mess we are in”, President Obama.
“Government is the problem…”, Nate McCulloch Gwinnett Daily Post
We speak of government as if it were our neighbor, pastor, teacher, friend or foe. It is none of these and yet it is all of these. Government, at any level, is simply an organizational structure and is incapable of any action or activity until people are inserted into the equation. Our founding fathers meant it when they said “of the people, by the people and for the people”
So the problem and/or solution lie with us.

| Employees of private sector organizations have a reason to smile. Government of India will be revising the ceiling on gratuity payable and increase it from 3.5 lakh to 10 lakh rupees. The main behind considering this revision proposal has been to bridge the disparity between private sector and government sector employees. |

If Business Ran Like the Government
| |
| The big news these days is the federal government’s debt ceiling. Every time Washington gets into one of these messes - which it does a lot - people renew the discussion about how government should be run. “If I ran my company the way they run the government…” The outcome is usually bankruptcy or prison. Should government be run like a business? That’s a debate for another article. But, the surprising thing is many business ARE run like the government. Do you understand how to manage cash flow in your business? Does your company cater to special interests, waste money or time or push problems aside instead of addressing the real issue? |

Renewing Limited Government: Term Limits
| |
| In America, the "land of the free," the government has run amok. The Founders, who fought (and in some cases, died) to leave a country wherein citizens were to rule and the government was supposed to be limited, would be shocked at the size of the behemoth that is the modern federal government. And many states have just as bloated a bureaucracy.... |

Renewing Limited Government: Spending Limits
| |
| We have to renew limited government in the United States, or the entire world will enter a new era of darkness the likes of which no one can foresee. And one of the first, if not THE first, is to limit government spending.... |
