Baby Boomers: Work From Home
Have you ever questioned why there are so many Baby Boomers? I mean, what was going on about nine months before we all got born? Even more important, what's happening to us today? Also, have you thought about retiring? Yeah, Right! In today's economy, are you kidding? We're probably in another "great" depression, but government "reports" won't come out in time to help us decide. So let's call whatever's happening an extended recession. Okay? Back to your retirement plans. With government spending totally out of control, and all the corporate failures and downsizing, can you even be sure you'll keep the job you have?

Deflation and the Dollar, Round 2?
The oil inventory numbers came out yesterday and there was an increase of roughly 5 million barrels, 1 million more than the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) estimates. Consequently, the price plunged nearly 6% in its largest drop in nearly 3 months. But is this the whole story?

How should CEOs select business metrics?
Metrics or measurements used for reviewing and planning various aspects of business have a lot of bearing on the results because what is measured and inspected is considered important by people. Metrics can be classified as historical or forward looking. Bias for historical data and analysis needs to be overcome. Customers, employees, and cash flows can provide vital clues to CEOs aiming to establish more forward looking signals and metrics. One can derive actionable points from even historical metrics if root-cause analysis for coming up with pro-active actions is done. Will all this take CEO's attention away from vision, innovation, and inspiring people? No. The above methods provide a springboard for day to day innovation and path breaking ideas. They also support realizing the vision.

The Best of Times...The Worst of Times?
Today is March 12, 2009. I am identifying this day so you can get a perspective of where we are in the world. I don’t know about you but I am getting a little tired of what the media is exposing us to. Every statement seems to start with “during these tough times”, even commercials are getting on board with the negative jargon. Every statistic is peppered with “the worst since”, “highest since”, or “lowest since”. I question the mechanism for such quotes and who really cares? Even the weather has become “severe” weather with it’s corresponding lowest or highest recorded stats. I may regret saying this but I’m ready to hear more about Iraq, that has been pushed to the back page.

Public Spending on Education and Health Care and the MDGs
Government expenditure policy will have a key role in determining whether countries meet the MDGs. In many countries, the government will have a central role in ensuring that its citizens, especially the poor, have access to education and health services by either providing these services itself or financing private sector provision.

Fiscal Policy for a Sustainable Environment
In both developed and developing countries, fiscal policy has an important role to play in assuring sustainable use of natural resources and safeguarding the environment. This applies to both the tax and spending sides of the government’s budget.

$759 Billion Wasted Each Year!
That’s not a statistic on the latest government pork-barrel spending spree; that’s how much American business spends on salaries for which work was expected, but not performed!

China’s Shares May Be the First to Turn Upward!
China has been the "least beaten up" of the countries throughout the global slow down. So this, coupled with a huge amount of government spending there, could push the Shanghai index and the ETF (symbol: CAF) higher.

Can The US Spend Their Way To Economic Stability, And What Will Be The Long Term Bill?
The US Government is trying to avoid recession by replacing consumer spending with government rescue packages. This will be great if it works, but with increased spending that will ultimately lead to increased inflation, this is a gamble that is unlikely to ultimately work and will saddle future generations with massive debt and a weakened social security system.

Government Needs To Change Its Own Health Habits
Obamacare is, at bottom, a wild spending spree. It's a government land-grab. It's a transfer of a sixth of the U.S. economy from the job-creating private sector to the wealth-destroying public sector. In a metaphoric sense, Obamacare (having been rammed down the patient's throat with dubious legislative procedures) is like a cancer on our economy. It's a glut of carcinogenic taxes and spending, the likes of which have made our government fat, slow, and stupid....

Personal Responsibility: Protect Your Wealth
There's a global conspiracy against wealth today. It isn't obvious - no conspiracy is - but the signs are there if you know what to look for. A "jobless recovery"... a collapsing dollar... runaway government spending... bloated "zombie" entitlement programs that've long eclipsed the policies they were originally intended to implement and now exist with the sole purpose of furthering their own existence... these are all indicators of the worldwide march away from economic freedom and toward collectivist state control. If and when the conversion to global socialism is completed (and the current liberal U.S. government is sprinting as fast as they can toward that day), wealth will be sin, and it will be too late to protect what you've worked for....

If Business Ran Like the Government
The big news these days is the federal government’s debt ceiling. Every time Washington gets into one of these messes - which it does a lot - people renew the discussion about how government should be run. “If I ran my company the way they run the government…” The outcome is usually bankruptcy or prison. Should government be run like a business? That’s a debate for another article. But, the surprising thing is many business ARE run like the government. Do you understand how to manage cash flow in your business? Does your company cater to special interests, waste money or time or push problems aside instead of addressing the real issue?

Renewing Limited Government: Spending Limits
We have to renew limited government in the United States, or the entire world will enter a new era of darkness the likes of which no one can foresee. There are at least ten limits we could impose on government (and, in some cases, on what I see as quasi-governmental U.S. institutions) that would have a remarkable turn-around impact on our economy - and on our society. And one of the first, if not THE first, is to limit government spending....
