Visionarys Disease and the CEO
We all know the value of vision. The Greek philosophers spoke about it. Former President George Bush recommended attention to "the vision thing." What happens when an organization's problem isn't a lack of vision but too much? What happens when the CEO's vision changes monthly, weekly, or even daily-driving his organization crazy? Welcome to Visionary's Disease. If you are consulting to someone who suffers from it, you are probably very frustrated.

Hostages, Revolutions and Critics
Most uprisings and revolutions find their beginnings in injustice. The French and American revolutions are two examples, and we can trace this back to Greek history. Democracy started there. The people had a justified outrage and managed to change things.

Dealing with Email Overload – Tips and Best Practices
Is your email in-box forever full? Distracted every time your email dings? Do emails drive your days, not your priorities? In Greek mythology, Sisyphus, an evil king, was condemned to forever rolling a big rock to the top of a mountain, and then, the rock always rolled back down again. Are you are suffering the same "Hell" every day while trying to keep on top of your email tsunami? Here are, but a few tips for your consideration.

Honor Without Envy
Aeschylus, one of the three great Greek writers of tragedy said, "It is the character of very few men to honor without envy a friend who has prospered." Employees that know how to follow and support their managers, make good leaders. Without followers, contributors, supporters, and those willing to help when not receiving notoriety there are no leaders.

What's under your sales-bonnet ( Final)
Graham, cut-in abruptly, "OK, ok, let's let sleeping dogs lie, Johno's gone, and good luck to him, we will also see him at the pub on Friday, he's not going too far. He's a good mate, just tired and over-it and that's fair enough, it hasn't exactly been a party around here for a while. Let's move on to the present." I was impressed with Graham, he was a big man, and I felt his big heart, and from what I could tell he was the leader although the Greek wore the title of Managing Director.

Mentoring - It’s All Greek to Me!
Did you know the first mentor was Greek? It’s one of those funny things where a guy was a mentor and, by coincidence, his name was Mentor. King Odysseus (he was Greek too) asked his friend (named Mentor) to watch over his son while he went away to fight a war. Old Mentor was a wise, sober, and loyal fellow and did a great job influencing the young man for the good.

The French Open and Customer Service Training
Did you know that the word discussion comes from the Latin root “dis,” which means “apart,” and “quatere,” which means “to shake,” so the word discussion literally means: “to shake apart.” This, of course, is what we do to each other when we are having heated discussions! The word dialog, on the other hand, comes from the Greek root “dia,” which means “across,” and “legein,” which means to “speak” – literally “to speak across” (i.e. – to engage someone in a conversation by reaching across to them).

Aspirin
Aspirin, in some form, has been used as a treatment for over 2,500 years. The famed Greek physician, Hippocrates in the 5th century B.C. used an extract from the bark of the willow tree to treat fever. The chemical involved, salacin, is a natural product that is converted into salicylic acid in the body. At the end of the 19th century the German company, Bayer, began marketing a modified manufactured form, acetylsalicylic acid (otherwise known as aspirin), devised by chemist Felix Hoffman. The product turned out to be one of the most successful drugs in the history of the world.

Blazing Our Own Improvement Path
A timeless principle of inside out leadership is continuous personal growth. When U.S. Supreme Court associate justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., was hospitalized at the age of 92, President Roosevelt went to visit him. He found Holmes reading a Greek Primer. "Why are you reading that?" the president asked. The great jurist replied, "Why, Mr. President, to improve my mind."
