Cheeky Rebelliousness
Walter Isaacson, on Albert Einstein, from his new book, Einstein: His Life and Universe: "His slow development was combined with a cheeky rebelliousness toward authority, which led one schoolmaster to send him packing and another to declare that he would never amount to much."

Being Well Informed
I remember hearing someone say “I am not an intellectual, but I’m well informed” when they were talking about their interests, and I thought that statement was well put. People are surprised when they discover the variety of subjects I am interested in, but that comes with paying attention to newspapers, magazines, television coverage and the Internet. If you stop to consider how much information is given out on a daily basis, there’s very little reason not to be well informed.

WHEN LIFE IS HARD
In today’s rapidly changing world, nothing changes quite so rapidly as people. We all have desires, dreams, fears and emotional needs that drive us in our quest to create more of the life we want, trying to attain our own vision of success and that ellusive, tantalising taste of permanent happiness and personal fulfillment.

Get This Book
I scan a lot of books to find out if anything in them might be useful to you. Most of them are library books, and after scanning, the measure of how useful a book will be to you is the number of bookmarks I've placed in it.

The More You Learn the More You Realize What You Dont Know
Sometimes we are so zealous to become successful that we forget about what is significant. The background for success should include some intrinsic values as well as monetary values. We should be aware of our culture and other cultures, our history and their history, and not live in what has been termed "a cultural vacuum." Someone once said that not knowing history was like being a leaf that didn't know it was part of a tree. That's an interesting visual and it applies to many people. We are individually responsible for our education, and that means whether you're in school or not.

How To Write Better AdCopy
Right now, you’re probably thinking, “Now he’s gonna tell us to read all the books we can find on copywriting.” Wrong, paperback-breathe! -- The first thing I’m gonna tell you is -- after you’ve read all those copywriting books for general knowledge; like learning english composition, grammar and syntax -- throw away those books and ...

It’s All About PR
You learn that, in the book world, PR is everything. When you walk into a bookstore, you are walking into a treasure house of 140,000 books. Online at amazon.com, there are 2.5 million books. Somewhere in your mind, dimly, you knew that, but nothing drives it home so much as walking into a bookstore and seeing rack upon rack of beautiful books and then you go find your section and see all the racks of beautiful self-help books and then...

Presidential List
I read an article recently that made a lot of sense to me. Doris Kearns Goodwin is a Pulitzer Prize winner for her books on history, and she made a list of ten points that are important for a President to consider and to emulate if they hoped to be great. She has written books about Abraham Lincoln and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and she believes leadership strengths should be considered carefully before voting. Here are some of the attributes that she feels make for a great leader--and I agree!

Required Reading for Success
I have often heard it said by one of the great leaders in the field of personal development, my friend Charlie "Tremendous" Jones, that five years from now you will be the same person that you are today with the exception of the people you meet and the books you read. I find that by reading books, we have the ability to meet the greatest minds in recorded history. They are simply waiting to give us the secrets of a successful life that have transcended the decades and centuries.

Writing Your Own Obituary
Those of you who are consistent readers of this regular offering, realize that I rarely recommend specific books. Instead, I encourage people to read those books that will help them in the pursuit of their own passion. However, recently I have completed both of Tom Brokaw's books dealing with the Depression and World War II era-The Greatest Generation and The Greatest Generation Speaks.

Leadership Exposed: Things You Thought You Knew About Leadership
Much has been written about leadership: rules, pointers, styles, and biographies of inspiring leaders throughout world history. But there are certain leadership ideas that we ourselves fail to recognize and realize in the course of reading books. Here is a short list of things you thought you knew about leadership.
