Nice vs. Honest - A Woman's Struggle
Why is it that so many women have a hard time being "honest"? Honest in the sense that when a colleague or peer asks for advice on a task that they've done, an article they've written, or a new project they've created.... women will tend to be "nice" as opposed to honest. Instead of giving them an honest response and critique, women many times will just say, "It's wonderful", "It's perfect', or "I think you did a great job", when in reality they may think it needs a lot of improvement.

You Get More Flies with Sugar
Let's be serious. If you're having problems, anyone asking you about them already knows what's up. So cowboy-up and face the music. Be open and honest. You don't have to share the dirty laundry and all the details. But you can be honest, open and paint a picture that is true. People respect other people that open the kimono and tell the truth. And guess what, customers are people!

Leadership Starts With You!
Everything that is happening in a business is a reflection of the leader. Most leaders and observers will say that the problem is with someone else or with some department -- it is outside of them. However, if the leader looks closely at their own behavior, they will see the cause of the problem. Fix that and it will fix in other areas. The easy and pointless way is to sit and complain about events, people and things. Think about what you want to see in your employees and then be that first. If you desire your employees to be honest, reliable, committed and responsible; then look at yourself and see what you are doing. Look for where you can improve and watch what happens. Start with the belief that you are an excellent person, a great leader that deserves success. Then do these 4 suggested exercises each day to create success.

Creating Intelligent Action Takers
You need "Risk Takers." You need "Mavericks." Identify every employee in that category and empower him or her to go out and get the job done. So what if they bend the rules sometimes. As long as they don't break the law, violate corporate core values or embarrass the company, "Turn Them Loose." You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. The employees will see this as a demonstration of trust and empowerment. Word will travel fast. Promote that concept. Send a monthly memo to everyone praising individuality that result in improvements. Title your memo, "OFF the CUFF" for it's informal straight talking honest feedback from the top. Reward and recognize the risk takers. Commend the change agents. Then align both management and the employees behind the new vision.
