Buiding the Right Culture -- The Key to Retention

Hiring is not Easy ---- Interviewing Techniques to Improve Your Success
Hiring the right individual, with the right skill set, that has the right attitude and the right personality to fit in can be one of the most challenging endeavors any manager will ever face. 8 Reasons You Are Not Getting a Job Offer
Are you really too old, too young, overqualified or lacking the right education? Is the deck really stacked against you? Not likely!! Chances are you only need to improve the way you present yourself. Recently, a lady approached me after one of our seminar presentations on Career Management. She had been through 63 job interviews and wanted me to look at her resume to see what was preventing her from getting job offers. Hearing that she had 63 interviews let me know I did not need to look at her resume at all; it was doing an excellent job, getting interviews is the only purpose of a resume. So her problem was not in the resume, but something in her personal presentation.

HR Departments Need Business Acumen Too
The problem with a lot of HR departments is that companies relegate them too far to a “back office” mentality. Leaders and entire organizations have discovered that success in the workplace has significantly less to do with intelligence or core job competencies and more to do with emotional and behavioral intelligence. "Profit covers many sins". That means that many of us may have become a little complacent and tend to procrastinate when it comes to problem employees... Maybe we didn't quite run our business following absolute best practice. Maybe some of us overlooked less than the best performance expected from our employees. Maybe we were a little too compassionate regarding employee effectiveness and as a result we haven't "weeded the garden" to allow our good employees to flourish. Instead, we just procrastinated on making these kinds of decisions. If your company is one that got caught in that viscous web of easy success and thought that prosperity in the market wouldn't end and you didn't quite pay attention to basic best practice business acumen, you may have fallen prey to the "Procrastinating Concept of Profit Covers Many Sins".

At a time when the nation’s economy is softening, and perhaps worse, many entrepreneurs are considering layoffs as a way to cut costs.
