Money as a Social Barrier
Check out this study by Prof. Kathleen Vohs of the University of Minnesota (Go Gophers!). She tested the hypothesis that thinking about money can create social barriers. Here is a description of what she did:

Wrong. 30 Times Over.
While on holiday in New Zealand ... I got to thinking. As time goes by, "one" (me) tends to complexify one's approach to almost everything. The innocence (and clarity) of "days gone by" is blurred. I know that I am "guilty as charged." (By me.) And I think most of the other "gurus" (horrid term, but it's become part of the biz language) have also gotten away from reality. Hence, I began taking notes for a book-like "thing" that is not, in fact, a book. I titled it:

Is Canada really rich in natural resources?: Calculating the effects of Foreign Ownership
In Toronto, CBC business reporter Jeannie Lee said there is a great deal at stake for Canada — and especially for southern Ontario, where Canada's steel industry is concentrated and where the global slump has already gutted the auto industry. Canadian steel plants produced almost 16 million tonnes of steel in 2007, employing about 32,000 people and, by one estimate, supporting 140,000 indirect jobs, she said. from "Buy American" rule in U.S. stimulus bill could cost Canada jobs, CBC News (January 29th, 2009)

Business Leadership 3.0
A few years ago I was discussing business leadership with an experienced business consultant and psychologist. He suggested that the next evolution of business leader would come from an HR background.

Strategic Selling
All of us preach the basics of selling and encourage all sales people to go “Back to the Basics” of building value in yourself and your product. That’s a given particularly in today’s competitive environment. Much time and effort is invested in training your sales force on product knowledge, features, benefits, and closing tools. Little time is invested in training on the “Strategy of Selling”. This is what I am referring to.

Aligning minds and what that means
If we are to align staff actions with goals and strategies then it is essential that we understand how to align minds.

STAYING TOP OF MIND WITHOUT BEING A PAIN IN THE NECK
By John Doerr “And if you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with, love the one you're with, love the one you're with, love the one you're with.…” - Stephen Stills Why does it seem that our clients (and prospects) too often take the advice of seventies rock stars when selecting their professional services providers? Perhaps the following story will shed some light.

Google Came From Thin Air? The History of Google
The date was September 7, 1998. The event, two Stanford University students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co-founded Google, a company they started as part of a research project in January 1996. The company was first incorporated as a privately held company but become public August 4, 2004 raising 1.6 billion dollars. The history of google had just begun

The Best SEO Strategy (Website Authority)
Sometimes the best SEO Strategy is to do nothing at all (after you have set the stage for website authority to augment future growth). With so many facets of search engine optimization, battles in the SERPs (search engine result pages) are won every day across millions of competing phrases by careful adherence to relevance, popularity, consistency and engagement.

Two Secrets to Creating Abundance NOW!
The first secret to creating abundance is learning what abundance isn’t. Abundance is not happiness. Abundance is not determined by our bank account, the square footage of our home, or the make of our car. If it were, then we would see wealthier people behave as though they are happier and the middle class demonstrating signs of misery. Yet hundreds of experiments show unequivocally that, once basic needs for comfort have been met at a modest, middle class level, the correlation between wealth and happiness disappears. Poof! Chasing after money in the hope that it will buy us more happiness, intimacy, or fulfillment is a waste of energy based on an invalid hypothesis.

I learned a Life Lesson from My Car
As long as something is still working, at least barely, we don’t put the time or energy there at all. We live with mediocrity rather than shooting for greatness. We limp along rather than soaring. We put time and energy into a band aid but nothing more. And if we are lucky, a smaller issue will pop up to give us a wake up call before catastrophe strikes. So, what in your life needs more attention? Where do you need a wake up call?

Can Technical Service Providers Add Significant Value?
The second major hypothesis behind MicroStart is that technical assistance from an experienced microfinance organization or consulting firm can help build the capacity of small, young MFIs.

Does It Make Sense for UNDP to Help Launch Small and New Organizations?
The most fundamental question that this evaluation addresses is the validity of UNDP's decision to build a program focused on supporting small MFIs.

Do you feel empowered and satisfied at work?
