Managing Emotions Under Pressure
I got the following note the other day from a friend: After reading your latest post on Board Room Rules, I started thinking about the pressures that entrepreneurs experience starting, growing and managing start-up companies (whether it's their first company or their fifth.) So I wonder if you as an investor/board member/partner/cheerleader have ever had to counsel your entrepreneurs on this topic and if so what advice did you dispense?

How to Get a Call Back From Your Cold Calls
What’s the most common reason prospects stop communicating with you? They think your going to pressure them. They’re afraid that, even if it’s subtle, we’ll apply pressure to close the sale. So how do we reassure them we aren’t going to pressure them? By staying focused on the truth of the situation rather than on getting the sale. And by using language that clearly reflects this.

Why this Common Sales Mistake is Costing You More Sales than You Realize
The exact language you’re taught to use puts pressure on your prospect. This pressure increases your prospect’s anxiety, and reduces their ability to make a decision.

Work Life Balance: The Key To A Sustainable Business and A Sustainable Life
During these times of unprecedented economic turmoil the pressure on businesses to survive is immense. The real question to ask is how sustainable is your business? Or another way of saying it is, "Does your business/work environment have a healthy work life balance?" A healthy work life balance is a lifestyle where your habits and actions result in the sustainable growth and development of your health, wealth, business/career, family relationships, social relationships and fulfilment and enjoyment of your life. When your habits and actions at work or at home do not have a work life balance then something in your life will give and will break down.

The Power of Prioritising
As we reflect back on 2009, it was a year of change and uncertainty. Many organisations could be compared to a sporting team under pressure. When the market is going their way then everything is working and confidence is high. However when the pressure is on the weaknesses become very apparent and the cracks starts to appear.

The Dark Side
How well can we manage ourselves, our teams and businesses in a crisis or tough times? Are our actions and behaviours putting us, our people and our businesses at risk? As leaders and managers we are on show and our actions often speak louder than our words. In challenging times this is even more evident. Under pressure cracks may appear and our leadership is put to the test. How do we cope under pressure? What happens to us when we crack? When placed under high levels of pressure, most people will rely on coping mechanisms or their strengths that help them manage in day to day activities, but due to the pressure they can actually become counterproductive tendencies. We refer to these as “risk factors” and they can emerge as our dark side.

The difference between selling with 'desperation' and 'inspiration'?
Being desperate is not pleasant and it's an exhausting place to be in all the time. To achieve and sustain long term sales success you need to sell with inspiration! If you can't get up every morning motivated by 'what' and 'how' you sell; you're in real trouble because no one else is going to do it for you. One of the biggest tests for any salesperson is how they perform under immense pressure - yet if you're resilient and made of the right stuff you may even thrive in it. Many salespeople crack under pressure. They have a couple of poor months and then get desperate. They start cutting corners and looking for quick-wins. This is the beginning of the end. The quick wins seldom come, particularly when you're desperate.

Why Developing Mental Toughness Will Bring Great Results
You will achieve great results through developing mental toughness. So what is mental toughness? It is the desire of taking control of your emotions in performance situations. Some people claim that they work well under pressure. My mentors often argue that the statement is a myth, and pressure can actually hurt you. With added pressure, the chances are high that you will start having negative self-talk, and then lose belief in your ability to complete a task or project.

Effective Time Management Strategies
Effective time management is a skill or maybe an art. And from experience I know that it takes discipline, effort and commitment to make it work for you. It helps to know yourself. Are you a person that thrives under pressure or does a lot of pressure paralyze you?

Growing Under Pressure: Where Leaders Are Born
It's been said that pressure reveals character. You can tell more about someone by the way that they respond to pressure than almost anything else. Some people focus and maintain their integrity while under pressure... others collapse. This is what makes the difference between leaders and followers.
