Today’s Women at Work have Unique Opportunities A new call to action for women and employers
| |
| Here’s a news flash: Women are poised to surpass men on the nation’s payrolls for the first time in American history. According to a recent report by the New York Times, four out of five jobs lost in the current U.S. recession belong to men—a consequence of the surge in layoffs within distressed, male-dominated industries, such as manufacturing and construction. This emerging workplace trend may ultimately be a momentous boon to women—shifting their power and influence, both at home and on the job. It also represents a new call to action for women—and employers. |

Double Your Achievements By Lightening the Loa
| |
| Like a light shining through the darkness shed by so many negative reports of how so few people consider anyone other than themselves, and how a sense of community is lacking, I know from experience that that spirit is not lacking and if we give it a chance by sharing and collaborating, whether professionally or personally, it can bring us so many rewards.

16.0 Closing comments: Support for Growth-oriented Women Entrepreneurs in Tanzania, 2005
| |
| In recent years, Tanzania has embarked upon the economic recovery process and is
continuing to build upon and address the needs of MSMEs. Key informants from the
MIT-SME Section acknowledged the current and future potential of women
entrepreneurs and, although seriously under-resourced for the tasks ahead, the SME
Section is enthusiastic and committed to working with the international donor
community to support this target group. Coordination of all support efforts is crucial. A
mechanism for achieving this is recommended – either an officer fully dedicated to the
development of women’s enterprise or the establishment of a more formal Office for
Women’s Enterprise Development (OWED). |

Women and Men are Different: Financially Speaking
| |
| Men and women think differently, especially about money. Although both men and women are concerned about security; many women think about what money represents, where men tend to think of what money can buy. There is no right or wrong, we just think differently. Money has no gender, anyone, man or woman can earn, spend, save or invest it. The results of a survey of 1,000 spouses conducted for Money Magazine, found men and women had dramatically different ideas about who does what with the family finances and what is important to their partners. 27% of men believe their wives think having the right investments is very important. Yet nearly half of the women surveyed say it is important. 45% of men say that having cash for emergencies is very important to their spouse, when in reality 67% of women believe it's crucial.

I'm Every Woman!
| |
| This week, we celebrated International Woman's Day - not something I take lightly. I honor, respect and celebrate the women who have 'walked before me' - without whom I would not be living this life of freedom and opportunity. This past weekend, I spoke at the Amazing Woman's Day event in Toronto - the Canadian launch of this international initiative. Wow! Words cannot describe the experience. There's something very powerful when a room is filled with women, from all walks of life, each with their own story - mothers - sisters - entrepreneurs - career women - retirees - stepmoms - daughters - entertainers - authors - visionaries and so on. |
